Speaker 1 (00:01):
Snow Smother's shore city as the bells strike midnight, and
a red giant stalks the streets while people crash and
claw at ghosts. Only they can see somewhere above the chaos,
something new is born, fear itself whispering Merry Christmas? How

(00:33):
did you get in here?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Ho? Ho?

But as for tonight, imagine it's Christmas Eve and the
whole city is wrapped in snow and panic. People are
crashing their cars, running from things no one else can see,

(03:13):
screaming at shadows that vanish when the lights come on. Cops, kids,
strangers on the street, all haunted at once, like someone
flipped a switch in their heads. Now, imagine there's something
out there that likes it that way. Not a ghost,

(03:37):
not a demon you can vanish. Just a shape made
of every ugly thought you've ever had, every moment you
wished someone would suffer. It walks the city in bare
feet and a wicked smile tonight. We're not just telling

(03:58):
a Christmas story about heres and monsters. We're asking what
happens when fear itself decides you are its favorite present
and it starts unwrapping you from the inside out. A

(04:24):
blue Christmas by Rob Field's prologue. Have you ever heard
of fear? Okay, yes, I'm sure you know what fear
itself is, But I'm talking about this creature named Fear.

(04:45):
I have no idea where the hell she came from,
but I'm down here in the sewer system on Christmas Eve,
cowering in a corner. I've just pissed myself, which should
tell you how scared this thing has made me. By
the way, I'm a reporter. I came all the way

(05:07):
to Shore City to get a story for Josh Caller,
my editor. I learned that superheroes are actually real, and
now Blue Girl and the Jeweler are at the mercy
of this thing named Fear. Mm. Yes, I'm loving my

(05:29):
new powers. Now my dollies show Fear what scares you
the most, then she shall use your fear to destroy you.
Just seeing Fear made me fall to my knees. But
hearing her, she sounds like a little girl. Definitely one

(05:55):
of the creepiest things I've ever heard. That's why I
ran away and hid back here. Like I said, I'm
still scared as hell. Maybe I'm still too close to
that thing. Ugh? How did I get myself into this situation?

(06:18):
Maybe I'd better start from the beginning, which was earlier today. Boy,
do I ever know how to pick him? Take? Right? Now?
It's Christmas Eve. This man finds me sitting in Shakers,
a bar in Strickfield college kids like to frequent anyway.

(06:42):
I'm wearing this tight fitting dress and heels and nursing
a tall glass of beer. You'd think I'd be having
red or white wine, but I hate wine. Give me
a good old fashioned beer any day of the week.
When I'm taking another pull, that's when I feel the

(07:03):
man directly behind me and glance over my shoulder. He's
wearing an all white suit, well practically all white. He's
got a black shirt on inside his vest. He's also
got a piece of eye candy on either side of him.
Yet this asshole is clearly interested in me. Honestly, I

(07:27):
couldn't tell you how many times men wanted to pick
me up once they see my sexy ass perched on
a barstool, it gets their rocks going. At the end
of senior year at Bellevue High School, people told me
I'd easily win the unofficial Girl with the Hottest Ass award.

(07:48):
Not to toot my own horn, but they weren't wrong.
Even when I got out of that shit town and
went on to higher education, I still had all kinds
of guy hitting on me, likely after checking out my ass. Okay,
a bar is definitely no place for someone like me,

(08:10):
But when I want a beer, I want a goddamn beer,
and I should be allowed to sit my hot ass
wherever I want without being bothered. I'm drinking my goddamn
beer when this guy with his arm candy is hitting
on me. Oh, he's really bold. When he grabs two

(08:30):
handfuls of surgically enhanced tits from behind me and says
into my ear how he'd really appreciate me. Then he
gives my fun bags another gentle squeeze when he feels
me moved. I slowly turn around with my beer in hand.

(08:51):
Any other time I'd have thrown my beer right in
someone's face for touching me like that. And that's just
the start the fish come. Next problem is Shakers has
my favorite beer on tap here o'hanlan's Irish lagger. He'd
be ashamed to waste such an excellent beer. I actually

(09:15):
let this Don Juan take me with him. The bouncer
stops me and says I can't take my beer outside,
so I chug it and hand over the mug. Then
I let out a long, satisfying belch. Even then, Don
Juan seems to still want me. Once we reach the

(09:38):
suite at Strickfield In it doesn't take long for us
to get naked. The two arm candies are watching us
doing some serious fucking on the bed. He can't keep
his hands off of my ass as I'm riding him
like a bitch in heat. Suddenly the door bursts open

(09:59):
and a want team rushes in. Two of them pull
my naked ass off of Don Juan. As a Strickfield
detective enters, don Juan is yelling in some language I
really don't recognize it. Sure ain't Spanish, since I do
speak that. Hey, what the hell? I shout at the

(10:21):
cops as they start to arrest me. Don't I even
get to get dressed first? Shit? The detective tells them
to let me go. I want to talk to her alone.
He points to the two arm candies. You can take
them away. Once it's just the detective and naked me.

(10:45):
He closes the door and faces me. You can get
dressed now, Miranda. I laugh and give him a good
look at me. What's the matter, Detective Kasmarak? Do I
make make you nervous? I purr while sliding my thong

(11:05):
back on. Kasmarak sits at the desk and faces me.
I retrieve the camera I hid in the lampshade by
the bed, and hand over the micro cassette more than
it missible in court. Dear sir, enough there to convict
de Louis de Marco for good. I knew exactly who

(11:28):
don Juan was, and Kasmarak knows exactly who I am
and what I do. For the record, I ain't no hooker,
and I didn't record De Marco and me fucking on

(11:49):
the bed. I only hid the recorder there. Very very
long story short. DeMarco took us bitches to his pad
for after some drinks. Right in front of us, he
pulls out his gun and kills one of his henchmen
for skimming off the top. Those were his words. It's

(12:13):
all on tape. I also slipped into his office and
recorded his books. There's enough on that micro cassette to
send DeMarco's ass to prison for life, hell for multiple lives.
Kasmarak eyes my nearly naked body. Seriously, Miranda, why do

(12:35):
you do it? Why do you risk your life for stories?
Allow me to introduce myself. I am Miranda Mason Phillips,
Ace reporter for the Strickfield Journal. People all over Feldner
County and even in Eerie City and Shore City know
my name. I've been on The Tonight Show and Sixty

(12:59):
Minutes for some of the huge cases I've busted open,
and De Louis de Marco is one of the biggest
stories I've bagged. Yet. It doesn't take a rocket scientist
to figure out if you want to make it big
in this business, you gotta be willing to do absolutely
anything to both get the big stories and remain relevant.

(13:25):
You do that by taking the most serious of risks,
including sleeping with a crime lord over and over again.
In other words, this ain't the first time I used
my body as a weapon. Hell, I even shot up heroin,
snorted coke, and popped ecstasy while going under cover just

(13:48):
to get headlines withdrawls can be hell, but it comes
with the job. Other newspapers have been offering me big
contracts and incentives to get me to come work for him,
but this little village newspaper continues to keep me rolling
in dough and benefits. Also, my editor doesn't give me

(14:11):
any shit, not when Miranda Mason Phillips sells a shitload
of papers. And on top of that, Strickfield's got major
headlines flowing out of fountains here. For one thing, there's
actually this giant Lady Spider, a creature with a human
female's upper body and a spider's entire lower I proved

(14:35):
she was real when I snapped multiple pictures of her.
When my editor first wanted me to get those pictures,
I said he was full of shit when he talked money. However,
I went out and brought home the picks. Now what's
going on with me? In Detective Kasmarak? Well, no, I
ain't sleeping with him, but I sure wouldn't be opposed

(14:58):
to it. Shortly after he transferred here from Erie City,
he busted me when I went under cover and an
illegal pornography ring. Months later, he busted me again, thinking
I was a prostitute at Strickfield University when a big
drug bust went down. My editor vouched for me. Both times,

(15:19):
Kasmarak and I got into some huge arguments. He loved
saying I was interfering in police business. I kept shoving
the First Amendment in his face. When he threatened to
arrest me again, I dared him to. Eventually we started
working together. Now him arresting me is his way of

(15:41):
getting me to safety so I can give him crucial evidence.
Much like just now. He gets credit for the arrest,
and I get the top story in the Strickfield Journal
and any other papers that negotiate with mine to syndicate
my stories. Why do you do it, Miranda, Kasmarak asks

(16:03):
me again. I give him my wicked smile because I
ain't got nothing else better to do. He shakes his
head slowly as I finish getting dressed. When the coast
is clear, Kasmarak drives me into downtown village to the
home office. When I get out of the car, I

(16:25):
close the door and lean in the window until next time.
Detective I purr. He sighs and shakes his head slowly.
I back away from the car and head inside the
Strickfield Journal just as it starts to snow. My editor,

(16:45):
Josh Callers, sitting behind his desk. The look on his
face says he's expecting something from me. I pull out
my smartphone and remove the micro SD card. After I
give it to him, he loads it up and looks
my shit over. Yes, yes, good, Hell, yes, he looks

(17:07):
at me now. Yeah. He may be my boss, but
he treats me like a real friend. Why do you
do it, Miranda. You're good enough to be the top
newshound for USA Today or any paper you want, and
here you are still working for a little village rag
like mine. He quickly holds up his hands. Believe me.

(17:31):
I appreciate everything you do for my little paper. Hell,
I was just printing village news before you came along,
wanting a job, saying you had to start somewhere. So
I take a chance on you, give you a job,
and what do you do. You turn my little village
paper into the biggest goddamn newspaper in the state of Ohio. Hell,

(17:55):
we're shipping lots of papers to Erie City and Shore
City and even outside of the state. Why me, Miranda
suddenly the phone rings, Josh quickly answers it. Yeah, yeah,
what's that you say? Are you serious? No, I'll get

(18:15):
my ACE reporter over their stat Josh slams the phone
down and looks at me. Get that sexy ass of
yours on the roof. Ernie's gonna fly you to Shore City.
There's some mechanical monster running rampant there, and I want
that story. I squeal like I just lost my cherry

(18:40):
and haul ass to the roof Ernie Smith, our resident
helicopter pilots waiting and ready to fly me wherever the
boss says to even on Christmas Eve, and with snow
coming down fast like he said, the paper has grown
a lot since I joined the staff. Ernie's already getting

(19:01):
the machine warmed up, and soon he's taking us up
and on our way to Shore City. With all the
amazing stories I get, you'd think my shit would be
in the supermarket tabloids, right, Hell no, what I find
is real. But you know what I always wanted since

(19:22):
becoming an ACE reporter, I want the story the Holy Grail.
I want to discover something so goddamn amazing it'll be
my crowning achievement, my Swan song my life's work. Remember
I was the first reporter to uncover the mutant spider Chick.

(19:43):
I snapped a picture of a teenage girl flying on clear,
glowing discs at Strickfield Town Center Mall not too long ago.
If there's those two, then there have to be others.
Believe me. I know I did plenty of drugs for
the sake of getting headlines, but I promise you I
ain't out of my gord. Seeing all that tells me

(20:06):
there's something more out there, and I want to know
what it is so badly. What is it that makes
mutant spider chicks real? What gave that teenage girl the
ability to fly around on red discs made of light?
And then there's all the other weird shit I've discovered.

(20:28):
Like I said, Strickfield's got stories flowing out of fountains.
I'm beyond excited when Ernie's getting me ever so closer
to Shore City. You know how many times I've scooped
other reporters who were too chicken shit to do what
I do. Call me a braggart. I don't give a shit,

(20:49):
but I can back up everything I say, and I'm
willing to do whatever it takes to get stories, even
if it means my sexy ass I am Miranda Mason Phillips.
God damn it, perspective, Candace, I bite into yet another

(21:10):
green apple. How many of these delicious delicacies have I
eaten since coming to call both Earth and the village
of Strickfield my home. Ever since Luscious and Norma Redmont
discovered me back in eighteen twenty two and shared their
home with me, my life took a completely different turn.

(21:35):
I felt so lonely. Even after being the sole survivor
against hell Weaver in the Battleguard's last stand, I felt
great pain at having lost all of my allies to
that demon mother that day. In all probability, I should
have died with them. I gave it all I had

(21:58):
to wreck her reality sphere, banishing her to the hellish
dimension of Perdition and me into whatever universe or reality
this is. I've tried time and time again to either
find a suitable substitute or the actual element of peritonium

(22:20):
with which I can repair my wrist comp and return
to Universe zero. Unfortunately, my efforts have been unsuccessful. I've
been stranded on Earth for more than two hundred of
its years. During my time, I remained with Lucius and
Norma Redmont for my keep. I would learn their trade

(22:43):
of farming apple orchards. When I tasted my first apple,
it literally brought me to my knees. Even today, I've
never grown tired of eating them, baking pies from them,
or drinking their juice. I came to be a part
of the Redmont family when I allowed myself to be

(23:06):
joined with Lucius in both our emotional bond of being
beloved and in his world ceremonial ritual called marriage. I
swore never to allow myself to become beloved with another
after my ninth in the Hulky was slain by hell
Weaver herself. Unfortunately, a contrast such as myself has no say.

(23:34):
It's as if my chemistry can sense others close to me,
If it determines a suitable match for the both of us,
then we become pared as beloved. This is as close
to a scientific explanation as I can come. Being a
part of my beloved pairings has given me such joy

(23:57):
in so many wonderful ways. In my many years in existence,
I have been beloved with seven males and three females.
The worst thing about being beloved with another is that
I've lost every single one in death. Once the connection

(24:17):
is severed, I feel the immense emotional pain. It hurts
me even more than physical pain in many instances. My
most recent loss was Lucius Redmont. I remained with him
as both beloved and his wife until his life force

(24:38):
had burned itself to its end in old age. I've
lived many lifetimes compared to the people of Earth. I
hate that this world's people grow old and die. Then again,
this kind of thing happened on a similar world in
Universe zero called Third World. I've been to many different

(25:03):
worlds where their peoples don't experience what is called aging.
Lucius's death was the most painful one yet. I was
an intense suffering for many Earth years before I finally
started to heal. I've never healed completely from losing any

(25:24):
of my beloved. Lucius was so kind and compassionate. He
was entrusted to care for his younger sister, Norma after
their parents had died. Norma came to be a great
friend and a sister, and her death hurt me deeply

(25:45):
as well. But Lucius and I became beloved upon his death.
I remained here at Redmont's orchards for a great many
years in solitude, never aging, and caring for these apple
trees left to me. You can call me a coward

(26:07):
for not choosing to venture out into this world again.
I just don't want to become entangled in the bindings
of being beloved again. I just can't bear to lose
another in death. I'll admit I am very lonely, but

(26:32):
I'd rather remain in solitude and tending to these orchards
than become beloved with another and feel that intense pain
again upon their death. I stay busy by keeping these
trees healthy so they may bear their abundance of delicious apples.

(26:56):
I keep enough of them to enjoy while I sell
the others in season. The autumnal months are the one
occasion I must risk interacting with earth people. I need
to keep making money to keep these orchards bearing fruit.
I myself don't need to eat. I have my very heart,

(27:19):
which is both the source of my sustenance and of
all of my incredible powers. It's Christmas Eve and it's snowing.
Just seeing this beautiful white stuff coming down makes me
love this time of the year. It was also a

(27:41):
snowy world many years ago that caused me to become
the being I am today. I'll have to tell you
my full origin story when there's time. After pouring myself
some cider, I sit in front of the television and

(28:02):
activated to look for more Christmas specials and movies to watch.
I immediately stop changing channels when I see a special
report coming from Shore City. There's some large mechanical being
walking around and creating chaos. I've lived in isolation for

(28:27):
many years. It's true there have been reports of criminal
activities such as murder and theft. I've often wondered if
I could have made a difference with my great powers.
Then I remember the pains of losing each beloved and withdraw.

(28:49):
This is why I don't blame you for calling me
a coward, perhaps also selfish. I want to change the channel,
but I just can't. That mechanical monster is creating devastation
on the streets of Shore City. Far too many innocent

(29:12):
lives could be lost if this isn't stopped. I have
the power to both combat that monstrosity and to stop it.
I no longer have a choice. I've lived in isolation
for many years. Though I knew it couldn't last forever.

(29:34):
That day has ultimately caught up to me. At long last,
Blue Girl must return after all of these years, I
stand up and turn off the television. I move into
my bedroom that I once occupied with Lucius as his wife.

(29:55):
I find my wrist comp and apply it. It activates
an transforms my clothing into a totally new costume. Blue
boots nearly touching my knees, a full body suit transitioning
from the darkest blue to the snowiest white from the

(30:15):
center to the sides, gloves matching my boots, and a
purple vest that's open, and a mask covering the majority
of my face. Only my shimmering blue hair, my sepheric eyes,
and my mouth are visible. For a brief moment, my

(30:38):
anxiety forces me to stand still. I really don't want
to leave the safety of these grounds. Then I remember
what Shore City is faced with, and no, I can't
be selfish any longer. I've mourned long enough. For the

(30:59):
first time in many earth years, I speed forth from
the Redmont apple orchards and race to Shore City. Thanks
to my super speed, I can get there in a
matter of seconds. Seeing how fast I move, it's like
nothing has changed. My powers haven't diminished in the slightest

(31:23):
I'm still the fastest one there is period. Soon i'm
crossing one of the many suspension bridges to enter Shore City.
I finally come to a stop when I see the
mechanical being. I also see another costumed female attempting to

(31:45):
fight that thing on her own. I've seen her in
action on the television before the Jeweler. I don't know
if this costumed hero has superpowers or not. I know
she uses many forms of likely modified jewelry as weapons,

(32:07):
hence her name. I'm thinking that she's just a human,
but she's quite trained as both a fighter and an athlete.
She's able to keep that metal monster from grabbing her
as she tries using her jeweled weapons against it. When
the Jeweler lands on her feet, both she and the

(32:30):
machine see me standing not too far away. Seeing the
look on the Jeweler, she doesn't know who I am,
but she doesn't waste any time breaking the ice with me.
No pun intended, new girl. If you're able to help,
I could sure use it. After hearing the Jeweler, the

(32:54):
machine raises its hands and makes blue fire appear. But
two can play at that game. The only difference is
this machine's fire can hurt me if I let it
touch my skin. Mine is a cold fire. I nod
to the Jeweler. We are allies. Then I glare at

(33:17):
the machine and show it my own blue fire. The
Jeweler soon comes to my side. From there, the two
of us make a quick plan perspective Miranda. After Ernie
lands the chopper, I don't waste any time and haul

(33:39):
ass to where the action is right away. I'm seeing
this big red mechanical thing moving around in the middle
of the snow covered street. It definitely left a trail
of destruction behind, including the police cars that thing blew up.
I have no idea what the casualties are. Now I'm

(34:00):
seeing that thing staring down two chicks. They're wearing Halloween costumes.
Then I see the hair on one of them is blue.
Where did she get that fiber optic wig she's wearing.
Then there's the other one wearing a catsuit decked out
in jewels. She's the vigilante known as the Jeweler. I've

(34:25):
been following her story for years. You'll learn more on
that later. Suddenly, the monster machine raises its arms and
fires a mini rocket at a nearby apartment building, one
full of innocent people in their homes on Christmas Eve.

(34:47):
When the building starts crumbling, the blue haired chick suddenly
takes my breath away. She moves at the most incredible
speed I've ever seen, leaving a trail of neon blue
light behind her. Now she's bringing people out of the
building two at a time, putting them down by the police,
then running back in to get more. This is it.

(35:11):
This is the amazing phenomenon I've been looking for since
I became a reporter. There's no way that blue Chick
is from Earth. I'll bet my life on it. Josh
is probably shitting bricks back in Strickfield watching the footage
I'm live streaming to him. As expected, not a single
other reporter is here. They don't want to risk their

(35:35):
asses over this thing. The Blue Chick keeps bringing out
more and more people. Finally, the building finishes collapsing just
as she's bringing out two more. She places them with
the others. I didn't see any others inside. Are you
all out here? Everyone looks at one another, Then a

(35:58):
mother yells to the Blue Chick that her daughter is
missing and to check the basement apartments. The Blue Chick
doesn't waste any time and runs back inside. She must
have gotten into the basement, meaning the rubble hadn't fully
collapsed it. The mother's really scared now. Then she cries
out for joy when the speedster returns with the little

(36:23):
girl in her arms, looks like she's okay. When the
Blue Hero confirms everybody safe and accounted for, she goes
back to helping the Jeweler fight that thing. Speaking of
the Jeweler, she's hauling ass away from that monster after
she attached some jewels to its leg. When she's far

(36:44):
enough away, she reveals a device and touches the screen.
The jewels blow up and cause the monster to rock,
but only a little. The Blue Chick lowers herself to
one knee, puts her fist on the road, and oh
my God, turns the snow into a glistening sheet of ice,

(37:06):
which goes right underneath the monster's feet. She gets back
up and miraculously makes piles of snowballs appear on either
side of her. Then, with incredible speed, she picks them
up and goes all rapid fire on that thing. The
snowballs hit the monster with a lot of noise. Those

(37:28):
aren't just snowballs. They gotta be packed with ice or something.
Then the jeweler moves and climbs up the thing's back.
She sticks something inside the neck area more explosives. The
thing tries to reach for her, but finds itself slipping
and falling to the street. The jeweler gets away as

(37:51):
the thing makes a big loud thud. How's this for
being a real pain in the neck, the jeweler yells.
Then she detonates the bombs she placed there. After the explosion,
that thing crackles with a shit ton of electricity. Now
that blue chick is right there, you might want to

(38:13):
stand back, she says. The jeweler doesn't argue and gets back.
The blue Chick puts her hands on the head of
the mechanical giant and is making herself shake super fast,
causing the monster's head to vibrate until it falls away
from the body. The blue chick stops vibrating. Well, I'll

(38:35):
be damned, there's two other chicks inside that thing, probably
piloting it or something. The heroes grab each one and
quickly lay them out. Look out, there's one more, the
jeweler tells her blue friend. A third one comes out
with this high tech rifle in her hands. Go to hell,

(38:57):
she yells at the heroes. Then she has this demented
grin on her face and turns her weapon on the police.
Die you, inferior cretans. The Blue Chick shows how incredibly
fast she is by moving in front of the blast
and making the most reflective ice mirror I have ever seen.

(39:22):
The blast hits the mirror and goes back to the gun,
causing it to explode. The bitch goes down, but she's
not out. She pulls out a remote control of her
own and presses it. Suddenly, what's left of that mechanical
giant explodes. That's when this jewel the size of a

(39:44):
golf ball hits her right between the eyes and dazes her.
The jewel immediately returns to its owner. The Blue Chick
runs again, using her super speed and ice powers to
keep the debris from hitting any I'm going on record
and saying she is not human. I've seen things like vampires, werewolves,

(40:09):
and other monsters. Not to mention that teenage girl flying
on discs of red light at the mall. But this
blue woman, God, my heart is really pounding. And if
things aren't bad enough already, the heads of two of
those three chicks suddenly explode. The cops that were taking

(40:32):
them to squad cars are covered in blood and brains. No,
the girl who detonated the monster yells, hurry up, detonate
my bomb, hurry up, But her bomb never goes off.
She's screaming all kinds of shit as the police put

(40:52):
her in the back of a wagon and slam the
door shut. The Jeweler quickly smacks the Blue heroes for
let's get the hell out of here before the police
think to arrest us. They don't exactly take too kindly
to vigilantes here in Shore City. The Blue Chick lifts
the Jeweler into her arms and speeds away. Well, you

(41:16):
know what, I don't care how fast you are, speedster,
even you ain't getting away from me. In fact, I
ain't stop until I track you down and learn just
who you are. I have to Miranda Mason Phillips isn't
a household name in journalism for nothing. You Blue Chick

(41:39):
are gonna be my next big story. I'm gonna make
an even bigger name for myself by the time I'm
through exposing you. In fact, I just figured out how
to track you. See, I'm not just a pretty face.
I also have a reputation for being a detective. In fact,

(42:00):
it's in my job title investigative, reporter and now alien.
I am so coming for you perspective Blue Girl. When
the Jeweler and I are safe enough, I set her

(42:20):
on her feet. She raises an eyebrow. Her face is
concealed by a similar mask to mine. I've never seen
you before tonight. I've been out of action for several years.
I reply, I'd rather not go into my life story.
She nods once. I can respect that, especially since we

(42:44):
really don't know each other at all. She quickly changes
the suspect. You've really got some incredible powers. What's your name,
Blue Girl, I reveal, and I already I know you
are the Jeweler, she smiles. We worked pretty well together

(43:06):
taking that thing down. In case you don't know, those
little girls we stopped are part of some secret society
called the Blue Ribbons. You can always tell one of
them by their tattoos, a figure eight like a breast
cancer ribbon, except it's all blue. Anyway, Those blue ribbons

(43:27):
have been making life hell for the people of Shore
City for some time. I don't know their whole story,
but I have a feeling something huge is in the
works with them. When I nod once, she continues, Normally
there'd be more of us out here, but the others
are out on missions elsewhere. Right now, there's only four

(43:49):
of us in our new group. We're called the Final Defense.
She raises her eyebrow again. You know, we could definitely
use someone like you. I slightly raise my hand and
shake my head slowly. I'm sorry, but I can't. I
appreciate the offer, but I've got problems of my own.

(44:13):
Before the jeweler can persist, I turn and speed away.
I don't go too far. When I feel my grief
overcoming me again, I stop and remove my mask. Even
after these many years of solitude, the pain of losing
Lucius still surprises me, and it grips me tenaciously. I

(44:37):
fall to my knees and sob. I hate being so
alone in whatever this universe is. I am truly alone.
Ever since I came to be marooned here, I've been
separated from my family as a whole. I made a
new one with Lucius and Norma. Loss of Norma was

(45:01):
easier to deal with since she was not beloved but Lucius.
In the past, I've had to deal with the loss
of every beloved in this way. With the previous nine,
I would throw myself into my work to cope with
the pain. It's not so easy with Lucius's loss. Perhaps

(45:25):
it was because Lucius didn't live as long as the
others before him. I came back out into the world
again to help the jeweler, but I can't remain among
these humans. After my pain subsides, I collect myself and
return to my feet. It's then when I feel I

(45:48):
no longer have solitude. I turn and see, Oh no,
Why does it have to be her? Is that the
reporter from Strickfield, Miranda Mason Phillips. She has a smartphone
in her hand and she's recording me with my mask off.

(46:12):
Damn it. It had to have been those blue ribbons
and their mechanical monster that brought her here. You are
truly amazing, Mason Phillip's gushes. Of course, I would have
never imagined you were Candae Redmont, owner of Redmont's Orchards.

(46:35):
I turn and boldly stand toward her. What do you want? Human?
She laughs a little. Oh, I already got what I want?
And then some she lowers her phone. I can literally
feel her elevated excitement. I want your story, blue girl?

(46:58):
Or do I just call you Candice? Her eyes are
wide open when she sees I now have her phone.
How did you? Oh, that's right, you got super speed.
She laughs a little. You could destroy my phone, but
it won't keep your secret identity from being revealed. See

(47:22):
it's already in that little thing called the cloud. Even
you aren't fast enough to determine which servers the video
might be on. What do you want? I insist, I've
never felt such excitement in a human. I'll tell you what.

(47:43):
If you give me your life story, I'll consider deleting
the footage on Earth we call it. You've got to
give to get. She sees an opaque wall forming behind me.
She looks over her should to see one now forming
behind her. Do you really think you can blackmail me? Human?

(48:09):
Even if you were to reveal my current secret identity,
I can always create new ones. I narrow my eyes
on her. I can even put you on ice. You
wouldn't die, Just be carefully preserved. I grab hold of her.

(48:32):
I could even run with you on my shoulder. The
velocity would ultimately kill you, since you would freeze and
then fall apart. I know normally you're supposed to burn up,
but velocity works quite the opposite with me. But Mason
Phillips is anything but scared. You won't kill me. I

(48:56):
can see it on you. You'll have to do better
than threaten my life. I back up and pass through
an ice wall. I can simply leave you in here.
Then there's nowhere for you to run. The reporter's expression
says she knows I have her, but she's not backing down.

(49:23):
I know you're an alien. You're the story I've searched
for my entire life. I just want to know you,
blue girl. Please don't turn your back on me. She
tightens her jaw. I know you won't kill me. You're
not a murderer. I roll my eyes as you say,

(49:46):
on earth whatever, I turn and walk away in truth.
Once I've gone far enough, the ice walls will become
unstable and disappear, since I'm not close enough to maintain them.
I just want to get away from this reporter. Come on,

(50:10):
don't don't leave me like this. I'm serious, she calls out.
I just want to know you. Come with you. Please,
don't don't crush me like this. Come on, I stop
and remove the walls soon. Mason Phillips attaches herself to

(50:31):
me again. Go home. I tell her you've got no
story with me. You will not be able to make
revealing my secret identity stick. For the record, Candace Redmont
is not even my real name. I put my mask

(50:51):
back on. Now leave me be. I have my own
problems to deal with without you adding to them. Then
Mason Phillips snatches my wrist. Fortunately for her, my insulated
costume keeps her hand from getting very very cold. With

(51:14):
my skin fully exposed, the temperature is easily twenty degrees
fahrenheit to the touch. I'll give you something and then
you'll let me come with you. Now, the reporter gives
me something that changes everything. I heard you and the

(51:35):
jeweler talking about the blue ribbons. I know exactly where
those crazy bitches are hiding out here in Shore City.
I raise an eyebrow, So what exactly do you want
from me? Her emotions are elevated higher still. I told

(51:56):
you I want your story I want to be your friend.
You're amazing. I know you're up. What the now her
wrists have suddenly been shackled too busy running your mouth, reporter,
the jeweler says with a smirk, How did you find us?

(52:19):
I ask her. The jeweler chuckles and reaches behind my
ear with this, I planted a micro transmitter on you.
I wanted to find you and convince you to join
the team. I know you said you've got your own problems,
but who doesn't I know, I sure do. The jeweler

(52:40):
turns to Mason Phillips. Now, I believe you were saying
you know something about the location of the Blue Ribbons
layer here in Shore City. The reporter shakes her head slowly.
Go to hell, I ain't giving you shit with me.
You don't get something for nothing. That's the way the

(53:03):
world we live in works. Fine, the jeweler answers. Mason
Phillips smiles big. Now, since it's going to be us
three working together, I'll gladly share what I know. What
do you mean us three? Reporter Jeweler mutters, Blue girl

(53:24):
and I have powers and skills. What exactly do you have?
She scoffs now how do you think Miranda Mason Phillips
became a household name. Huh, She quickly raises her finger.
I'm constantly risking my ass out here for my headlines.

(53:45):
I ain't afraid of anything. I laugh in the face
of death over and over again, just to get my stories.
She tightens her jaw and glares at the jeweler. Face it,
super bitch, you need me come on, quid pro quo,
Hugh Ladies, scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. You

(54:08):
get the idea. The jeweler and I give each other
an uneasy look. But the greater good will win with
me today, forcing me to put my grief behind for
the time being. Taking down those Blue Ribbons would mean
saving countless lives. I already showed I still cared by

(54:32):
coming here in the first place. Looks like we're allies again,
blue girl. The jeweler says, very well, let's do this.
I agree, And it looks like this overly excited reporter
is also our ally for the time being. The fifth Precinct,

(54:58):
Shore City, the arrested Blue Ribbon was placed in a
jail cell after she was forced to change into a jumpsuit.
The young woman refused to say anything when she was apprehended.
Her superiors had taught her to obey the first part
of the miranda warning, a key teaching as she was

(55:20):
assimilated into the secret society bent on world domination. When
the police saw her, they likely determined that she just
wouldn't talk. While that was part of it, the real
reason she was aggressively upset was the bomb failing to
detonate in her head. She knew it would be only

(55:43):
a matter of time before methods would be utilized to
make her reveal her secret societies, very secrets she most
certainly didn't want to betray her sisters. She remained in
her cell for a time before she would finally have
a visitor. It would be a woman, but not any

(56:05):
of her fellow Blue Ribbons. The prisoner couldn't believe her
eyes when she saw the figure was horned and wearing
a metallic outfit that covered her large breasts and her bottom.
What really got the prisoner's attention were her great wings.

(56:27):
The prisoner still refused to speak, even though she was horrified.
Do not worry, mortal, I am not here to harm you,
the being said, I am here to perhaps be your salvation? Who? Who? Who?

(56:49):
Or what are you? The prisoner finally spoke, trembling. I
am hell Weaver, and I can free you from your prison.

(57:10):
I can do more than just that. I can give
you power. The reason you are inside that cell is
because the device implanted within your head failed to detonate.
You would truly die for these women, whom you call

(57:31):
your sisters. Suppose they were to come for you, do
you believe they would take you back into their ranks
or do you feel they would end your life believing
that you have disclosed valuable information to the authorities. The

(57:52):
prisoner sat down on her cot Okay, what you would
just open this cell and let me out? What's it
going to cost me my soul? Come on, I ain't
stupid your servitude. I shall grant you your release and

(58:13):
the power to avenge yourself. In return, you shall serve
me as I wish. Of course, you are not obligated
to accept my offer. Upon my departure. You shall remain
in here until such time. The prisoner was indeed interested.

(58:36):
Now you say you'll give me power? What kind of
power are we talking about here? What sort of power
do you desire? Enlighten me? The prisoner stood up and
went to the door. I'm so sick and tired of

(58:57):
being scared all the time. I want the power to
literally scare the living shit out of people. I hate
always having to fear authority. I want authority to fear me.
I want everyone to fear me the way they make
me fear. I want them to have horrible nightmares about

(59:21):
me whenever they sleep at night. I see, I can
indeed grant you the very power that you seek. And
to prove that to you, hell Weaver suddenly reached inside
the cell and put her index finger and thumb to

(59:43):
the prisoner's head. She cried out for a brief moment
before hell Weaver withdrew her hand. The demonic goddess now
held a microscopic device. I believe this is failed device
that once resided within you, the explosive as you now witness,

(01:00:09):
I have removed it. Your will is your own again.
Now I give you the choice of either remaining here
in your cell and being at the mercy of the
authorities here, perhaps even your fellow Blue Ribbon sisters, or

(01:00:32):
you may accept my offer of freedom and power. All
that I ask is for your servitude. What is your answer.
The prisoner looked hell Weaver in the eyes. If you
can give me everything I want, then I'll gladly switch

(01:00:56):
sides and join up with you. Splendid, hell Weaver replied.
The demonic goddess easily broke the lock on her cell.
Once the former prisoner stepped out, Hell Weaver took her hands.
Now I shall grant to you the power that I

(01:01:18):
have promised. Hell Weaver transferred an enormous charge of power
directly into her new servant. Do not resist me, child,
Accept the power that I am giving you. Allow it
to flow throughout your body. Allow my power to transform

(01:01:42):
you into that for which you've always wanted. Relinquish your
humanity and surrender yourself to the power. Surrender yourself to me.
The former Blue Ribbon felt self transforming into something far

(01:02:03):
more than any advanced bioweapon her former secret society could
have created. She moaned as hell Weaver continued to infuse
her with power. Her clothes tore and flew away from
her body as it was transformed into what the former

(01:02:23):
mortal envisioned. When hell Weaver was finally finished, the new
creation looked over herself. She was fully nude, except now
she had missed. Covering her breasts and bottom. She turned
and looked into the mirror above the sink in what

(01:02:46):
was at one time her cell to get a glimpse
of her face. She still retained her beauty, but at
the same time, she knew she would be feared now.
She turned to face her new goddess. What do you

(01:03:10):
want me to do, the creature asked in her new
childlike voice. First, I shall give you a new name.
From this moment on, you shall be fear For now

(01:03:31):
you control the very emotion that is your namesake. Your
limits are only your very imagination or of those who
would be unfortunate enough to cross you. Fear smiled. Now
I'd like to test my new power, Hell Weaver smiled back.

(01:03:56):
By all means, The goddess stepped aside to let the dark,
bluish humanoid with the luminescent yellow eyes exit the jail.
Fear found she didn't have to open the door as
a human would. She simply passed right through it. Hell

(01:04:20):
Weaver stood by and watched as the police beheld her
newest creation. Fear me, the creature said, simply. Suddenly many
of the police were becoming terrified. Hell Weaver knew that
Fear was causing their greatest nightmares to come to life

(01:04:44):
in their own minds. The only difference was that Fear's
victims could literally see their greatest phobias and anxieties in
the real world. Fear watched the horror she had had
created with her new power and smiled with satisfaction. She

(01:05:06):
gasped when the mortals were unholstering their weapons and shooting
at their worst fears, except they were actually shooting and
killing each other. A few of the mortals had dropped
dead from an overdose of fear. Fear glided across the

(01:05:28):
floor and finished off the rest of them. Then she
turned to her new goddess. Yes, this is exactly what
I want, all right. What do you want me to do?

(01:05:53):
Hell Weaver smiled. My first command is for you to
simply return to the those two heroes who put you here.
I want you to instill the fear you now command
into them. When it comes to the mortal known as
the Jeweler, do with her what you will. She raised

(01:06:17):
a claw like finger. However, I do not want Blue
Girl dead. Simply grant under her as much fear as
you wish, nothing more. Do I make myself clear, child,
Fear looked disappointed. I'd like nothing better than to kill

(01:06:42):
Blue Girl. She looked at her transformed body once more.
But you were here for me. You made sure the
Blue Ribbons can't ever have me again. All right, Hell Weaver,
I won't kill Blue Girl, But why would you spare her?

(01:07:06):
It sounds to me like there's more to it than that.
When the time comes, you shall know. For now, I
want you to go and play with your new powers
and bring those heroes to their knees. Fear sneered and

(01:07:27):
her eyes sparkled with pleasure. Hell Weaver watched as her
newest creation floated across the station and out through the
double doors. She knew that the heroes would have their
hands full perspective, Miranda, I'm with Blue Girl and the Jeweler.

(01:07:56):
Who'd have thought we'd be walking around down here in
the system. I told them I knew a way to
get inside the Blue Ribbons compound through here. I got
the feeling they're getting impatient with me after we make
some interesting turns. Hell, it takes us almost twenty minutes

(01:08:16):
to get to that one particular door, unlike the many
others we've passed. This one has an advanced security system
on it. This is it, I tell them. I saw
a couple of the Blue Ribbons go in here a
few months ago. While I am a very good investigator,

(01:08:38):
I'm not tech savvy enough to crack a sophisticated lock
like this one. I'll handle this, blue girl says, raising
her left wrist. She has this thing on it that
she's working like an advanced personal supercomputer. Got it? I
gasp when I hear a beeping sound and the door unlocks.

(01:09:03):
The heroes look at each other as if knowing we
could be potentially walking into a trap. Before we discuss
a plan, this thing suddenly appears right behind us. She's
floating as she puts a hand on each of the
hero's heads. Two beautiful dollies for Christmas. To start my collection,

(01:09:27):
the creature says, talking like a little girl. Now let's
see what my newest toys most fear. Oh shit, I
shriek and fall to my knees. Now the heroes are
on theirs. Whatever this this thing is has them under

(01:09:49):
her spell. She's a naked woman with navy blue skin
and black hair and two glowing yellow eyes. She has
cloud codes billowing around her to provide her some modesty.
She's also got this evil, demented smile. Shit. I have

(01:10:11):
never been so scared in my entire life. Ever since
this freak showed up, I feel I feel so cold,
like during winter nights back in Bellevue when I was
homeless as a little girl. Now the creature looks right
at me. You're just a cheap dollar store dolly. I

(01:10:32):
don't want you. I want these two leave before you
die from that which you fear most. I am so
unbelievably scared, but I make myself get up to get
away from that thing. Once I'm at a safe distance,

(01:10:53):
I'm trying to get a better vantage point. The eyes
on both heroes are plain white. Now, whatever that thing
is doing to them, she's really got them under her spell.
M Yes, I'm loving my new powers. Now, my new
dollies show fear what scares you the most. Then she

(01:11:18):
can use your fears to destroy you. I know I
like to brag that I'm a total bitch, but I
ain't leaving them at the mercy of that thing. They're
superheroes for Christ's sake. Plus, I need Blue Girl's story.
I'm feeling better now that Fear is not concentrating on me.

(01:11:42):
Problem is that I can't get too close to her.
I'm still taking deep breaths. Christ I even pissed myself. Okay,
maybe I'm still too close to fear. If I can't
come up with some kind of plan, I'm just gonna
have to throw myself at her. All right, Calm down, Miranda,

(01:12:06):
think this one through perspective, Blue girl, Where am I?
When everything starts to come into perspective, I'm seeing my
home back in Strickfield. The scenery tells me it's Christmas Day.

(01:12:29):
I'm indulging in yet another apple when I feel my
beloved wrap his arms around me. There you are again,
eating more apples, Lucius says, squeezing me lovingly. He knows
how cold my body is, yet he never hesitates to

(01:12:52):
touch me. He knows I'm not of this world, and
he doesn't fear me in the least. I put my
apple down and turned to face him. The two of
us share an intimate kiss. I've come to learn about

(01:13:12):
this earth holiday known as Christmas through Lucius and Norma.
I remember this point in my life so clearly. It's
eighteen thirty four, and it's our first Christmas as both
beloved and as husband and wife. I had been with

(01:13:37):
many different species as beloved, but none of them were
as unique as Lucius. For a human male. He truly
understood what it meant to have me in his life.
He truly loved and cherished me, never seeking to exploit

(01:13:59):
me any way. Yet, why do I feel something is
terribly wrong here? I did not wish to ever become
beloved with another after my loss of Hulky to hell Weaver.

(01:14:26):
The feeling is most wonderful when you are beloved with another,
but when that connection is severed, the feedback hurts greatly.
I had expressed this concern with Lucius when I felt
we were forging our bonds. I knew I would not

(01:14:46):
have too many years with him. I was completely honest
about everything. Still he didn't care. On Christmas of eighteen
thirty four, he had told me he didn't really have
money in order to buy Norma and I gifts due

(01:15:07):
to a bad crop that year. I didn't care. I
was always grateful that the two of them had not
judged me upon first seeing me, even knowing that I
was an alien. They took me into their home and
gave me shelter on what was a completely new world.

(01:15:29):
In return, I worked for them and let them teach
me the ways of their orchards. I told Lucius that
my family here was the greatest gift I had ever received.
Even though I loved my new husband, I was always
in great fear at knowing one day I would lose him.

(01:15:53):
And that was when things took a turn for the worst.
Norma appeared, but she wasn't herself. She and Lucius had
both transformed into these unspeakable creatures. Something was horribly wrong.

(01:16:14):
Why am I experiencing this particular Christmas again? But in
this way? Then those things speak as one voice? How
dare you continue to live? We die giving you a home.

(01:16:35):
This is how you repay us. I've never felt so
grief stricken in all of my thousands of years in existence.
I'm holding myself and sobbing at how much this fear,
anguish and pain hurts. We contrasts, feel these things far

(01:16:57):
more than most beings in the multiverse. We have great powers,
but we are also creatures of emotion. I'm so sorry
I choke out. I warned you that our bond as
beloved and our marriage would be short I cared for

(01:17:17):
you until your last day. Lucius. It wasn't enough. You
should have died with us, Jenesa. It's not fair. That
last part just kept echoing in my mind again and again.
I fall on to my back and feel the tears

(01:17:41):
freezing to the sides of my face as they trickle
from my eyes. The reality of being lost in another universe,
becoming beloved with one of this world's inhabitants, and losing
him to old, age and death had been a great
emotional burden. I never regretted my days with Lucius, even

(01:18:07):
knowing I would feel this great pain someday. It's not fair.
It's not fair, the voices keep repeating. Then those things
are hovering right over me. It's time for you to
come with us, Genessa. It's time for you to join

(01:18:30):
us in everlasting death. I scream my loudest as they
descend upon me. Now I'm feeling as though someone is
shaking me. Everything around me turns into a distortion. Soon
I see the jeweler standing in front of me and

(01:18:54):
shaking me again. Come on, blue girl, pull yourself together.
The jeweler snaps. Now I remember we were getting ready
to enter what might be the Blue Ribbons Compound. Then
everything went wonky. I know that it's Christmas Eve of

(01:19:15):
my current time, but I'm still feeling disoriented. I I
remember now, I tell the Jeweler. But didn't you feel
it too? She nods. I don't know what that thing is,
but it found out the hard way. You don't ever

(01:19:38):
want to be poking around in my head. It's never
a nice place to be. She helps me to my feet.
Don't let your guard down. That thing is still lurking
around here somewhere. The only way to beat it is
to not be afraid. I sigh and shake my head.

(01:19:59):
Easier said than done. I'm not like you, Jeweler. What
is it you're so afraid of? She demands. No, you
don't get it. I tell her, I'm not of your world.
My emotions are like yours, but greatly amplified. I'm not

(01:20:21):
going to go into my alien physiology with you, but
I am heeding your warning as best I can. I'm
looking around. Where is that creature? The Jeweler looks at
the open entrance into the Blue Ribbons Compound, then looks upward.

(01:20:43):
We should probably look into stopping that thing first. It's
out there somewhere, another voice calls out. We see Miranda
Mason Phillips coming toward us. She's looking very scared herself.
I don't know if that thing entered her mind the
way she entered ours, but she seems to be hanging

(01:21:07):
in there. I'm finally beginning to think clearly again myself.
Are you sure, the jeweler asks Miranda. Positive, she answers.
The jeweler looks at the entrance into the compound again.
Then I tell her what I'm thinking. Why don't you

(01:21:30):
go inside and see what you can find. I'll head
up and try to find that creature. It can't hide
forever with my speed. The question is can you both
not get caught? She smirks. I'm not the jeweler for nothin.

(01:21:56):
I'll be all right. She nods at Miranda, What about her?
I look at her and shrug. She'll do whatever she'll do, I imagine.
I don't wait for Miranda to say anything, and speed
through the sewer system. I find no sign of that creature.

(01:22:18):
Once I make my way back to the street, there's
already chaos with people being terrified. Then I see her
floating above and energy radiating from her body. Um the
fear that all my new dollies give off. She moans

(01:22:39):
like she's enjoying an intense massage, so delicious and so fulfilling.
That eerie, childlike voice is most nerve racking. The creature
not only has people cowering, there are multiple automobile accidents.

(01:23:00):
I've got to direct that creature's power at me. I
just have to remember what the jeweler said and not
fear her. This is easier said than done, but I'm
the only hope these people have right now. Also, I'm
an icy cold speedster. How good could that creature's powers

(01:23:24):
be if she doesn't have the speed to use them.
I'm the fastest one there is, period. I make sure
the creature sees me when I ascend into the air.
Now she sneers at me. I was wondering when my
new favorite Dolly might return. Come to me. I want

(01:23:47):
to feed on more of what frightens you. You'll have
to catch me first, I tell her. Her eyes gleam
with pleasure. When I turn to fly away, She's suddenly
right on me. N nn, your fear is the tastiest

(01:24:09):
of all, my Dolly. I don't care what you are,
but I want to be you. I can feed off
your fear for all eternity. She moves to shift her
hand into my brain again. I didn't realize this creature
could be so fast. I'm trying to fly us away

(01:24:31):
from everybody to keep her solely on me. The problem
is I can't fly at super speed, only run. That's
when I let myself drop. When I feel the creature
trying to hug me from behind like her lover. My
boots brush against something and I see I'm near a building.

(01:24:55):
I've got to get this thing out of Shore City,
and right now more. I must have more. The creature
moans as she continues to squeeze me to her. I
can feel my elevated fears beginning to overcome me yet again.

(01:25:16):
I have to focus on my running. The creature hangs
on as I bolt down the side of the building
and on to the street. I'm running throughout Shore City,
trying to make it to one of the suspension bridges
and get out of town. My hair is leaving a
trail of neon blue light behind me. That creature is

(01:25:37):
still holding on, but she won't be affected by the velocity.
I believe I generate a protective field when I run
when holding people in the past, they haven't frozen up
or burned. So yes, I lied to the reporter earlier
about how velocity works. In my case, you can run

(01:26:01):
as much as you wish, my Dolly, I am fear.
There's nowhere you can run where I cannot follow, especially
when I'm attached to you. I'm focused on my running
and don't think about my fears. This creature calls herself fear.

(01:26:25):
Where did she come from? She must be drawing off
what leftover fear I'm experiencing. I'm concentrating on running, so
I'm not giving her my actual fear. Soon I'm crossing
the bridge and leaving Shore City. Yes, keep feeding me.

(01:26:46):
You make me want to truly merge with you. With
your fear. You could feed me and be my Dolly forever,
since you're an immortal like me. When we reach an
open area, I stop, and fear is suddenly removed from
me and tumbling on the snow covered ground. When we

(01:27:10):
reach an open area, I stop, and fear is suddenly
removed from me and tumbling on the snow covered ground.
When I used to be a vampire, winters on Earth
never bothered me. Now that I've been transformed as a
result of that freak accident on that alien world ages ago,

(01:27:33):
Winters feel so unbelievably wonderful. Fear manages to stop herself
and levitates in the air. Who or what are you?
I ask? Fear laughs like a child. Don't you recognize me?

(01:27:56):
I was one of those young women you recovered out
of our machine. Earlier, the bomb my former sisters planted
in my head malfunctioned, resulting in me being arrested. But
as I was sitting in my cell, my hell Weaver
came and offered me both power and freedom in exchange

(01:28:20):
for my services. She kept her promise, now I'm keeping mine.
She especially wants me to play with you, my Dolly,
I gasp when I hear hell Weaver's name. So she
does still exist after our battle for the multiverse over

(01:28:45):
two hundred years ago. I don't know how hell Weaver
found this girl and made her arrangement with her, but
if that demonic goddess is free once more, it's no
seat she would target me. I'm the one who thwarted
her plans during that last stand, and Fear is right

(01:29:11):
about hell Weaver when she makes a bargain with you.
She will always keep her end of it, but woe
beyond to you if you don't keep yours. I myself

(01:29:32):
know Hell Weaver all too well. She's been a part
of my life from the time I was born. I
have thwarted her plans for various conquests again and again.
I should have died during that last stand. However, I
came to be stranded in whatever universe this is and

(01:29:57):
on Earth. If Hell Weaver truly is free of her prison,
that I must work towards finding peritonium and repairing my
wrist comp to escape my prison. I must be able
to find hell Weaver and stop her, even if it
means my own demise. Suddenly, Fear tries to appear behind me,

(01:30:25):
no doubt, attempting to FaZe her hand into my brain
and access my fears again. She has a look of
surprise when I easily move away from her. Let's see
how fast you can truly move, I tell her. Then
she laughs and flies straight toward me. I turn and

(01:30:48):
use my super speed to stay one step ahead of her.
I'm aware she's capable of teleporting, but I'm faster than
even teleportation itself, and easily run around her to keep
on moving. Oh no, you're being a very bad Dolly.

(01:31:09):
I demand to know more of your delicious memories. Show
me more of what frightens you. I'll follow you wherever
you go. Have I now become your obsession? I say,
feeling her fly close to me again. Clearly she's much

(01:31:32):
faster than me in the air. I've got the advantage though,
on the ground. Aren't there enough humans on this world
to satisfy your hunger? Not the way you do, my
favorite Dolly. I don't know what you are, but your
easily premium food compared to these plain style mortals. I

(01:31:59):
have such a east for you. Now I want more.
Then she looks away. Huh, yes, a shiny new Christmas
train to play with. When I see Fear moving away
from me, I quickly shift and run her way. Soon

(01:32:23):
she's flying right over a passenger train speeding down the track.
I know she's got something in mind for it. I
run ahead to try and anticipate what Fear is planning.
I'm well ahead of the train when I see she's
channeled her powers and destroyed the bridge on the track ahead.

(01:32:48):
It's time to choose you, naughty Dolly, continue to evade
me or save these plain dollies in the little toy train.
But to save them, you'll permit me to invade your
psyche and hm feast upon your fears again. More of

(01:33:11):
your secrets shall be revealed to me. You don't have
much time to chew, chew, chew. I don't know what
that human was before meeting hell Weaver, but she's proven
to be both creepy and intelligent. She can easily make

(01:33:34):
plans based on her environment or situation. She knows I'll
have to save the people on that train. The problem is,
it's not just fear. I have to worry about. The
gap she created in destroying the bridge is vast. What
I'm about to do could cause great injury to me,

(01:33:58):
possibly even my death. But I don't have a choice.
I cannot let those people die. The only way I
can save the train is to utilize my power over ice.
I can construct things by thinking of them and making

(01:34:19):
them appear. As long as I can focus, the ice
will maintain its shape and not melt away, even in
the hottest of Earth's summers. I create a new bridge
from my ice powers. The structure is great and will
require incredible concentration, just to keep it in place as

(01:34:42):
the train comes and crosses over. But fear will not
allow me to do this. In fact, I feel fear
wrapping her arms around me from behind and rubbing the
sides of her face against mine. M such new fears

(01:35:04):
you're creating for me now, my favorite dolly, Ah, Yes,
you are scared to allow these mortals to die. Such deliciousness.
I don't know why your fear tastes the greatest, but

(01:35:25):
I want you feed me. Fear is making my elevated
emotions more evident. I can feel my own fear growing
as she squeezes me to her like her lover. If
I can't control it, I won't be able to maintain

(01:35:46):
the bridge. The train will cause it to collapse, and
those people will die. I can't let that happen. I
can't run at super speed to keep fear away from me.
The distance would weaken my ability to hold the ice
structure together. Fear would maintain her hold on me and

(01:36:08):
not let go. Ooh, what's this? She shrieks, as if
she got the greatest Christmas gift she truly wasn't expecting.
More of your memories are revealed to me. Such pleasures
you give me, my Dolly. Christmas truly has come early

(01:36:33):
for me this year, such a tasty memory the far past.
I'm reliving my earliest days, when I was but a
young woman and first lived among the humans of a

(01:36:55):
parallel earth. This world was called and was in Universe
nine one zero. Looks like both fear and you will
learn a little of my ancient past. As you now know,
my birth name is Genessa. I was an abomination to

(01:37:19):
the people of my home world of Treylon. My mother,
Queen karah thran Dail, had borne me with a vampire
from Terra. Like all children, I took on many qualities
and traits of both of my parents. No matter what

(01:37:40):
mother would have told her people, they would never have
accepted me as her own daughter and would have overthrown
her to destroy me. In order to keep me safe,
it was agreed that my father would take me to
Tara with him. I knew him as father, but many

(01:38:01):
the universe over knew him as Dracula on Ta. Dracula
gave me a family known as the Ta Bons, but

(01:38:25):
with no I in the name. It sounds exactly like
the Ta Bonds of the Earth. I currently live on now.
In fact, I think the families may be mostly similar.
I was raised as Cassandra Tabon. Though I knew Dracula

(01:38:45):
was my father, I only came to know the Ta
Bonds as my real family. I loved them and was
most loyal to them. In this family, I came to
have a younger sister in Bella. At first, getting along
with her was difficult, but knowing she was my sister

(01:39:08):
in this family, I made every attempt to win her
to my side. Eventually, Bella came to trust in me
when I would risk my life to save hers in
battles again and again. The reason Bella came to hate
me was because her natural parents died to make sure

(01:39:31):
I would reach Grandma and Grandpa Tabon. When I came
to understand this, I felt horrible and empathized with Bella's feelings.
Bella finally came to accept me as her sister once
we became very close. We almost always did everything together,

(01:39:55):
not just training to face down the supernatural. But then
that day came when I would lose Bella. We were
in our mid twenties when a powerful vampire named Genevise
Hawthorne came to challenge our family. On Christmas Day, Bella

(01:40:18):
and I would learn that Genevese was Dracula's first wife.
She came to kill me when she learned that Dracula
had fathered me with an alien woman. She was so
consumed with madness to end my life that she sought
out members of the Tabon family and massacred them. When

(01:40:40):
I pleaded with Grandma and Grandpa to just give me
to Genevise, to stop the bloodshed, to stop the Tabon
bloodline itself from becoming extinct, they wouldn't hear of it.
Bella became greatly upset with me. She and I truly

(01:41:02):
had a sisterly bond that death had finally broken. Genevise
would eventually get her hands on me, even though I
had grown powerful as a vampire alien hybrid and was
trained very well in fighting. Genevise's insanity, jealousy, and rage

(01:41:22):
fueled her power. She had killed Bella when she took
a lethal hit in order to protect me. Then Genevise
damn near beat me to death, but I wouldn't yield
to her. You didn't protect me, Cassie. Bella's voice suddenly

(01:41:44):
rings out Bella's dead seemingly zombified form sits up and
approaches me. Genevies did kill Bella on this Christmas Day.
She died to save my life. Now she's returned as

(01:42:05):
this abomination. Bella and I had made plans to eventually
leave the Tabon homeland and roam the world in order
to save those who would need our help. Because of
Genevive's Hawthorn, that would not happen. In fact, when I

(01:42:29):
held her dying body in my arms, she caressed the
side of my face and uttered her last words, I
love you, sister. Stick to our plan. After I laid

(01:42:51):
Bella's body down, it soon became this zombified thing. I
don't even listen now as it chastises me. I know
what happened and focus on Bella's final words to me.
She was the reason why I didn't give up after

(01:43:11):
Genevese Hawthorn killed her. This is why I bounced back
and took the fight to Genevi's. I fought that powerful
master vampire until I emerged victorious. As for Genevise, she
would never rise again. But the more fear was placing

(01:43:33):
these falsehoods into my mind. The angrier. I was becoming.
My anger was allowing me to resist fear. It was
just as the jeweler said, standing up to my fears
and facing them was the best possible tactic. Current day,

(01:43:57):
my hair highly illuminates and cause fear to be repelled
from me. I feel the feedback on my mind as
the train begins to cross my ice bridge. My mind
is still jumbled from the attack and what she fed
from me. I force myself to focus. The feedback continues

(01:44:20):
to cause great pain, but I hold steadfast to keep
my bridge solid. Curse you and your light. Fear groans
behind me. Nonetheless, I shall possess you, my dolly. I
want more of your fears. I will my hair to

(01:44:42):
illuminate brighter. Fear cries out and is forced to retreat.
I won't be able to keep this up for long.
The feedback from my mind is so painful. Now I
can see the pillars of the ice bridge cracking. Oh.
I stammer, feeling my weakened knees give way. Please No,

(01:45:08):
my willpower is fading more. I keep pushing to make
the pillars become solid again. The train is halfway across
the bridge. Now I can feel myself bleeding from my
nose and my eyes. I know I'm getting weaker and weaker.

(01:45:29):
My head still hurts fiercely. I just can't shake fear's
effects on my mind. While I'm not afraid, now she
has left her residue behind. I collapse and fall. The
pillars are cracking again. If my ice bridge collapses, there's

(01:45:50):
no way I can possibly save that train. All of
those people will die. I couldn't save Bella all those years,
and now this effort will be all for nothing. Yes,
your light is fading, and when it fades enough, I

(01:46:12):
shall enter your body and merge with you such delicious fears.
You will sustain me with one more time. I remember Bella.
Even though she could give me a hard time the
way a younger sister could, she understood things and helped

(01:46:35):
me to adapt to tera. She had just as much
to teach me as our grandparents. I'm so very weak
and in a great deal of pain. Now I'm slipping.

(01:46:56):
I don't know how I can continue. I'm doomed. I'm
a failure to my family, to my beloveds, to these
innocent people on this train. I am weak and pathetic. No,

(01:47:32):
this isn't about me. I have to save these people,
no matter the cost. I force myself to my feet.
I feel my heart growing more powerful as it sends
bitterly cold energies throughout the rest of my body. My
hair illuminates brightly yet again, to drive Fear back. I

(01:47:56):
can keep my bridge together. My heart is a source
of my vast power. It is what sustains me. The
train is almost to the end of the bridge. I
watch as the last car is off. I did it.
I saved those people. Now I turn and face Fear.

(01:48:24):
You never should have entered my psyche again. You were
the one who inadvertently helped me save those people. Fear
raises her hands in front of her. I don't care
about that, I sigh. That's why you joined the Blue Ribbons,

(01:48:45):
Wasn't it because you no longer cared. I can't say
for sure, but you gave up your life to them.
You gave up your very soul to hell Weaver. You
may think you've got the bigger and better deal, but
the time will come when hell Weaver will place you

(01:49:06):
in a situation where you will wish you had never
made your arrangement. Hell Weaver gave me a new life
and a new purpose. When the Blue Ribbons would have
found and killed me, I have power now with it,
I gained my revenge on all of them, and now

(01:49:27):
I shall finally claim you, my dolly. Not today, I
tell her. I speed right to her and drop her
with a punch. She wipes the glowing yellow blood from
her mouth and looks up at me. You're not supposed
to be able to touch me. I'm intangible. I raise

(01:49:51):
my finger. You said so yourself, it's your name. You
are Fear. As long as I let myself feel that emotion,
you have power over me. But I don't fear you. Now.
The sepheric light radiating from my hair seems to affect you,

(01:50:15):
and since you are corporeal. Now, I grab Fear and
place her up on my shoulders, then run at super speed.
Now now I run around the world again and again.
As long as I hold on to Fear, my intense

(01:50:38):
velocity will not destroy her. Let me go, please. Eventually
I do stop and put her down just outside a
set of double doors. Clearly, Fear is most vulnerable when

(01:50:58):
she herself is made to feel the very thing she
is to embody. From there, I take her hands and
encase her in ice. The police of the sixth Precinct
see that I've given them fear. They don't know what
to make of me and my cargo, but the officers

(01:51:20):
ask me to wait and go back inside. Before long,
this team from mirr In Technologies comes and takes the
frozen creature away. They load her into what appears to
be a refrigerated truck that should keep her on ice indefinitely.

(01:51:41):
Suddenly I hear the bells and turn to look up
at the big clock near by. It rings twelve times.
The other humans know it too, because they wish each
other a merry crisis. I can't help but feel my

(01:52:03):
own icy tears rolling down my cheeks and freezing. As
long as Christmas Day continues to come every twenty fifth
of December, I'll always be forced to shed tears for Lucius,
since Christmas was our favorite time of the year. It

(01:52:24):
was this earth holiday that he loved sharing with me most. Hey,
A voice calls out to me. I turned to see Miranda,
Mason Phillips and the Jeweler approaching. When we're not with
an earshot of the police, I ask them, how was

(01:52:45):
your expedition into the Blue Ribbons headquarters? The reporter growls
in frustration that goddamn creature got to all of them
before we could. I don't know how, but she managed
to kill every single one of them. I mean, those
looks of anguish and horror on their faces even scared me.

(01:53:10):
She tightens her fists, and I don't scare easily. You
can't afford to get scared when you're in my line
of work, the Jeweler adds, And with those women all dead,
it would have taken a great deal of time to
access all those supercomputers and other advanced technology the reporter

(01:53:32):
and I found there. She raised her finger. Time we
wouldn't get since the self destruct sequence suddenly initiated. I
had to grab Miranda and get us the hell out
of there. Unfortunately, the Blue Ribbons were well prepared somehow,
I'm not surprised, I agree. I even feel a bit

(01:53:56):
let down. I would have liked to have seen if
they had some equivalent of a peritonium chip. Even though
I've been stranded on this world for many years, I
know I can't give up, especially since I know hell
Weaver has finally resurfaced. I've seen these Blue Ribbons before,

(01:54:17):
The Jeweler mutters. Once they clean up in here, they'll
either abandon their compound or set up again with a
new crew. Either way, we haven't seen the last of them.
She looks at her communication device. The other members of
the Final Defense are finishing their mission, but they won't

(01:54:38):
be back anytime soon. I'm ready to leave and head
back to Strickfield. Then the Jeweler quickly snatches my wrist. Wait,
I'm not sure that I'm ready to join your team.
I tell her I'm still not okay. She nods once understandable,

(01:55:07):
But I was going to ask you, if you don't
have any plans for Christmas, would you like to join
me for dinner at my home. I could hear the
melancholia in her tone, which triggered my own emotions. I
could understand that, like me, she herself had lost someone

(01:55:30):
dear to her and was alone for the holiday. Clearly
she could sense the same thing from me. I don't
wish to be alone on Christmas again this year. I
agree to have dinner with the Jeweler, and much to

(01:55:50):
my surprise, she invites that reporter. I could sense the
sadness she felt, which is why I believe she accepted
the invitation. She did not want to be alone on
Christmas Day either. I'll leave the reporter side of me
at the door, she promises, Yeah, please do. The jeweler

(01:56:16):
responds perspective Miranda. It's not often I promise not to
be a reporter. Remember, I'm all about me. Still, these
two did save a bunch of people and on Christmas Eve,

(01:56:36):
and they weren't looking for any reward or accolades. They
did it because it was the right thing to do.
I still have my angles though. I've been looking into
the jeweler for some time and already determined her secret identity.
All I gotta say is, Charlie Evans is definitely one

(01:56:57):
of the wealthiest women I know. I mean, this woman
has a fortune and jewelry, among other things. What's her story?
Ten years ago Christmas Day, Wilmont Evans attended a special
event with his wife Shar at the Masonic Auditorium. After

(01:57:18):
they were leaving the event, these thugs came to rob them.
When they tried assaulting Shar, Wilmot fought for her and
was gunned down in the street. Shar was shot repeatedly,
but the thugs didn't have time to make sure that
either one was finished off. And this was my very

(01:57:39):
first story as a reporter. I was sent to take
pictures of the Evans and maybe get some quotes. I
wasn't expecting to cover the horrible scene that had taken place.
I wasn't being exploitative like I am now. I truly
just felt awful for those two. They were pillars of

(01:58:01):
Shore City and always gave to charities and programs to
help the needy. Char survived and took her time to recover.
Of course, I never guessed this horrible event would send
her down a path to becoming the jeweler. Unfortunately, Shar
didn't get revenge on the thugs. They had been rounded

(01:58:23):
up and sentenced to life in prison with no parole.
But she would train and push herself until she became
the best she could be. Now she prowls the night
taking down pieces of shit like those thugs. As many
times as I could have published Char's story, I just
couldn't bring myself to do it. I guess even a

(01:58:47):
stone cold bitch like me does have a heart just
a little bit. Char still lives in this luxurious mansion
her deceased husband moved her into after they got married.
Even though she's hosting Christmas dinner here, she's still dressed
up in a formal evening gown like she's going out later.

(01:59:11):
And Blue Girl, Wow, she showed up wearing a gown
that looked like it could have been made from crystalline ice.
Both of them didn't need to wear masks since they
seemed to trust each other. Now, for the record, I
said I wouldn't publish Charlie Evans's secret, but I never
said anything about Blue Girl. As if reading my mind,

(01:59:35):
Candace looks right at me. Go ahead and reveal my
secret identity. I'll just create a new one and move
to a new place. Candace Redmont is not even my
real name. Shar speaks up. Now, I invited you into
my home to spend Christmas with us, Miranda. If you

(01:59:56):
can't even be respectable for just one day, then I'll
have two of my staff show you the door. I
raise both my hands. Okay, you win. I won't publish
either of your personal stories. I stand up, But god
damn it, I want your stories. I want the ones

(02:00:18):
you too will create with with saving people. Those will
sell newspapers, for sure. Shar stands up and points at me.
But not today. Need I remind you of your agreement
to leave the reporter in you outside. She's got me.
I nod once and tell them I understand. I will.

(02:00:43):
The three of us enjoy Christmas together. Shar even shows
kindness to her servants and lets them enjoy this magnificent
feast they helped prepare. Her husband was a kind and
generous man, and she honors his memories by being the same. Eventually,
the three of us do leave the Evans mansion and

(02:01:05):
head out to a Christmas event at the Masonic Auditorium,
where we see a Broadway level performance of Charles Dickens
a Christmas Carol. Shah explained that it was Wilmot's favorite
story of all time, and she keeps this memory of
him alive by always attending the special Christmas Day performance.

(02:01:27):
Even Candace seems to shed some icy tears. Funny thing
is Candace's skin is snow white. I'm sure people think
she's an albino. Her blue hair is more of a
reddish violet. Now turns out she can make her fiber
optic like hair into any color she wants. I can't lie.

(02:01:52):
I'm pretty jealous. This alien woman is going to be
my obsession. Just sitting next to her is exciting. Candace
is the most amazing phenomenon I've ever seen. Forget your
vampires and ghosts, or even the mutant spider girls out there.

(02:02:17):
Candace is an actual alien with powers beyond our comprehension,
things people like me can only ever dream of seeing,
let alone doing. I gotta find a way to stay
close to her somehow. Imagine if I could actually visit
her world and see the things she's seen. I know

(02:02:40):
I'm not getting any sleep tonight. When we're leaving the event,
Shar poses for a few pictures with Candace and I.
At least I'll have something else to send Josh for
tomorrow's edition. For the record, Josh already got the footage
from me of when Blue Girl and the Jeweler took
down that mechanical monster yesterday. When the photo ops here

(02:03:03):
at the venue are done, we get into Shar's limo
and return to her house. I still can't take my
eyes off Candace. When we reach Shar's mansion, we head inside.
We spend some time talking about things. Eventually, those blue
ribbons bitches come up. Shar says she'll keep looking into them.

(02:03:27):
Doesn't it strike you funny that a secret society of
college aged women had a compound right here in Shore City.
Suppose there are more of them in other cities, maybe
even around the world. I've been pondering the same thing,
Candace admits. Shar raises her finger, and once I inform

(02:03:50):
the rest of the team about them, I'm sure investigating
them is going to become a priority for the Final Defense.
Shar and Candace look at each other for a moment,
then Candace says, okay, fine, I'll join your team. Shar
brightens up. Are you sure, Candace nods. It's clear this

(02:04:14):
world needs me again, especially with those Blue Ribbons being
a very real threat. I can't be the only other
one you'll need to recruit. It can't just be the
five of us to defeat this, she points at Candace.
But maybe with you joining us, it'll entice other heroes

(02:04:36):
to want to join up too. You're not the only
one with superpowers, elementor hot Shot and Street Warrior they
also have them, although you are the only one who's
an actual alien. Shar extends her hand. Welcome to the
Final Defense, Blue Girl. Candace shakes her hand to seal

(02:04:58):
the deal. Then Shar looks at me. I know what
you want. Don't worry. You'll get your headlines for your
village's newspaper so long as you cooperate with us. Shar
stands up quickly. And if you even think of screwing
us over, I'll make sure you go from being an

(02:05:19):
ace reporter to becoming a laughingstock of the newspaper world.
Your good name will forever be tarnished. Believe me when
I say I do not make idle threats. Then I
just point at Candace and blurt it out. I want
her story too. I look at Candace. I'm so fascinated

(02:05:41):
by you. I want more than anything to know your background.
I want to know you. Candace shakes her head. No,
I don't want you publishing anything regarding my life. I
don't believe this world is ready to accept the existence
of alien beings, not with the way your people can be.

(02:06:03):
She's right, Shara agrees. Then I say those three words
I very much hate saying, most off the record. Now
I have their attention. I don't want to publish your
life stories. I mean I do, at the same time
I don't. It's just it's just me here. I know

(02:06:27):
your story, shar But I really want to know your story, Candace.
You're what I've been waiting for my whole life. Then
I declare I would even quit my job if it
meant I could really know you. Char and Candace look
at each other again. Then Candace tells me it won't

(02:06:48):
come to that. For me to share my life's story,
You'll have to prove to me that I can trust you.
You did threaten to expose me just yesterday. Fine, then
I'll earn your trust. In front of them, I delete
the footage of her unmasked. I want to be a
part of your life. Please. We talk about it some more.

(02:07:12):
The heroes agree, I get exclusives for my paper, and
I promise Candace in Shah I won't publish their personal
stories and if I can't be here in Shore City
when shit goes down, they agreed to contact me exclusively
and fill me in on all the juicy action. Then

(02:07:33):
Candace gives me a little something this Christmas, just a
little I'm not just an alien, Miranda, She tells me,
I'm not even from your universe. There are a great
many stories about my existence that I could share with you,

(02:07:53):
as long as you show me, I can trust you.
Of course, I promise to do things on their terms.
I have to. I can't lose this great Christmas present
that literally fell right into my lap. As long as
I get to work with the Final Defense, I can
make the name of Miranda Mason Phillips even bigger. But

(02:08:17):
when the time comes, Blue Girl, I swear to Almighty God,
I'm leaving with you and going wherever you end up going,
if you ever leave earth. One day, we three ladies
toast to both a very merry Christmas and to our
new arrangement. Believe me when I say he'll be seeing

(02:08:38):
a lot more of yours truly down the road. And
I don't mean just my name across the headlines in
the Strickfield Journal each and every day until next time. Well,

(02:09:02):
my spookys, I hope you enjoyed having a blue Christmas

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; β€œHe paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a β€œlive” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, β€œbroke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run β€œTrying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as β€œThe Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. β€œThe Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. β€œThe guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
