Dr. Jessica Choplin, Professor of Psychological Science at DePaul University, explains how empathy and anxiety can influence an individual to either, in the case of empathy, come to a realization that he or she is being conned, or in the case of anxiety, predispose the person more readily to fall victim to a scam. The more we understand of the victim and can walk in the victim's shoes, the more equipped we'll be in offering help.
