في عام ٢٠١٤، تم تسجيل منطقة جدة التاريخية غرب المملكة العربية السعودية، أو جدة البلد، ضمن قائمة اليونسكو لمواقع التراث العالمي. وهذا يأتي نتيجة لتزايد الاهتمام الحكومي والأهلي بإعادة ترميم وتأهيل هذه المنطقة التي أصبحت نتيجة النموّ العمراني المتسارع حيّا يقطنه الفقراء والعمالة الوافدة متدنية الأجور. ومنذ تاريخ تسجيلها في اليونسكو، تزايدت وتيرة الاهتمام الرسمي والأهلي لتحويل منطقة جدة التاريخية إلى منطقة تراثية وسياحية لجذب السيّاح.
إن علاقة جدة مع الآخر المختلف والمتنوع ليست وليدة الفترة الحديثة، بل لها تاريخ طويل يعود لعدة قرون.
