Speaker 1 (00:04):
Consul to paper sketching. You are on this page.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
What kind of journey will this draw and bring to life?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Today?

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Another adventure waits for you, ro Scout and Layla. My
comment wong to It's imagination time.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
A curiosity cold, Curiosity cal It's a magical place come true.
Welcome to Adventures of Curiosity.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Cald Hello, hell, it's me Ella the Curious. Whether you're
joining us for the first time or coming back for
more adventures, I'm thrilled to have you here. Welcome back
to season two of the Adventures of Curiosity Cove, where

(01:12):
each episode we dive into one of my own Ella
the Curious adventures or listen to an original story right
here in my cozy treehouse. Picture this, We're nestled among
the trees, surrounded by comfy bean bags, piles of fluffy pillows,
and yes, my favorite stuffy Roe is here too. It's
like we've stepped into a peaceful world, almost as if

(01:34):
my mom used her relaxing dream spray to set the tone.
It's just peace and quiet, perfect for story time. So
what are we waiting for? Let's dive into today's tale
called to crush or not to crush? That is the question,
are you ready to listen? I sure am, all right,

(01:54):
let's do it. Walking down the hallways of Cove Elementary,
we see the lockers and walls Cascady with pictures of
big red hearts and words that read would you be
My Valentine? A large poster says Valentine's Day dance, Come one,
Come on, celebrating friendship and love. Friday. After school, the

(02:18):
bell rings and kids scattered to their appropriate places. We
see Scout, Layla, and Ella leave their classroom and head
to lunch.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Boy, oh boy, does Miss Carter's tacos smell yummy today?
I can't wait to eat.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
They do smell yummy, but my stomach is a bit
twisted right now?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Why is that?

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Ella? Are you guys nervous about the Valentine's Day dance
on Friday?

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Yeah, I asked Ashley to be my date. I've been
crushing on her since second grade. Ashley Ashley from the
Cove Cuties. Scout, yep, that one.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Scout. I don't know about that one. She wasn't so
nice to me and Layla before.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
No, not my Ashley. She's a sweetheart.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Scout, Layla and Ella make it to the cafeteria where
they grab their food and sit at their favorite table together. Okay, Scout,
if you say so, I'm excited. Ella Lewis, who loves robotics,
asked if I would go with him so we can
robot the afternoon away. That's so sweet, Leila. My dad

(03:27):
and mom sometimes do the robot to this group called
earth Wind and Fire. It's pretty fun to watch. Are
you crushing on anyone?

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Ella?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Who?

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Me? Laila looks around. You're the only Yella at this table,
so I'm assuming yes you. Well, that's what I was
a bit concerned about. No one has asked me yet,
but I'm not sure if I even want someone to.
I mean, we're all friends, right, and what is a
crush even? Oh?

Speaker 4 (03:55):
A crush is simple. It's someone you happen to like
a lot, nothing more, nothing less.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Right. Yeah, I think I'm good. Then I'm not really
into anyone that much. Ella grabs some books out of
her backpack to start finishing up her schoolwork, and a
beautiful drawing of two large hearts intertwined together that says
Carter and Ella forever together falls out. Layla picks it up. Ella,

(04:23):
Are you sure you're not really into anyone. Layla shows
Ella the drawing that she dropped out of her backpack.
Oh my goodness, Layla, she grabs them before anyone else
in the cafeteria can see it. Okay, truth, truth, I
have a crush, a big one on Carter King. And

(04:44):
then I was thinking, our crush isn't even necessary. Why
does everyone have to run around stating who their crushes are.
We're in the third grade.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
Yeah, but marriage is only about twenty years away.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Scout laughs.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
I'm kidding, guys, Ella, crushes are just fine. You don't
need to have one, but if you do, that's okay too.
It's a fun and exciting feeling.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Something to kind of look forward to, or simply make
you smile. But I can smile without one too, Ella
makes an awkward smile. Of course you can. Ella. Are
you saying you don't want to crush because you actually
don't want one, or you're scared your crush won't crush

(05:29):
on you back? That's the difference, Ella, Ella looks at
her friends. Leila hit the nail on the head as usual.
I guess that's it. Fear of rejection. The lunch bell rings,
and the besties head back to their classrooms. After school,
the hallway is buzzing with excitement. Kids are exchanging Valentine goodies,

(05:52):
talking about their latest dance moves and what they're going
to wear. Ella heads out to start walking home, ready
to eat her mom's favorite afternoon snack. As Ella is
walking out of Cove Elementary, she looks to see if
Scout or Laila walking home as well, But as she turns,
she accidentally bumps into Carter King, the cute and popular

(06:12):
soccer fanatic, Carter King, more importantly, Ella's crush. Oops, I'm sorry, Carter.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
No worries Ella. It's all good.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Yes, yeah, all good it is.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
By the way, congrats on scoring in ninety nine on
that math test last week. That's really cool. I get
a little confused with fractions in divisions sometimes.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Oh, thanks, Carter, I do too. Sometimes I studied just enough,
and then deep breaths helped me to focus when I
take the test.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Wow, that's really good to know. I'll have to try
the deep breathing thing, all right.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Carter catching out crocodile. I meanwhile or whatever it is?

Speaker 4 (07:02):
Hey, are you going to the dance the Valentine's Dance? No,
the Christmas Dance? Yes, Ella, the Valentine's Dance.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Silly right, geez, Nah, dances aren't really my thing. Besides,
everyone is talking about going with their crushes and I
don't really have one, so you know.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Well, just because you don't have one doesn't mean you
shouldn't go.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Ellen knows Carter's right. She honestly loves to dance, but
just blurted something out out of nervousness. True, true, Carter,
very true.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
All right, Well, I gotta go. I gotta get the
soccer practice.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Yep, you go on and kick that ball. And if
you ever need help with math, I'm here. Carter pulls
out his skateboard and throws it on the ground to
head out.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
Oh I thought you'd never offer. Thanks, Ella, I'll take
you up on that.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
He heads out, but before he does, he turns back around.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
And I really wish dancing was your thing.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Ella lets out a huge breath. Oh my god, who
was I back? There was Carter going to ask me
to the dance? What in the world?

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Ella?

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Laila walks by as Ella is talking to herself, Ella,
are you okay? Sort of kind of the two start
walking together. Leila, I think Carter is crushing on me. Great.
That means you're going to the dance. Well kind of.
I actually blurted out something I didn't mean in hopes

(08:37):
of not getting my feelings hurt. So you weren't truthful? Yeah,
mostly with myself and my own feelings. Feelings are funny
like that. Sometimes they make you say things you don't
really mean. Yeah, And I think my feelings just ruined
my chances of going to the dance with someone I
really like hanging out with. The great thing about feelings,

(08:58):
Ella is they can change. Layla and Ella arrive at
Layla's front porch. All right, this is you, Leila, It
sure is. I'm glad you're my best Yella. So am
I Layla? Same time tomorrow. Do slugs move slow?

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Then same time tomorrow. Ella heads to her home a
few doors down. She enters Mama. She doesn't hear anyone,
but smells delicious brownies on the stove with a note
from her mom Joy. It reads, Ella, I'm upstairs on
a call. I made you a tuna fish sandwich. It's
in the fridge. Grab some baby carrots and a glass

(09:39):
of water. No brownies till after you eat. I'll be
down in a second. Ella grabs her yummy snack and
a small brownie for after her meal, and sits at
the kitchen table. Ella pulls out her book Prancy Chancy
and the Drawing of the two Hearts that fell on
the cafeterior floor earlier. She takes a big sigh. What

(09:59):
was that deep? All about? My cutie pie? Mama? Joy
and Ellen and brace as if they hadn't just seen
each other this morning. It's the love that keeps on giving.
Did you see King Carter today? Ella blushes. Mama. Ella
continues to eat while Joy speaks, what crushes are so fun?

(10:20):
I remember when I was in third grade and crushed
on a kid named Brian. Wait, stop the presses. It
wasn't always dad, No, Ella, I had a life before
your dad. You know. Brian was the class president of
our third grade student council. He was so smart and
so kind. He used to help me with my science homework.

(10:42):
Tell me more, Mama, he must have loved you. I mean,
who can resist Brian? Joy laughs? What? But how could he? Well?
Thank you, Ella, I thought the same thing, especially after
I told him that I was crushing on him. Mama,
you actually told him?

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Why?

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Of course I did, Ella, how did you get so brave?
Bravery is in action, Ella, I didn't know any better,
and my mama always told me clothes mouths don't get fed.
If I never put myself out there, I would never
know if Brian was crushing on me too. I was
too curious not to ask. He actually became one of
my best friends all throughout high school. Wait, let me

(11:26):
get this straight. You told him he was your crush
and he rejected you, and you still remain friends. Wait
best friends? Yep. Rejection is never easy, Ella. But if
you don't ever put yourself out there, how will you
ever know the possibilities about anything?

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
I never looked at it like that. If I don't
shoot my shot, I'll always miss. There you go, Ella,
Now you got it, Thanks Mama. Always you missed one
hundred percent of the show you don't take. I think
my favorite basketball player, Michael Jordan, said that, Yeah, I
think so too. The next day, in the cafeteria Cove Elementary,

(12:11):
Carter King was sitting with his soccer team at lunch
when a very nervous Ella walked in and caught Carter's eyes.
Ella immediately went and sat with her besties, Laylan Scout,
you okay, Ella, Ella quickly answered, thinking she was being
as cool as a cucumber. Yeah, of course I am.
Why wouldn't I be? Huh? As Ella said this, she

(12:33):
was trying to poke a hole in her lemonade juice box,
but kept missing the hole. While staring at Carter's table.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
Who do you think you'll dance with at our third
grade Valentine's Party? I can't wait to bust a move me.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Why did you hear anything? Did someone say something?

Speaker 4 (12:49):
Uh? Nope, just a simple question.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
E With that, Ella can no longer hold it in Carter.
I want to tell Carter I'm crushing on him, but
I'm scared, scared of what exactly? Something called rejection layla.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
Oh. I get rejected all the time. I'm always picked
last for kickball, but I think it's my superpower because
by the end of each game, I usually score the winning.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Kick and they still pick you last.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
Oh yeah, memories are very short, but that doesn't stop
me from getting in the game and shooting my shot
and being the best I can be.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
In that moment, Scout inspires Ella to do exactly that.
Ella gets up and walks over to Carter's table. Nervous
and all, Carter, can I talk to you? It's as
if the world stopped as Carter starts to get up
from a seat. Of course, Selah, I have to tell
you something, and I'm not sure how.

Speaker 4 (13:51):
Actually, can I go first? Ella? Uh? Yeah, I'm a
bit I don't know, out of your league. You're so
smart and funny and pretty. I wanted to ask you
if you'd be my valentine, but yeah, I know you
and Scout.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Are no way. I mean yes, I mean Scout is
my best friend, and yes, I will be your valentine.
I was basically gonna say the same to you.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
Really, Oh my gosh, I was so scared you would
reject me because you just started tutoring me and all.
By the way, would you mind help me later this
afternoon for Friday's math.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Quiz anytime Carter. Ella happily walked back to her table
with a big smile on her face. It obviously went great,
Yes it did.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
See, Ella, your fear of being rejected almost got the
best of you.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Thanks to you, Scout. I didn't let it.

Speaker 4 (14:49):
Well. I ate some of your animal cookies for inspiring you.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Of course you did, Scout, of course you did. The
three besties laughed together as they continued to eat lunch
and talk all about the Valentine's Day party. The end. Wow,
I am so glad I didn't allow my fears to
get the best of me. PS. The Valentine's Day party
