Title: The Tables Turn for David (2 Samuel Chapters 17 - 19) - Lesson from April 27, 2025
Introduction: As I mentioned the last time that we met, The rebellion led by Absalom only lasted about 4 years from start to finish. So, in this week's lesson we will see the rebellion brought to a quick ending. I have also mentioned in the past that while it is quite easy to focus on David’s colossal failures, in doing so, we run the risk of missing some spiritual applications.
In chapters 17 - 20, once again David demonstrates why he is known as a man after God’s own heart. Throughout these chapters and even the previous ones, David refuses to force his own will. He is willing to sacrifice himself and his throne if that is the will of Jehovah. He allows his enemies to mock and scorn him without rebuttal. David only seeks the will of Jehovah and not that of his own making.
For me, David once again stands out as a type of Christ. I know and understand that others will disagree. However, I cannot help but draw on the parallels within these chapters and be reminded of the humility and the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Christ did not suffer as a king. He left his throne room on high and chose to lower himself. Yet, once the suffering was over he once again rose to the throne where He is established forever. He is the true Lion of the tribe of Judah.
