🏰 HISTORICAL OVERVIEW

Location: On the Delaware River near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Built: Originally constructed by the British in 1771, completed in 1777.

Purpose: To defend Philadelphia and the Delaware River from naval attack.

During the American Revolutionary War, Fort Mifflin played a crucial role in delaying the British navy long enough for George Washington’s army to regroup at Valley Forge — hence the nickname “The Fort That Saved America.”

It was rebuilt several times and remained an active military post until 1954, serving through:

The War of 1812

The Civil War (used as a prison)

World War I & II (used for storage and communications)

Today, it’s a National Historic Landmark — part museum, part preserved battlefield.

👻 PARANORMAL ACTIVITY

Fort Mifflin is one of the most haunted places in America and a top site for investigators.

Reported spirits include: The Screaming Woman:

Believed to be Elizabeth Pratt, who lived at the fort in the 1800s and allegedly took her own life after family tragedy. Her piercing cries have been heard echoing through the fort.

The Faceless Man / The Whistler:

Said to be the ghost of William Howe, a soldier executed for desertion during the Civil War. His whistling is often heard near the casemates.

The Lamplighter:

A shadowy figure seen carrying a lantern through the fort’s tunnels and walkways.

The Blacksmith:

Apparitions and metallic sounds are reported in the old blacksmith shop, where tools move on their own.

Residual battle energy:

Gunfire, cannon blasts, footsteps, and shouts are often heard — believed to be imprints of the 1777 battle that left hundreds dead.
