نفى وزير الدفاع ريتشارد مارلز وجود أي مؤشرات على انسحاب الولايات المتحدة من اتفاقية "أوكوس" الأمنية التي تجمعها بأستراليا والمملكة المتحدة. ويأتي ذلك في ظل مراجعة البنتاغون، وزارة الدفاع الأميركية، للاتفاقية الموقعة في عهد الرئيس السابق جو بايدن، وذلك للتأكد من توافقها مع أولويات "أمريكا أولاً" التي وضعتها إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترامب. مارلز أعرب، في حديث لهيئة الإذاعة الأسترالية، عن تفاؤله بمواصلة تنفيذ الاتفاق، مشيرًا إلى أن أولى الغواصات الأميركية العاملة بالطاقة النووية يُتوقّع أن تصل إلى أستراليا بحلول ثلاثينيات هذا القرن.
