סיפורה של אסתר ארדיטי - 'המלאך בלבן', האישה הראשונה שזוכה בצבא בעיטור במופת על פעולה בהצלת חיים ממטוס מתרסק, וגם זוכת 'אות הנשיא למתנדב' בשנת 1975 על התנדבות רבת שנים. בגיל 16 אסתר עולה לארץ יחד עם אחיה, מתיישבת בקיבוץ עלומים ומתגייסת לצבא בתפקיד חובשת. בשנת 1954 אסתר שומעת בקשר תוך כדי בפעילות מבצעית על מטוס שהתרסק, ובחירוף נפש הולכת להציל את הפצועים. שלמה הרצמן נווט המטוס ויעקב סלמון שהיה הטייס נפצעו, היא גוררת אותם ומצילה את חייהם רגע לפני שהמטוס מתפוצץ, ואף תורמת מנת דם כדי להציל אותם. שלמה הרצמן נפטר, ויעקב שורד את הפציעה. אימו שהייתה אסירת תודה אימצה את אסתר ושימשה לה כמשפחה לכל דבר.
אסתר היתה נהגת האמבולנס הראשונה וגם האישה הראשונה בצבא שזוכה לעיטור המופת. היא מתנדבת ומטפלת במסירות בחיילים פצועים במלחמת ששת הימים בכל רחבי ירושלים. עוברת ממוצב למוצב, ומטפלת במאות חיילים. בשנת 1973 במלחמת יוכ"פ אסתר נוסעת לתעלת סואץ ומטפלת גם שם במסירות בחיילים פצועים. בשנת 2003 אסתר נוסעת לעיר הולדתה לבורנו שבאיטליה לביקור מולדת, ושם נפטרה מדום לב בגיל 67 . מדמותה המרשימה אפשר ללמוד רצון לתרום ולפעול בנחישות ומסירות, הקרבה למען הכלל, אומץ לב ולקיחת אחריות אישית.
