מייק הרצוג, לשעבר שגריר ישראל בארצות הברית, סיפר היום (חמישי) אצל אפי טריגר בגלצ: "השתמשנו בקטר כמתווכת להוציא חטופים אבל היא לא אוהדת ישראל. השאלה מה הפעולה בקטר תעשה ליחסי ישראל וקטר פחות חשובה בעיניי. השאלות המרכזיות הן מה הפעולה תעשה ליעדי המלחמה של ישראל, שהם שחרור החטופים ומיטוט חמאס". הוא הוסיף: "אני לא בטוח שקטר תפסיק לגמרי לשמש במתווכת, אני מניח שבתקופה הקרובה היא תקפיא את פעילותה, זה לא אומר שזה יקרה לאורך זמן. צריך להבין שבתקופה הקרובה כנראה כל העיסוק בעסקה לשחרור חטופים יידחה ולזמן כידוע יש משמעות כבדה בכל הקשור לחטופים".
