Speaker 1 (00:02):
David.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Hey, Phil, you know season eight just dropped and we
have so many wonderful guest stars, but no one is
a bigger star than you. In the Las Vegas episode,
oh well.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
The guy next to me, Donnie, honestman, I think has
me a lot. But that episode with Ray with Brad,
and this season with your joke. For Max's guest stars,
it's definitely the most impressive group ever, including mel Brooks.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
I just so yeah, I can die now having had
mel Brooks on the show. As a matter of fact,
I'm glad you brought mel up because he's on the
show for a few minutes in the Australia episode. But
I just released the twenty minute uncut mel Brooks conversation
from that episode, which we couldn't include the whole thing,
otherwise half the show would be mel Brooks, which nothing
(00:51):
wrong with that, but I wanted everyone to have the
pure In fact, the camera is mostly on mel the
entire time. This is a man who is smart camera
ninety nine years old, okay, and still we well not
just with it, hilarious. I think he's the funniest person
who ever lived. I think is that an overset?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
I think I think he agrees.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Who doesn't, So I'd love people to go on YouTube
and see that.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
But I begged you for this episode. You're gonna do
a calling episode so we can hear from the people,
because a lot of them are in the middle of
just binging or rushing or savoring these episodes.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
So happy with the season. I think it's our best
yet and I'm delighted to take your calls and here
we go.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Let's build a means to the fat. Food for thought,
jokes on town, talking.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
With the mouthsful, having fun with the beas the cake,
humble pie.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Serving a upslie lovely, the dressing on the side, it's
naked lunch.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Clothing option.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Be hungry man. He's trapping on class the sea in
the lane. This chang to stand the art past but
chicken a lag.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
He's jap peep.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Pla out to peep.
Speaker 6 (02:32):
And that's for you.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
People pay you in a papa. This is honey asking somebody,
somebody peas it?
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Uh Hi, Christina, Oh, this is such a pleasure. Look
it's really it's really you.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
And you're eating even better.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Where are you?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
I am in South Florida?
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Nice?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
How's the weather today?
Speaker 3 (03:10):
It's oppressively hot.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
I'm sorry, it's okay in La and it's oppressively beautiful.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
I know you guys get some nice, dynamic weather out there.
Speaker 7 (03:21):
We get hot eight months of the year and maybe
two weeks of cold, and cold is relative to here.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, but if you have to be an oppressive heat,
Miami's a pretty cool place to be. Indeed, there's so
much happening.
Speaker 7 (03:37):
Yes, always, there's always something that you can be doing
down here.
Speaker 8 (03:40):
And the food.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Most importantly, we're talking season eight of Somebody Feed Fill.
Have you seen? How much have you seen so far?
I finished season eight today and it is my favorite season,
and not just I'm in it for heat, how about you?
Speaker 3 (03:55):
I mean, I've loved every season. I really have enjoyed.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
This is such a comfort show. I'm sure you hear
that all the time, but it really is so magical,
and I've watched I think I have two young children,
so forgive me. I don't get through things as quickly
as I love.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Sorry, I said to Phil, he's gonna forgive you.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
I appreciate the forgiveness.
Speaker 6 (04:19):
I need it.
Speaker 9 (04:21):
I think we.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Honestly, I've probably watched three or four of the episode
so far.
Speaker 7 (04:32):
One of my favorite dough has to have been Finland,
maybe because I've always enjoyed.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Finland, but.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
I have not I really want to go to go
to the North Pole and do that little train trip,
so to maybe ask a question if that's okay, I'm
a mental health therapist, and so my question to.
Speaker 10 (04:58):
You is that you are so so beautifully inclusive of
everybody or around you have such a wonderful way of
just building comfortability around you and having people kind of
succumb to the environment as much as I could possibly imagine.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Being in front of cameras is probably very.
Speaker 9 (05:18):
Foreign for a lot of the people that you work with.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Does that come or stem from anywhere in particular within
your life.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
The comfort in front of the camera or the comfort
making other people comfortable.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, making other people comfortable.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
You know, that's a great question, because I try to
put myself in their position. I got used to it.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
I wasn't always used to it.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
When we started the show, I was a little nervous, right,
even though I had been an actor before I was
a writer. So I guess I had a little bit
of stage time, so to speak. Sure, but what we
do when we film is I come in and I
(06:04):
say hi, to everybody, and I just start talking like
this as I am to you. And there are times
when they go are we rolling? And yeah, I've had
the cameras rolling the whole time. It should be natural,
it should be as if we're just talking, because that's
what we're doing. Look, you're talking to me right now
(06:26):
and you're on camera.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Are you nervous?
Speaker 2 (06:29):
You don't see nervous.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
I am a little bit, but.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
You're a good actress.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Also, you know what, I'll tell you something funny. We
once made a documentary called Exporting Raymond where I went
to Russia, and the first thing I did was I
wanted to go to my parents' house and film with them.
And the camera crew comes in to my parents' house.
They are not actors, and they put a microphone up
(06:57):
the front of my mom's blouse.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
She was like, oh my and my father with the
battery pack after wear this in my ass?
Speaker 11 (07:03):
What is this?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
And that guy comes in he's got the long boom
pole with the microphone and two big guys with big cameras.
Within five minutes they were fighting as if nobody was there.
So what happens is, even if you're a little nervous,
you do eventually get used to it. Even within minutes
(07:25):
you understand like, oh my god, they're not going to
bite me the camera right, and you just you're talking
to me and that's all there is. So I try
to involve the person, ask them a lot of questions
and they get out of their own heads some of them.
You know, who was the most nervous person We showed it.
I don't know if you saw the Basque Country episode.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
We went to San.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Sebastian and I had Katie Lee Biego, who's a great
Food Network star. Her husband is a producer on the show.
He's at every shoot practically that we do. He was
in the scene with me and his wife.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Okay, he knows me very.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Well, he knows his wife. I'm gonna say maybe a
little less. But you've never seen a more nervous guy
thing Ryan, But he was sweating. She was like dabbing
his face because he was so nervous to be and
he was right now, he's always right next to the camera.
(08:23):
But it's funny if you're if you're not, if you're
not used to be in front of the camera, it's like.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
You never worked with cameras. Christina, is that is a
Christine Christina. Let me ask you. I wanted to say
that it's so, I'm so glad you brought this up
because I am as the sort of guy, the other
guy who's often at a lunch when people come up
to Phil, I will say that one of his I
was going to be a wise ass and say, I
(08:50):
really don't see that he makes people comfortable. The absolute
truth is, I was thinking about it today because of
something I was writing about rock star, who I knew
who was the greatest guy, but when he is in public,
he was so uncomfortable that he made people uptight.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
And what I Phil.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
I think what Phil realizes is those moments are not
about you. Those moments are potentially very big moments to
the people who would bother to come up to you.
And I think one of your greatest qualities is the
way you give every person a little bit of what
they want, and it's like, uh, you know, it's like
uh the Beatles, like Ringo, who I know a little
(09:30):
bit said everybody wants their Beetle moment, and everyone gets
their Phil moment. It's very very it's very nice to
see because I'm bored of him, but a lot of
people really like him.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
You know what makes it is that you're so nice?
You're so sweet and nice. How how could I not
reflect that back to you. I'm just reflecting what I get.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
And you would like Groserian theory.
Speaker 7 (09:56):
Say again, you would like something called Rosarian theory and mental.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Yes, that's what that is. Yeah, yeah, look at that.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
I hit on a theory without knowing.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
It, doctor Rogers.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
What was doctor Rogers?
Speaker 1 (10:09):
Yeah? Yeah, I think I studied this one hundred years ago.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
I think it's very important to project niceness. I feel
like it's in short supply lately. But I also feel
that what I if I put out niceness, I get
niceness back.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Christina, You've been a perfect first guest on this calling episode.
I wonder if we should keep moving because do we
still have eighteen people? Thirty eight people are now waiting.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Christina, But I want to talk to Christina all day.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Okay, So how old are your kids?
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Five and three?
Speaker 1 (10:47):
All right? You kissed them for us?
Speaker 12 (10:48):
Okay, Well, thank you so much, and thank you for
all the work you do.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Stay cool, stay inside, hydrate I do.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
I don't leave my house, don't worry about it. To
meet you, nice to meet you too.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Bye.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Oh hi, sorry, I was actually watching your show. I
had a very imposit really quick so I could.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Talk which Which show were you on?
Speaker 12 (11:16):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (11:17):
Just the new season.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I'm on episode of Manila.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Oh we love Oh it's so cool.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
All the thing you've tried there is incredible.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Oh where are you?
Speaker 6 (11:30):
So?
Speaker 3 (11:31):
I'm out here in Des Moines, Iowa? Oh?
Speaker 7 (11:33):
Boy?
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Do you know?
Speaker 6 (11:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Do you know what I'm playing?
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Des Moines, Iowa.
Speaker 6 (11:37):
I am.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
And that's actually why I wanted to come onto this meeting.
I wanted to talk to you about that a little
bit please. So I just moved out here a year ago.
I've been in the food industry for fifteen years. From
where Utah?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (11:52):
Yeah, quite a difference.
Speaker 13 (11:56):
But I actually work at this place in the Hotel
Fort It's a historical hotel Barack Obama.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Helen Keller has stayed there, yes, and it's gorgeous. Wow,
very cool place.
Speaker 13 (12:11):
There's a restaurant in there called Proud Foot and Bird.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Beautiful food.
Speaker 13 (12:17):
I actually sent you a message on your Instagram about
it with all the details about this place, and I
was wondering if you had any dinner plans when you
come to Iowa.
Speaker 14 (12:27):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Look at this, David, I'm being asked out to dinner exactly.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Exactly. This is a very appealing offer.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
I have no idea what my schedule is, but that
that is really nice of you. Tell me the restaurant again,
Proudfoot and Bird.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
I sent you a link to their Instagram page and everything.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Do you know what Javier or producer?
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Xavier is from.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Davenport?
Speaker 3 (12:54):
He's from from Davenport.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Yeah, is that far from and and is des Moines
the big city?
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Right?
Speaker 2 (13:04):
I I figured, But Davenport's not bigger than that.
Speaker 13 (13:08):
We do amazing We do amazing stuff over there, and
we we often get overlooked because we're connected to a hotel.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
And I would just love it if you came and
solid or solid we're about.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Well, let me tell you you're You're at the head
of the list of places I would go in des
Moin because I don't have any places that I know
in des Moin, so so there's a very good chance. Listen,
guy's gotta.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Eat right exactly, got it, exactly.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
You know, I usually eat a little something before the
show because after show I'd like to either uh get
a flight out because I have another city the next night.
Or I gotta go to sleep.
Speaker 6 (13:45):
But I.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Don't you if if some of the people who attend
bring you chocolate, oh my goodness, don't put that out
there because I'll be in and dated.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
People bring me food. You know, a lot of they
don't let me take home cooked food. Yeah, for safety reasons.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
You just never know.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
And sometimes you know not not even not even that
we're worried somebody's trying to poison me, but inadvertently someone.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Could, so they don't let me eat it.
Speaker 6 (14:14):
It all looks.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
And it's so sweet and it's so nice.
Speaker 6 (14:20):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
But I do have a rider in my little contract.
My daughter told me, much.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Like van Halen, he says what Eminem's, he won't have.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
You know what I like. I like a little treat
in between because I do a VIP meet and greet
after the show. And my daughter says, you need a
little energy. You're tired after the show. You need a
little something. So I said, I like chocolate. She says,
you can have whatever kind you want. I said, oh,
now you're in the food industry, you'll appreciate this, right.
You probably have a chocolate tear in Des Moines, right right, Yes, Okay,
(14:56):
I say go to the best chocolate tear and I'd
like to try. They're homemade dark chocolate, not milk chocolate,
dark chocolate peanut butter cup. Ooh, and so those are
waiting for me backstage in every city that I go
around the world, and you were the lucky't imagine they're
(15:17):
so fresh and deliciously.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Oh my god, that's what led Zeppelin had in every room.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
Do you see what a swinger I am?
Speaker 1 (15:23):
Do you see what I go for?
Speaker 2 (15:25):
People have cases of Jack Daniels right. I would just
like a little dark chocolate peanut butter cup.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Becky, did you say you lived previously in Utah? I did, yes,
And so I hope you will watch or if you
haven't already, the Vegas episode, because we I have lunch.
We have brunch at a soul food restaurant or a
southern restaurant with a great Utah citizen, Donnie Osmond. I
hope you'll check that out.
Speaker 13 (15:49):
Yes, Actually, my family are huge fans of Donnie Osmond.
My mom actually saying in acchoir with one of the
Osmond's years ago, when I was a kid, she was
in the Utah Festival chorus and the Osmonds came and
I can't remember which one it was, but she got
(16:09):
to sing with them and it was one of the
coolest shows I've ever been to.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
I was like eight years old.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
Well, when you go to Vegas next ye go to
his Donnie's show. It's great, wonderful. I want to I
love Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
I just watched that episode.
Speaker 13 (16:22):
I was so excited to watch it, and I just
got to mention to you, Phil, what you do for
the communities and like how you shed light on people
who are just trying to help their local communities and
these charities is so incredible, especially with the world that
we're in right now. Beautiful way to tune out and
(16:46):
realize that not everything is bad in the world.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
That's right, It isn't. Most of the world is sweet
and nice like you.
Speaker 3 (16:54):
Thank you. I'm a huge fan of yours.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
We see you at the big Foot and Buny and
what is it?
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Bird than you so much.
Speaker 13 (17:04):
If you if you respond to my message on Instagram,
I can get you the email to my manager and
you can organize something if you would like.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Okay, that's thank you.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
We have a guest calling Phil. Phil and I are
recording his Calling episode talking about his new season. We
have Brad Paisley. I've heard him again. Were you calling
it as a fan of Phil's to talk about his
new season? I?
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Wow, Wow, that's that that Paul says everything.
Speaker 15 (17:36):
I'm a huge fanta.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
See what ridiculous hijenks he gets into in this season.
Speaker 15 (17:44):
I also saw his interview.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
With Ray and.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
Brad.
Speaker 15 (17:50):
No, Brad wasn't No, Brad wasn't there.
Speaker 9 (17:53):
It was it was the interview on it.
Speaker 16 (17:54):
Maybe it was Good Morning America or one of them,
but it was Today's show.
Speaker 6 (17:58):
Maybe it was.
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Patricia and Ray and Phil.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Oh, yeah, it was on Entertainment tonight. Yeah, very nice.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
I saw that interview.
Speaker 17 (18:07):
I thought I thought it was great.
Speaker 7 (18:09):
Thank you.
Speaker 18 (18:11):
So emotional?
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Uh yeah, bred h.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
You know, I haven't seen you in a minute. When
you when are you coming here for Dodger game? What's
going on?
Speaker 1 (18:21):
I'm hoping to come out.
Speaker 15 (18:22):
To watch Clayton break three thousand strikeouts?
Speaker 6 (18:25):
Come on tomorrow. That'll be the.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Second or third?
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Can the three of us go? Can we do it?
I will be in England unless things change, but you go,
you guys go?
Speaker 18 (18:35):
Two of us can't?
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (18:39):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Well, and don't get you know, we should get back
to our call in guests, but you should know that.
I know it's important to you to see the Vegas
episode where you can see Donnie Osmond, Phil and I
having soul food at Grit's Cafe.
Speaker 18 (18:54):
Man, there's first of all.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
And that's whole establishment.
Speaker 18 (19:01):
You guys walking in there, they must.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Like, well we we brought Donnie in for cover. Exactly, uh, exactly,
that's why we did.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
It, all right, Uh uh, I'm the other white meat here.
I'm hanging up. Well, we'll talk to you later.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
We know.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
I know you, young lady.
Speaker 6 (19:40):
You are.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
One of the biggest Sean Cassidy fans as we are.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
In the world.
Speaker 9 (19:48):
Yeah, that would be me.
Speaker 16 (19:50):
I'm I'm one of the hosts of the Squat Society podcast.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Nice and yet you still like our Donnie Osmond interviews
and appearances, and you I believe or I think so
that we get shown back on for his new tour,
which we want to. We have to reach out to Sean.
Speaker 16 (20:07):
Yeah, I'm actually trying to work up some kind of
way to convince him to do our podcast. But I
don't think we're as famous as Phil.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Yet nobody is as famous as Phil.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
Nobody not true.
Speaker 16 (20:24):
But you know, I'm nothing if I'm not persistent, and
I figure I got nothing but time.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
He would do whatever you said, he will do it.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
I would.
Speaker 16 (20:38):
So how are you guys? I do have a question
for Phil. Let's do it, Okay, Phil, there with me.
So a few months ago, we had Ryan Cassidy on
our podcast and Ryan was explaining to us the difference
between set decorator, set designer, set something other thing, and
(21:01):
he cuse, you know, he works for NCIS and he's
a set designer.
Speaker 9 (21:07):
I believe.
Speaker 16 (21:09):
So I've had a question most of my life since
I've always watched Everybody Loves Raymond, and I said, if
I ever get a chance, I have to ask fil
why did the set decorated set designer? Whoever make the
baby's toys decorations for Raymond's house. It's like, if you
(21:34):
look in this living room on the stairs, there are
stuffed animals in.
Speaker 9 (21:37):
The window thing.
Speaker 16 (21:39):
They're little toys the doll house. It's like the living
room is decorated with baby toys.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Do you have children?
Speaker 9 (21:48):
Not at all?
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Well, this might be a question of having people who
have children and people who won't. I think I don't
have children.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
You would never dream of.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Having kids toys all over the house, right, But if
you do have children, there are kitch toys all over
the house.
Speaker 1 (22:04):
It's the truth, it's they believe them, giving the the
reality of the situation. I will say, I remember that
as a parent was true, and now we have a puppy,
and it's true with a puppy as well. Dog puppy
toys everywhere, So I think that's the answer. So it
wasn't a chosen decoration.
Speaker 16 (22:23):
It just is it just it And I get that,
but it looks like they're so strategically placed, like they
were being used. It's like, oh, we don't want plants
and pictures, We're gonna let little stuff to wrap and
knack corner and dolls up on this window sitting around
it was stuff kind of funny looking, and I'm like,
(22:46):
why did they do that?
Speaker 18 (22:48):
You know.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
You've hit on something, and I think I need to
reevaluate exactly how good this show was.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
You're gonna go back and it's like George Lucas did
with the Yes, Like you're gonna go back and change
it digital change that's right.
Speaker 16 (23:04):
Trust me, Raymond was one of my favorite shows ever.
Speaker 2 (23:08):
So I just you.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
It's just a note.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Listen, we're in We're in a room right now that
used to be my kid's bedroom. There's tough toys here.
We didn't get rid of them. Why because they remind
us of him when he was a little kid, and
they're kind of sweet.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Look is it's stuff? Thing just doing there right there
for no reason.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
I get it.
Speaker 16 (23:34):
But this was supposed to be the living room and.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Over your lives, they ruin your living room. Well, thank
you so much for this question, because I think we
finally it's like it's like a watergate. We've exposed a
major issue. But we have many more cassic Savior do
we have waiting twenty five? So we got to keep moving.
We got to keep but that. Thank you, Thank you guys.

get to see the new season yet. But I love you,
and my favorite is with your parents.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Oh thanks, they were my favorite too. I think they
were the best part of the show.
Speaker 19 (24:52):
Hey, they made a great son.
Speaker 11 (24:54):
So what the heck?
Speaker 16 (24:54):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Sweet? Well, can I say? Can I say feel that
your parents would have love this new season because there's
so much you and Richard. True, they also love Monica
at least as much as you, and there's a lot
of Monica and the jokes for Max. You get the
greatest group of people this year. Uh, mel Brooks, I
(25:15):
don't think it could ever get better than you know.
Can you imagine what your father would have thought of
that melt Brooks telling a joke for him?
Speaker 2 (25:21):
He would have plotted as they, which is the technical term.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Yep, Pat, it's great. I love seeing Monica. I love
when you have your kids on.
Speaker 18 (25:31):
It's great.
Speaker 2 (25:32):

Speaker 9 (26:48):
I moved here four months ago.
Speaker 1 (26:51):

Speaker 9 (26:54):
My boyfriend is Dutch.
Speaker 2 (26:56):

to actually.
Speaker 1 (26:59):

Speaker 10 (27:07):
Then.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Did did you see our Amsteam episode?
Speaker 19 (27:10):
I did?
Speaker 1 (27:12):
Did we do it in justice?
Speaker 20 (27:14):
I think you did?
Speaker 6 (27:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (27:16):
I was disappointed though that I looked into the kettle
one Public Tours yet ah.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
I had no idea, so that was a special They
let me in, They let this this monkey in and
play with their product. They I actually fed the coals
into the original kettle one. It's called kettle one because
there's the first kettle from six to eighty.
Speaker 9 (27:40):
I'm so jealous. I'm so jealous. I wish I could
do it too.
Speaker 11 (27:45):
I think you.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
I think there will be a time when you get
to I hope. So. Well, that's nice, it's very they're
very nice guys. Eleven generations eleven. So when you meet
the boys, they're eleven general rations, great great great great
great great grandfathers in the family business. There wasn't one
(28:06):
guy who said, I don't even I don't like how
this tastes.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
No, everybody eleven.
Speaker 9 (28:12):
Well, who has that right?
Speaker 7 (28:15):
Right?
Speaker 2 (28:15):
But Amsterdam, isn't it? Do you love living there? Is
it such a dream? It feels like a dream whenever
I'm there.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
I do I do you know.
Speaker 12 (28:24):
I'm still getting used to it, but I'm learning learning
the language. I just finished my Dutch language class. I
passed my class today.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
So you're a Dutch congratulations? Yeah?
Speaker 9 (28:36):
Thanks?
Speaker 2 (28:37):
Do you do you and your boyfriend have a boat?
Speaker 6 (28:41):

Speaker 9 (28:42):
I wish I did, but no, we don't.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
We would like to give you a boat. You get
a boat.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
You got a boat. That's the Amsterdam Oprah.
Speaker 1 (28:50):
Yes. Yeah, my son just married a girl recently from
Amsterdam and I got to go. I got to go
there many years ago. And uh, the greatest use of
my Rolling Stone credentials at the time ever was the
Van Go Museum was closed for some private event and
(29:12):
I went with a band called Prefab Sprout who are
you know? Who I loved but they we dropped their
name and they didn't know them. But then the band
said he's from Rolling Stone and they said, okay, you
get a private tour. Oh so I got a private
run through that museum, which was like me at exactly you.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
That's fantastic. The museum scene in Amsterdam is unsurpassed. It's
just magnificent. You who can sleep overnight with the night
Watchman painting they have that?
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Have you done that?
Speaker 16 (29:44):
No?
Speaker 9 (29:45):
I hadn't heard about that.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
If you if you call the Reichs Museum or going
online evenings, sleeping in the gallery with the night.
Speaker 9 (29:54):
Watchman not just for kids. It's like an adult thing.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
It's an adult thing. Okay, Yeah, it sounds really cool.
Speaker 9 (30:03):
Yeah, no, I'll look into that for sure.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Great.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Well, it's nice to see you. Thanks for calling.
Speaker 9 (30:09):
So nice to meet you.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
It's nice.
Speaker 9 (30:11):
I've seen all of your episodes.
Speaker 12 (30:13):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Thanks, all right, we'll see you n Amsterdam.
Speaker 9 (30:16):
I love it, all right, see you later.
Speaker 16 (30:18):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
You've got here, I got double.
Speaker 15 (30:37):
Hi guys, how are you?
Speaker 1 (30:39):
This is David. My name is Phil.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
What are your names?
Speaker 15 (30:46):
I'm Micah and I'm Lisa.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
Micah and Lisa. Very nice to meet you. Where are
you calling from?
Speaker 21 (30:53):
From Alamo Bordo, New Mexico, So about twenty minutes away
from White Zams.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Wow, White Sands, New Mexico, which, yeah, I think there's
a movie called White Sands, but I've never I've never
been there.
Speaker 21 (31:06):
It sounds beautiful, it's it's super great. We really truly
like Almbordo. We're about an hour and a half north
of El Paso, about forty five minutes away from Las Cruisis,
which is our bigger ish town.
Speaker 15 (31:23):
But we're about three hours south of Albuquerque. And you get.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Netflix there and have you watched season eight of Somebody?
Speaker 21 (31:30):
You've watched all of season Phil, Dad, that's how I
know about you as well, because I did not know
about the podcast until we had watched.
Speaker 15 (31:38):
I had no idea. I know, I felt like I
was a trader, that I had no idea that you
guys don't Lisa.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
You are.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
You don't know how happy. I will shut up at
a second because no one wants to hear from me,
including my wife. But I do believe we're hearing our show.
Since Phil put me next to Donnie Osbend eating soul
food in Vegas, our podcast has shot up the charts
and all these people didn't know about it. So thank
you Phil, and thank you Lisa, I and Micah.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
It was long overdue for you to be in the show,
and I'm just glad that people are discovering our podcast
through the show.
Speaker 1 (32:10):
That's nice too, and giving us five stars on Apple Podcast.
Speaker 15 (32:14):
Right, Well, you're gonna have dedicated listeners now.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
So consider I've talked to Phil.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Do you have a question I actually do great.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
Body, I'll keep fit with all the eating I'll do.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
That's a very good question. I have to work out
every single day. In fact, I made it to this
podcast with a minute to spare because I was working
out down the hall.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Here.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
This is my son's old bedroom that you're looking at,
and we took my daughter's old bedroom and made it
a gym, so I work out every day. You have
to listen. I want to eat everything I want to
I mean, but I don't finish anything. I don't finish.
The crew is usually looking at me with their eyes
(33:00):
bugging out as I'm eating the most delicious stuff in
the world, and I love giving it to them. Uh, listen,
here's the lesson. It's only good if you can share it.
Speaker 15 (33:11):
What will you share food? If it's really good? That's questionable.
Depends upon what it is. It all varies.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Can I ask you if you have a favorite episode
so far this season?
Speaker 11 (33:23):
I will.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
I personally love Vegas, but I will tell you when
I'm not in with Donnie Osmond to bleaseee is one.
I'm like, I can't believe this place. I didn't I
didn't know anything about it. My favorite song is Midnight
Train to Georgia. Yes, but I did not think of
that Georgia Georgia on my mind. Yes, exactly.
Speaker 8 (33:43):
So is your favorite a favorite location?
Speaker 6 (33:45):
That's a really good question that I'm not to think about.
Speaker 15 (33:48):
Well, you may not get.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Was there a moment in particular that you like. Because
I haven't talked to people who've seen it yet, I feel.
Speaker 6 (33:59):
Like I don't know.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Episode one. It was when y'all tried spicy food.
Speaker 15 (34:03):
Ones were pretty sure that was really fun. I like
a whole bunch of episodes on Hey, I.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
Like seeing their reactions.
Speaker 21 (34:09):
I understand, well, I do love the Vegas episode only
because so we're military affiliated. My husband was active duty
military and went and had to actually go well, I
think he was a civilian contractor and worked out at Nellis.
Speaker 15 (34:23):
So we were apart for nineteen months.
Speaker 21 (34:25):
We stayed in Alamagordo, New Mexico while he went to
go work at Nellis Air Force Space, And so it
was crazy to us because of all the places that
you guys could have gone to watch the episode. I
was like, babe, oh my god, wait wait wait wait,
we've been there. Wait wait wait wait, we've been there too,
And so it was just really neat. I mean, we
make a ton of connections with your episodes, regardless whether
(34:47):
from the emotional connection that your journeys and the foods
that you guys have and the people that you have
on there. But just to be able to see I
was like I was like, that's crazy, Like we went
me on Wolf of all the different you know, things
that you could have done. So it's just we love
being able to watch your show and make connections with
(35:11):
all of the things that you've done. I found out
that one of my good friends that I taught with,
I'm a teacher at Holloman Air Force Base, she actually
knows the the chef from the Oh the Fox. Oh,
what is the name of the restaurant? They moved to Connecticut.
Now they were in Rhode Island.
Speaker 15 (35:29):
Oh, yes, I had no idea.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
I Boston episode.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
We went over to What a Great Lady, and then yeah,
I saw I had to write what state I was
gonna have.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Na Native American. Now now she's in Connecticut. Yes, so
the scene that we do with her, that restaurant has
closed and they opened.
Speaker 15 (35:49):
In Yeah, now they're in Connecticut filmed.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
But I want to tell everybody go visit Cherry. She's
a superstar. Her food is unbelievably great.
Speaker 15 (35:59):
Well, we definitely Well I'm from New York originally.
Speaker 21 (36:01):
Yeah, so yeah, I'm from like Poughkeepsie and everybody's like, oh,
that's up state.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
I was like, that's not I love Poughkeepsie's beautiful to
spend summers.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Why not.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
I spent my summers in Palling Lake Lake.
Speaker 15 (36:14):
Oh yeah yeah.
Speaker 21 (36:15):
My my dad lived in Hopewell before he passed Football Junction,
which is like near Fishkill and Poughkeepsie. Telling people Pickkeepsie
is easier because a lot of people don't know where
hope Well is.
Speaker 15 (36:26):
So but I'm sure you guys.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Thank you for being a teacher, Thank you for your
husband and son, thank you, thank you all, And this
is You're the most perfect dream caller for this was
really a pleasure.
Speaker 21 (36:38):
Well, thank you guys for taking because this is a
huge amount of time and I can't imagine how many
people are a platy in the waiting room. So thank
you for bringing different cultures and awareness to different types
of cuisines.
Speaker 15 (36:49):
Hope people hopefully get people.
Speaker 21 (36:50):
Adventurous about getting out there and you know, taking risks.
I think, especially different cultured food can feel overwhelming, especially
to people who have lived in tiny little towns and
they've never really gotten out. So thank you guys for
what you're doing to bring awareness to Phil.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
It's all Phil, and our producer Xavier who let you in.
It's just made his reservations for his first international trip,
and he's going to Italy, which is the smartest decision
anyone could ever make. Wonder to all these other callers
that Phil is getting. Thank you so much, so great
to meet you, sho.
Speaker 15 (37:25):
Thank you guys, have a good apportuny.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Bye.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
Is this Lewis?
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Yeah, it's Robert and Catherine.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
Robert and Catherine.
Speaker 6 (37:39):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Where does Lewis come from?
Speaker 18 (37:41):
Their last name?
Speaker 2 (37:44):
Didn't think, my father. What part of the world do
you in?
Speaker 3 (37:51):
We're in Connecticut, nice, originally East Boston and Cambridge.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Nice. I need you to move closer together so I
can see you in the frame. That's what I like
to say. Election.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
I can't believe we're talking to you.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
We're talking to Hi.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
Hi.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
This is my friend David. Nice to meet you.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
What can we do for you today?
Speaker 3 (38:14):
I know, I think we're short right now, there's one
on one.
Speaker 1 (38:17):
What did you think it was going to be publicists.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
People and we would just have our name up there
or something like you and me?
Speaker 18 (38:26):
Come on?
Speaker 3 (38:27):
You know I sent you a zoom once and told
zoom a and said that I wanted to feed you.
Speaker 9 (38:34):
I still want to feed you.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Bille.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
She listens to the title of the show, accordingly, wants
to beat Bill.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
The title denotes someone who can't feed himself, So yes,
I need you to feed me.
Speaker 22 (38:50):
So your show, your show is unbelievable. It makes us
cry sometimes because you're such a you you touch people's
lives and the people that touch your life. It's just
it's amazing watching the show. So really it's special for
us to watch, and so we really appreciate it. We're
(39:12):
we're travelers ourselves in the places that have good food
and wine.
Speaker 2 (39:16):
Yes, so the best thing you can be in life
is a traveler, I think.
Speaker 16 (39:21):
Yes.
Speaker 22 (39:21):
Yeah, although we haven't traveled the past few years.
Speaker 18 (39:25):
Life's gotten the way.
Speaker 22 (39:26):
But were Our wedding anniversary is September tenth, and you're
going to be in Boston, our hometown, and we're going
to be in France a wedding at a wedding.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Oh so we're gonna miss you.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
And actually it really bugs us.
Speaker 1 (39:43):
Well maybe we'll all get lucky and the couple will
break up. That's let's root for that.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
Yeah, you can come see my show.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
Yes, yes, I'd love to be a wedding.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
But and I'm going to Boston tomorrow. You are really
although I hear it's a little warm. I'm very I
love Tomorrow is gonna be okay, Yes, I will be.
Oh no, I took note to an oyster. And yet
you're gonna love that. The characters, so Boston, the accent
and characters. You're going to go into the greatest episode.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
Going to modern have the Canois with that guy. That
guy is the best hilarious.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
That's what accent.
Speaker 6 (40:23):
We don't.
Speaker 3 (40:25):
I can't imagine.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Oh man, I'm so sorry you're going to that wedding.
But I love I love meeting you guys. Thank you
for being so sweet.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
I just we want to hug you and I want
to come to Connecticut. It's not that far. See there's Boston.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
I'll get in the car and I'm uncle. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
So so wa one am I questions? I have a
question for you.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
Question.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
I was showing you off for no reason.
Speaker 6 (40:56):
I know.
Speaker 22 (40:57):
So you're you're you show you enjoy everything and everything
is the best thing ever. We were in San Sebastian,
by the way, and that's that was our most memorable
food experience ever.
Speaker 6 (41:11):
So, but.
Speaker 18 (41:14):
Is it not on film?
Speaker 3 (41:15):
You can't like everything you eat, do you There's gonna.
Speaker 10 (41:18):
Be something that.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
It looks like you like everything, and I say, yes,
I like everything I put in the show.
Speaker 3 (41:26):
Okay, right, that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
But I don't want to, you know, I don't want
to put in the stuff I don't like. Sure, I
never want to. First of all, I'm always going to
be polite, So even if I don't like it, I
I at least say very nice. I don't want to
ruin someone's business. I understand that I'm on TV and
I could ruin someone's business by saying this isn't so hot.
I'm not here for that. I learned a lesson first
(41:53):
in the show, and that applies to life too. I
have a limited amount of time in the show. It
turns out in life, I don't have time for the negative.
Speaker 6 (42:06):
So we got it.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
So we featured a positive.
Speaker 22 (42:09):
Okay, fabulous.
Speaker 11 (42:10):
I like that.
Speaker 9 (42:12):
Okay.
Speaker 16 (42:12):
I hope you keep going because so many Americans, so
many people just need to see other cultures and open
up their minds to other cultures.
Speaker 3 (42:22):
They're just the difference and to embrace it, not just
no I don't know, that's it.
Speaker 16 (42:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
That was very well said, very well said and timely
and important.
Speaker 1 (42:38):
Thank you so much for calling in.
Speaker 3 (42:40):
Thank you it was very nice to meet you too
as well.
Speaker 6 (42:43):
Thank yeah. I hope you have time.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
Will And if you have not watched the Vegas episode,

Osman and me. I know one half of that is exciting.
Speaker 2 (42:58):
Thank you so much by you guys. Hello, Hello, this
is Phil Rosenthal.
Speaker 1 (43:10):

Speaker 7 (43:14):
I love you?
Speaker 2 (43:16):
Well, thanks, I love you too. You want to turn
on the camera? No, okay, so you don't love me
not much.
Speaker 6 (43:24):
I'm not camera ready?
Speaker 1 (43:27):
Look at me? Can you see me?

even above and beyond my theme song.
Speaker 18 (58:05):
Well.
Speaker 1 (58:05):

when we were in Denmark, we were like, why aren't
you going here?
Speaker 18 (59:08):
It's like a train ride over.
Speaker 1 (59:11):
Well, can I say that I went to Mama, Mama?
Why can't I pronounce it? I went there and at
least four five years ago, I guess it was, and
it had still one of the best record stores I've
ever been to. Uh and when Phil when I was there, Yeah,
I almost got into an argument almost with my wife.
