"בתחילת המלחמה נתנו ללוחמים מה שהיה במלאי החירום - מנות קרב מהדרין, מנות קרב טבעוניות ומנות קרב ללא גלוטן", מספרת ורד. "כשראינו שהמלחמה מתארכת, יצאנו לרכוש פרטים חדשים כדי לגוון את המענה לאורך הלחימה. גם בייבוא מחו"ל וגם פיתוחים שהיו לנו - כמו מנות לחימה מבוססות על מזון מיובש בהקפאה, שהוא קל משקל עם נפח מצומצם, ועדיין מאפשר לקבל את הערכים התזונתיים גם כשמשחזרים את המזון.
אנחנו יורדים לשטח ובודקים מה הצרכים ומה הרצונות של הלוחמים. תזונאים נתנו הוראה לתזונה מבצעית: כל שעה - מים. כל שעתיים - אנרגיה, כל 6 שעות - חלבון. בתחילת המלחמה הוצאנו ערכה בשם 'בוסט' שהכילה חטיפי אנרגיה, חטיפי חלבון ומסטיק ללא סוכר.
במנות קרב אנחנו מחפשים כל הזמן איך לגוון: 'לחם אבירים' זה סוג של קופסת הפתעות עם תכולה משתנה. בחורף בשנה שעברה שמנו מרקים חמים, ארוחות אינסטנט, קפה, תה, עוגות, פירות יבשים, וקצת נשנושים בריאים כמו גרנולה. יש מוצר שפותח בישראל של בשר מיובש ושווארמה טבעונית, פסטה ואורז שהשיחזור שלהם הוא ע"י הוספה של מים בשקית חימום.
סיר בר - ערכות בישול לחיילים לבשל אוכל חם בשטח בעזרת הפק"ל קפה. סיר חד פעמי עם תבשילים או פסטות, אורז וקטניות בוואקום, רטבים לפסטה, ועוד.
