In this episode of the Speaker Series on "A Shot Glass of Recovery," host Lisa M. introduces a powerful and moving story of resilience and hope from Belinda C., who shares their personal journey from a traumatic childhood to finding strength in sobriety. With a sober date of 1-17-18, our speaker recounts the harrowing experiences of growing up in a tumultuous environment, including being trafficked by their own mother and facing extreme challenges such as institutionalization.
Despite a past riddled with pain and adversity, Bellinda C., found solace and transformation within the AA community, gradually learning to trust and connect with others. The journey towards healing included overcoming significant educational barriers, embracing service, and discovering a newfound purpose in life. This inspiring narrative emphasizes the power of community, the importance of finding a mentor, and the commitment to helping others facing similar struggles.
Join us for this heartfelt episode as we explore themes of survival, acceptance, and the unwavering spirit of a survivor who turned their life around through the strength gained from the AA fellowship and a determination to "get the people" and assist those still suffering from addiction.
After the show notes were written for this episode - I received a text from Berlinda's partner "Ronnie"...I thought it would be nice to share it here.
"Berlinda C. is a Woman In Recovery who is dedicated to working on herself and helping another alcoholic. She takes her Recovery seriously, but she is so full of life and is funny. Berlinda is working on getting her CASAC so she can continue to help others. Berlinda's story is one of resiliency, support, and love. I am so very proud of her and glad she is my partner. We do this thing called life together and I am grateful that she is in my life."
