Louise Hay is one of the most influential voices in modern self-help, known as the “queen of affirmations.” Her work centered on the idea that our thoughts and beliefs shape our reality, and by changing our mental patterns—especially through affirmations—we can create healing, abundance, and joy in our lives. Louise believed that the mind and body are deeply connected. She taught that negative thought patterns—such as resentment, guilt, or fear—can manifest as physical illness or emotional struggles. Louise developed a practice called mirror work, where you look into your own eyes in a mirror while repeating affirmations. She believed this intensified self-love and helped dissolve resistance, because many people struggle to truly love themselves.

  • Look into the mirror and say, “I love you. I really, really love you.”

Louise also connected affirmations to physical healing in her bestselling book “You Can Heal Your Life.” She suggested that many illnesses have underlying emotional or mental causes—for example, chronic pain linked to unresolved guilt, or digestive issues connected to difficulty “digesting” life experiences. By combining affirmations with emotional release, she believed people could accelerate healing.
