This week we discuss the 2008 historical film drama Hunger directed by Steve McQueen, starring Michael Fassbender, Liam Cunningham, and Liam McMahon.

The film stars Fassbender as Bobby Sands, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) member who led the second IRA hunger strike and participated in the no wash protest in which Irish republican prisoners tried to regain political status after it had been revoked by the British government in 1976.

It outlines events in the Maze Prison in the period leading up to the hunger strike and its aftermath.

The boys get serious here. The Aussie loves his biographies. But not this one. "slow and hard to understand" he says

The Scotsman calls the The Aussie ignorant!

What about that incredible 18 minute one take scene between Fassbender and Cunningham.

"I'm not here to do work, I'm here to be entertained" says the Aussie - forgetting he is a podcast movie reviewer!

The Aussie takes a hard stand but he slips up when he thinks the director Steve McQueen was in The Great Escape!

The Scotsman:  "Steve McQueen also directed 12 Years a Slave"

The Aussie replies: "There's a bigger film that that mate ..... The Great Escape when he rode the motorbike over the fence".....

long long long pause while the Aussie digs a deeper hole for himself.

The Scotsman:  "are you talking about Steve McQueen the....dead actor? ".

In terms of movie making this movie is unparalleled, unflinching - it is a masterclass in acting and a very important story.

A must watch from the Scotsman and a must miss by the Aussie.

You decide.
