מאז החלה המלחמה בין ישראל לאיראן חוזרת ועולה מלחמה אחרת, שאמורה לשמש כתמרור אזהרה - מלחמת איראן עיראק.
המלחמה הארוכה ביותר שהתרחשה במאה העשרים היתה אכזרית ומדממת במיוחד. היו בה ילדים שנשלחו להתפוצץ בשדות מוקשים כדי לחסוך בחיי חיילים, שימוש בנשק כימי והרג אזרחים חסר הבחנה.
