לפי הדיווחים הבוקר - במלחמה 834 אזרחים חללים ו - 348 חללי צה"ל. מאחורי כל מספר יש שם, משפחה אבלה, הורים, ולעיתים גם בני זוג וילדים - אלמנים ואלמנות ויתומים.
אורלי זוהר התאלמנה מבעלה רב-סרן (במיל') אמיר זוהר שנפל בקרב לפני 23 שנה. השאר אחריו שלושה ילדים - אסף, אלון ותמר. אורלי משתפת: "מרגע הדפיקה בדלת והבשורה על מות - החיים משתנים. אמיר היה בעל למופת, אבל לצערי למעט מאוד שנים. וזה מלווה בכל תחנות החיים. במלחמה הנוכחית יש לא מעט יתומים משני ההורים".
