John 3:16 beautifully captures the entire Gospel in one verse. It tells the story of a God whose love was so great that He came down to rescue us. We could not save ourselves, but God, moved by immeasurable love, gave His Son so we could have eternal life. Jesus did not come reluctantly—He willingly laid down His life to defeat sin and death and to set us free. Christmas reminds us that love didn’t stay distant; love came down.

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
— John 3:16

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Dear Father,
Thank You for Your great love—a love so powerful that it came down from Heaven to save us. Thank You for giving Jesus freely and willingly so that we might have life, forgiveness, and hope. Help me never to forget that my salvation is not earned but received through Your grace. Tonight, I rest in the truth that I am deeply loved, fully redeemed, and eternally secure because of what You have done for me through Your Son. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

  1. How does remembering God’s sacrificial love in John 3:16 reshape the way you see your worth and identity?

  2. Do you fully believe that Jesus willingly laid down His life for you? What does that reveal about God’s heart toward you?

  3. How can you respond to God’s love this season—through gratitude, trust, or sharing His love with others?

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Life Audio. Thank you for tuning in to your nightly prayer,
a podcast designed to help you rest and connect with
your Father in heaven as the day ends. God is
ready to meet you in this moment of peace. As
you settle into sleep. After this short word from our sponsor,

(00:24):
we'll encounter tonight's devotional Love that Came Down, written by
Lynette Kittle and read by your host, Brooke McLoughlin. Tonight's

(00:44):
scripture for God so loved the world that he gave
his one and only son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life John three p. Sixteen.
Something to ponder growing up sixteen was my absolute favorite
Bible verse. It's the Bible verse learned as a child

(01:05):
that has stuck with me through the years from my
earliest scripture memorization. Even as a child. It spoke to
my heart and resonated with me. I seemed to grasp
and understand in my childlike faith, how God loved the
world so much that he sent his only begotten and
beloved son, Jesus, down to earth so that we could

(01:27):
live eternally. John three point sixteen says it all. The
entire gospel message and good news presented in a nutshell,
gloriously told, found and summed up in this one verse.
Who wouldn't love it? A verse that tells God's beautiful,
perfect story that leads us to himself. Without God giving

(01:49):
us Jesus, we would be lost forever, unable to save
ourselves or anyone around us. But God's immeasurable love led
him to move heaven and earth for us, to give
us salvation through his precious son. As Jesus describes and
says it in John fifteen thirteen, greater love has no

(02:10):
one than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.
Throughout history, we read, hear, and watch stories of men
and women who fought to protect their lands and the
lives of their people, losing their own lives at the
hands of the enemy so that their families and countrymen

(02:31):
and women might be free to live. Jesus's story of
coming is the greatest of all of how he came
down to earth in order to free all mankind from
sin and death. In God giving us Jesus, he gave
us a savior who would defeat the enemy in a
spiritual battle for our souls, setting us free and giving

(02:53):
us eternal, everlasting life with him, unlike losing his life
at the hands of the inner me. In John ten eighteen,
Jesus tells us that no one took his life because
he willingly laid down his life so that we might
have life. No one takes it from me, he said,

(03:13):
but I lay it down of my own accord. I
have the authority to lay it down, and the authority
to take it up again. This command I received from
my Father your nightly prayer, Dear Father, our hearts are
moved by your great love, a love that came down
from heaven to save us and give us eternal life.

(03:36):
A love so moved by the brokenness of our fallen
lives that you did what seemed impossible to redeem us
from sin and make us brand new, freeing us from
sin and the penalty of it. Thank you for giving
us eternal life, not because we earned it or deserve it,
but because you are a God who loves and gives.

(03:59):
Remind us tonight, Lord, and every night, of your love
that moved heaven and earth to save us in Jesus' name. Amen.
Three things to meditate upon. Number one, think of the
first time you read or heard John three, p. Sixteen
Where were you Did you understand what it was saying?

(04:21):
Did it touch your heart and move your emotions? Two?
In reading about God's love, how does it make you feel?
Do you believe that He is a loving and giving God?
Does this verse convince you? And number three? When you
think of God, how do you describe him? What are
the first three words that come to your mind? Has

(04:44):
God's love touched your life? Have you received the life
he gives? Thank you for listening to your Nightly Prayer,
