Wayne LowryAll right, everybody, I am here at Health Rising DPC. I am so excited to get to meet Doctor Jordan in-person. We've only talked on the phone. We've only seen each other across Google meet, but I'm going to go check out his DPC practice and share with you what I find out. Thanks for watching.
(00:56):
Jordan SalmonHi, I'm Dr. Jordan Salmon with Health Rising Direct Primary Care, happy to be here.
Wayne LowrySo Doctor Jordan, thank you for having me. This is an awesome clinic here in north side of Houston and the Humble area. So today is my first impression. I met Doctor Jordan a couple months ago, as you know.
Wayne LowryFor those of you that watched the podcast, you know that we've had Doctor Jordan on the podcast but this is the first time we've been in the same room. So Jordan, you've got a great practice.
(01:23):
Jordan SalmonYeah
Jordan SalmonThank you very much. Yeah. Good to have you here.
Wayne LowrySo tell me, what is it like to serve people in North Houston?
Jordan SalmonI think it's great. I mean, it's busy, busy area. You know lots of lots of things going on and it's still surprising to see that there's a lot of people, you know with everything that's going on. They really want that direct permanent care, personalized care, right.
(01:47):
Jordan SalmonIt's just what we offer.
Wayne Lowry
So living in this area, this Humble, TX area you are really not that far from downtown Houston, with the population of what, 34 million people?
Jordan SalmonYeah.
Wayne LowrySo. So do you have a lot of people that work in the city that live in this area or tell us a little bit about the kind of people you're serving.
Jordan SalmonYeah.
Jordan SalmonYeah, we’re close.
Jordan SalmonYeah. So we are really close to the downtown area. So a number of people who work downtown are able to utilize us and you know that's a great population of people that we have.
(02:18):
Jordan SalmonSome of the people don't work downtown though they just kind of work in this Humble area and we have some patients that don't even live in the Houston area, right. And they just travel to be where we are to get the service that we deliver.
Wayne LowryHey, that's a good testimony, right there!
Jordan SalmonThat is good. Yeah. Yeah, it's always good to have that.
Wayne LowrySo tell me a little bit about your practice as far as what are some of the things that you focus on? What are the things that you seem to kind of lean in on more?
(02:40):
Jordan SalmonYeah, I think. We really try and lean in on what I consider to be kind of root cause, right? Trying to get down to like,
Jordan Salmon“OK, where are these diseases coming from and how can we prevent them from occurring, right. And if we're already dealing with them, can we, like, get rid of them or can we try and find a way that we can live a life that maybe we don't need all the medications that we're currently on, can we take off some medications?”
(03:07):
Jordan SalmonAnd so, it's a lot of like lifestyle, a lot of working with patients on optimizing their health. As opposed to just trying to, I think insurance-based medicine is very reactive. It's kind of like “let's just wait, let's wait and see if problems happen”. We try and be proactive.
Wayne LowryYeah. So have you found much support in the DPC community in this area? Are there other DPC providers nearby?
(03:30):
Jordan SalmonYeah. So there's like a Houston network and some. I had some meetings with some of those other DPC providers. I mean it's such a big area, there's lots of room for lots of DPC’s and we love that. Right, so trying to just grow the movement
Wayne LowrySo how many DPC providers do you know in the Houston area?
Jordan SalmonI know personally at least 7 or 8 so yeah, they're kind of scattered all over.
(03:54):
Wayne LowryWell, I mean, with the population as big as Houston. Like you said, there's plenty of patients to go around. So I would imagine there's a lot of support opportunities within the DPC space having that cluster of providers. So I hope that those meetings are productive for you.
Jordan SalmonYeah.
Jordan SalmonIt's always good to just network other—I mean, we're all struggling with a lot of the same things. And so figuring out how to connect, how to work together and how to help solve each other's problems. I mean, that's always good to connect in those ways.
