Summary:  OpenAI's apparently on the hunt for an advertising chief, which feels inevitable really. With 700 million weekly users and mounting compute costs, they've got to monetize the freeloaders somehow. Likely, ads are coming to the free tier. Probably sponsored recommendations when you're searching for speakers or whatever. It's the same Faustian bargain we've already made with Google and Meta, just wrapped in a chatbot. They'll need to be careful though. Yahoo got greedy with sneaky paid listings and lost everything to Google. Trust erodes quickly.

Meanwhile, there's this bonkers app called Neon sitting at number two in the US App Store that literally pays you 30 cents per minute to record your phone calls and flog the data to AI companies. Proper dystopian stuff, except everyone's doing it willingly for pocket change. And whilst we're all distracted by that circus, China's Qwen models just quietly dropped six new releases including Qwen 3 Max, which is currently sitting third on the global leaderboards, right behind GPT-5 and Claude Opus. They're open source, free to use, and most people haven't even heard of them. 

Finally, we've become so entitled to AI progress that even foundation models acing the hardest financial exams barely makes headlines anymore.
