אייל צורף, חבר כיתת הכוננות של קיבוץ מגן, מספר היום (חמישי) אצל אריק וייס ועמיחי אתאלי על הקרב ב-7.10: "בעצם נאלצנו להתמודד עם ההתקפה הזו בלי שאף כוח הגיע לעזרתנו, וזה תחושה מאוד קשה. סופרים את הדקות והשעות ואתה מתמודד מול עשרות מחבלים והצבא לא מגיע - זה לא יאמן. היה לנו מזל שגילינו את המוני המחבלים בגדרות ולא בתוך הקיבוץ. אנשים, חלקם עם ילדים קטנים, לא כולם בכיתת הכוננות, לקחו נשק וטסו להגן על הקהילה, זה מטורף. ליבנו עם האנשים שהסיטואציה היתה שונה לגמרי אצלם. זה עצוב, אבל לא נשכח שאצלנו הסיפור הוא עוצמתי - נהרגו שני אנשים ושניים נפצעו, אז זה לא שלא קרה כלום. הקהילה ניצלה אבל האירוע שונה.
