20世紀に入り日本が一層の近代化を推進する一方、優性保護(すなわち劣性排除)の名の下にハンセン病に対する偏見を国民に植え付け、壮絶な差別を生んだ負の歴史を検証し、その過酷な実態を「証言」として記録する特別番組
東京都に在する国立ハンセン病療養所「多磨全生園」には、現在およそ90人のハンセン病回復者が入所しています。1909年の開設から115年。1世紀以上の月日が流れました。かつて園の全周をはりめぐらしていた柊の生垣は、今も一部で確認することができます。これら柊の生垣は、かつては入所者の脱走を許さない為の鉄条網であり鉄格子でした。
番組では、この「多磨全生園」を長野智子が訪れインタビューし、3人のハンセン病回復者を取材します。3人の肉声と関係者への取材から、“生きること”“生きていること”を消し去られていたかもしれない彼らのこれまでの人生を辿ります。
