Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, everybody, bow Welcome to the buzzard Friday. This one's
gonna have to last year though, because it's the last
of the year, because we need a break. Uh Yeah,
we're gonna take some time off and come back strong
in the new year. So thank you for a great year.
We all appreciate you very much, and we're gonna come
back with the Buzz twenty four to seven with one
(00:24):
of our fame rock and rollers coming up right after this.
It's the Buzz at twenty four to seven at Morningbuzz
dot com.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
This is on the.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
First met Lizzie Hale. I think she was like, I
don't know, nineteen eighteen years old. They did a show
at the Hampton Beach Casino Barham. They were opening up
for another band. I can't even remember who it was,
but they were really nice. The whole band was really
nice and their mom was actually doing the ironing of
their stage ware, which is pretty funny. And we've kind
(01:05):
of been friends with the band ever since. So here
we go, taking you back to uh and interview with
Lizzie Hale on the Buzz Archive Friday. Here you go
be love Me Abot Livedic. There you go Apocalyptic. It
is uh Lizzie Hale from Hailstorm, who coincidentally joins us
on the phone.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Hey Lizzie, Hi, how you doing Darland?
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I'm good? How are you?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
I'm doing fantastic. It's directed release day. I'm like, it's
like Christmas. Have you gone it?
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Have you gone and bought it?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Not yet? That is my plan as soon as I
get done with this the press extravaganza this morning. But
I'm definitely planning on doing that. I've done it every
single time. Yeah, we release the record and uh and
just for luck and it's it's to me. I don't know,
it's just it's cool. I don't know why. It's a
personal journey and I do it every time. But so
(01:56):
far hasn't failed me yet. We're still making records.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
So here's a question, Lizzie. I mean, we've talked to you,
we've talked to you a lot, and I always wondered
that same question. I've always asked about that. But when
you go up to the store and you just hold
up the sea and go, hey, hey, hey right here,
it's me right there, Hey, hey, hey, guy in the
flock of seagulls that the other guy? Yeah you yeah,
TD you do that.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Hey, by the way, this is my record. That's right,
You're welcome. Actually, I've never been I've never been recognized,
not once when I'm buying my own record, which is funny.
The only time I've ever been recognized buying something that
I'm involved in is if I'm like blatantly on the
cover of a magazine or something and I go out
to buy it because it's like, uh uh, black brown hair.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
You don't tell yeah, you don't hold up the Live
Wire home page to say twenty five rock goddesses. You
see that? Yes, me, that's right, you don't. You don't
do that. Hey, I wanted to ask. The name of
the record is called Into the Wildlife. And you know,
we followed you right since the very beginning, when I
think it was your mom toured with you and we
(03:04):
did shows with you at the Casino Ballroom. And I'm
reading that with this album. I got a chance to
listen to it last night, and I will tell you
that I agree with it. But for the band Hailstorm,
you've kind of gone places where you haven't gone before
on this record.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Oh, absolutely, you know, I think it just it comes
with evolving and growing up and for us, we've been
a foursome for twelve years and spent ninety percent of
our time touring, and so this was it was a
little scary because we had to completely trust ourselves on
(03:39):
this record and be a little just kind of unapologetically ourselves,
and that's scary to venture into something like that. But
at the same time, we're kind of I guess we're
at a point in time in our life where we're
very comfortable with just kind of showing all of our
influences and not being afraid to venture into places that
(04:03):
we haven't been before on this record, and I think
that we probably would have, you know, but given the
circumstances on the last record, and we were a little
bit more we just wanted to make everything a lot
more streamlined and cleaner on the last record. So, for
lack of a better term, we basically just said, screw it.
We're just gonna do what we want and we'll see
(04:24):
what happens at the end.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
I appreciate that I went through some of the songs
and I'm looking now, if I was just to look
at the song titles, it would I'm trying to get
a sense of your headspace and looking from the looking
at the song titles, you go, uh, let me see
from I like it Heavy, what sober couldn't say? Bad girls,
World Mayhem, And then you go dear Daughterer and amen,
then you go back to sick individuals. I'm the fire.
(04:48):
I mean, I think you're all over the plame.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Well well, I mean, for lack of a more eloquent explanation,
this just be crazy and uh, and there's a lot
there's a lot of ups and downs to me and
everything that goes on in my life. So again, just
kind of putting everything out there, and it's it's it's fun, man.
It's like, you know too, What's what's truly? And this
(05:12):
is I guess because of the album title. You know,
we could talk about, like, you know, the fact that
I've you know, definitely let trouble find me a little
bit more often than I probably should. But what's really,
what's really wild and what's really strange at this point
in time in my life is that I'm very comfortable
with with who I am and and and what I
(05:36):
believe in and what I think about and talking about it,
you know, which I don't think I've ever really been
this this comfortable and probably in my entire life. So
you know, a lot of that ended up leading through
on this record.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
You know what's good for you? I mean it's a
it's a good place to be and it's a good
perspective to to be able to have roadkills. Got a
question for you, Lizzie, what has changed since you guys
came out? What was not important then that's important now
or vice versa.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I think the most important thing to us now is
is ownership. Uh, you know, of of our our lives,
our career, we we have We've had so many it's
gonna sound so cheesy, but we've had so many dreams
come true and so many milestones and it's it's wonderful.
But what what we've realized is that the goal still
(06:22):
hasn't changed is just to continue as as a foursoman
and as friends. And something that we rediscovered on this
record was this musical language that we have with each
other because believe me, like we're not all virtue of
those you know, none of us went to Berkeley. One
and a half of us can it can actually read music.
(06:42):
You know, we're not trying to you know, save the
world or reinvent the wheel we just want to be
the very best wheel that we can be, you know
what I mean. And so I think that's uh that
to me that's more important right now is is preserving
whatever we are versus maybe you know, versus record sales,
(07:03):
versus you know, you know, airplay versus like global domination.
I think it's just that is the uh, that is
the most important thing dots right now.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Lizzie. I think Hailstorm is one of those bands for
us that we we've sat back and we've watched your
kind of journey and stuff like that. One of the
bands that are out there really getting it done in
the old fashioned way, and we appreciate it. What made you, uh,
what made you write a letter to your younger self?
I read that earlier this morning.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
You know. It's funny. I was. I was doing that anyway,
and then somebody had kind of asked. I got into
a conversation with somebody I forget who ended up one
of the one of the journals, and oh, you know,
we had this conversation with Lizzie. Mind putting that out there,
and so I don't know, I think it was for me,
it was personally, Uh, it was important at that moment
(07:51):
to kind of look back, and it's it's always an
interesting question, right, and you know, what would you tell
your younger self? And usually I'd be like, I don't know, man,
just don't sweat the small us. I don't know, you know,
And and just really started thinking about it. And I
think in light of some of these songs on the
new record, you know, uh, your daughter and a lot
of these kind of more uh things that that maybe
(08:13):
in the past I would have been afraid to talk
about and say. I think that helped spur that forward.
But it's it's interesting because I love I love erring
on the side of just kind of putting myself out
there because I've noticed it's that's more inspiring, you know
than me trying to be a rock star. Right, I
get you, Holly, it helps somebody.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
I think it's pretty cool. Ghad Laura, one more Lizzie.
Before we had you on, I was asking Greg, I'm like,
I feel like Hailstorm has not stopped touring since the
first time we heard of the band, and you had
said earlier that you toured ninety percent of time. Do
you miss home? Do you do you have a home?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Do you ever get to go back there.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
You're always on the road every time.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Are you lost? I feel like you are. You're always
on the road. Are you okay? I have a couch.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah, that's good.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
You know. It's I just I just moved to Nashville,
and it's a it's just kind of a small apartment.
It's it's just enough, you know. I will say that
I was a little overzealous and invested in like a
big bed because I haven't, like, never had a big bed,
you know. And it's and it's the irony is that
you get off the road and you're so usy your
little coffin bunk that I still wake up all the
(09:27):
way on one side, sleeping on my side. I don't
even use the whole thing. So it's like, yeah, it's
it's it's interesting. I think touring is more normal now
than than than normal life. Normal life is now like
I get off tour and I'm like, woo, let's go
to the bars. It's awesome. You know, my real life
is vacation now.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
Good for you, Well, listen, it's great to talk to you.
As always. The album is in stores. Into the Wildlife
Lizzie from Hailstorm, She's always helped us out with Lenday
helping Can in the fall. It's always great to talk
to you once again, and we look forward to seeing
you out on the road that you never leave.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Yes exactly, he wrote it my poem. That's right. I'll
see you soon. Thank you so much for all the support.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
Guys, you gotta Lizzie take care.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Oh thanks guying.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
