This week we review the recently released (2 days ago) 2025 American superhero film Superman based on the eponymous character from DC Comics.
Written and directed by James Gunn, it is the first film in the DC Universe produced by DC Studios and the second reboot of the Superman film series.
David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*
In the film, Superman must prove to the world that he is their protector after billionaire Lex Luthor conducts a plan to turn public opinion against him.
We welcome Charlie to the studio - the Aussie's son - a big DC and Marvel fan and he loves Superman.
This is a re-imagining of the original Superman movie and character - true to the comic book.
For old school movie watchers like the Aussie and the Scotsman they prefer the Christopher Reeve Superman - BUT it is a re-imagining, a re-awakening of a franchise that lost it's way in the past couple of movies.
James Gunn has stayed true to the comic book and that's why 15 year old Charlie loves this movie. And why the old fossils don't. Charlie schools us. He educates us. He challenges us.
This is a great podcast. One of our longest - because Charlie brings a wealth of knowledge - with clear and concise arguments and information.
The Aussie has a dirty day in the back half of the podcast when he starts to get a bit tired - and makes all manner of mistakes. All taken in good jest and very funny.
This is by far a perfect movie regardless of which Superman you like - and we debate specific scenes and plot points - and SPOILER ALERT again, we are about to ruin some scenes for you.
Did you know the original creators sold the rights to Superman to DC Comics for $132 US - maybe the most lopsided deal in history - that and more trivia in one of our favourite reviews.
(EDIT - Millie Alcock is in Australia TV show Upright not Upside Down as the Scotsman says during the podcast)
