We mamas tend to put ourselves last, don’t we? And while serving our families is a joy, sometimes we forget that God never asked us to run on empty. In this episode, I’ll share how busy moms can stop surviving and start thriving by letting the Lord refill their cups first.

Through practical scripture application (and even some homemaking tips!), I’ll help you see how meeting with God — even in short pockets of time — can bring smoother, more peaceful days with your little ones while you root them in Christ.

So grab your notebook and coffee, and let’s dig in!

Scriptures Discussed: 2 Peter 1:3 Proverbs 15:23 Proverbs 24:27 Luke 5:15–16 John 4:32 Mark 6:31 Psalm 127:1

(00:00):
if you're a mom
I'm sure you've had a day that was so chaotic
that you had to hide away in a closet
bathroom or kitchen just to have a moment of peace
no just me
well if you've never had to do that
that's amazing but ever since I became a mom
I have done this several times
just to give myself a bit of a breather

(00:20):
and I always ended up feeling bad that I had to do that
in my own home wondering why
I couldn't handle the ministry that God had entrusted
to me but
did you know that this is actually something Jesus
also did in his ministry
if you're new here welcome
my name is Chantelle and I share short

(00:41):
practical revelations
straight from my own walk with god to strengthen yours
my goal is to help you get your time in with the Lord
even during chaotic seasons of motherhood
that we all face from time to time
so please
spread the love
by sharing this word with another busy mama
who might benefit from the encouragement today
this week I gave birth to our fifth child

(01:02):
what I can't even believe I'm saying that
and what a blessing he's been
although I had a 30 hour labor
that was pretty challenging
I'm grateful to god for getting me through it
and delivering this child very smoothly at the end
god has such a funny way of showing
his incredible power through long struggles
doesn't he
Baby Judah was born August 12th around 8:00am

(01:23):
weighing 8 pounds he barely made a squeak of a cry
and was wide eyed and observant
the moment they laid him on my chest
even today a week later
his cries are very quiet
he's a very peaceful little guy
and pays close attention to detail
as he carefully observes facial features
and listens intently to voices
he's the calm to our chaos

(01:43):
and we all love him dearly already
that's not to say that our days are not
still a little bit hectic
I have four other children that are very busy people
Zach is 9 Zoe is 7
Elijah is 4 and Zuriel is one
and together just their sheer number
creates a volume in our household
that many would find a bit uncomfortable
but this is our life and we love it

(02:05):
most days I'm sure
there's still gonna be days
where I'm gonna need a moment of peace and quiet
in order to regain composure
when it feels like just too much
and my go to
has often been to escape to the safety of a bathroom
or kitchen where I then have a snack
take a breather
scroll some social media maybe and get back at it
and to be honest

(02:25):
this never really helped me ground myself
and I couldn't figure out why until recently
just before having our baby
I had a day that was way too much to handle
here at home and
with the aches and pains of the end of my pregnancy
my patience was short and my temper was hot
the volume of my kids seemed
way louder than ever before

(02:46):
and the smallest disobediences
were triggering me to constantly escalate
so away I went to my hiding place
but this time snacks weren't cutting it
social media it seemed unfulfilling
and so I was wondering how on earth am I gonna do this
with one more child on the way
the devil has a sneaky way of feeding us lies

(03:08):
and sometimes it's so subtle
that we wind up believing it for a long time
this was not some new question
I hadn't asked myself before
it had slowly been developing into a constant
subliminal thought for many months
leading up to this moment
and that's when I realized
I had been unknowingly
believing that god had given me too many children

(03:29):
to efficiently care for
the Lord asked me a simple question
do you trust me Chantelle
my knee jerk response was yes
obviously Lord
but my heart wanted to tell the truth
the painful hidden truth that even now
as I say out loud feels so awful
no Lord
I don't trust you I think you made a mistake

(03:51):
giving me so many kids to care for
and I don't think I'm doing a very good job
it's not like I could hide that truth from God anyway
but I think he asked me that
question because deep down
he wanted me to know exactly how I was feeling
it was so buried within me
that I hadn't even realized
I had been having those thoughts
until he showed them to me
but before the guilt and shame could take hold

(04:13):
I opened up my Bible on my phone
instead of social media and there
right on the front page of the app
was my daily verse and my answer to this dilemma
by his divine power god has given us everything
we need for living a godly life
we've received all of this by coming to know him
second Peter 1 verse three

(04:33):
that word at the right time hit the Mark
putting to death that wicked lie
that god had simply given me too many kids to care for
and that I was under qualified for the task
I couldn't argue it by God's power
not my own
I had been given everything I needed for a godly life
and the godly life god has given me

(04:54):
and probably you if you're still here
is to lead my children to Christ
and help them develop godly character
so then I had to confront the real issue
why was I feeling so incapable of this calling
the answer didn't come right away like I wished it had
I left that kitchen still feeling underqualified
and even a bit discouraged

(05:15):
but I held on to the word god had given me
and began trying to replace that lie with God's truth
by saying it out loud
every time negative thoughts came barreling in
this is way too hard Chantelle
you can't do this and I would counter with
God has given me everything I need to do this
it didn't come easily at first
resisting the devil with scripture like that

(05:36):
takes a lot of practice
and even the prompting of the Holy Spirit
and if we move too fast through our day
we can miss that prompting
and so as my week progressed
the challenges became even more intense
as we waited for our new baby to arrive
I took every spare moment to tap into the Lord
cleaving to him out of both desperation and excitement

(05:57):
and that's when he showed me an incredible image
I will never forget
he showed me something like a waterfall
and at the top was him
pouring the living water out of himself
below was a stack of cups
that were catching that living water
and filling up so much
that they overflowed into the cup beneath them
the first cup beneath god had my name on it

(06:21):
and below me was a cup for all of my children
and even beneath their cup was a cup that had the label
friends family members
and passers by that they would encounter later in life
but it all started with god pouring into me
first
I realized what god was trying to say
the last part of second Peter 1 says

(06:42):
we've received all of this by coming to know him
in other words yes
god has provided everything we need for a godly life
and it all flows out of knowing him
the more we prioritize that relationship
the more we can actually receive
and walk in what he's already given us
if we neglect that relationship

(07:03):
it's not that he withholds it
it's that we miss out on what he's pouring out
and that's when it hit me
I had been slacking in my meetings with him
before having four kids
I had been regularly getting my Bible time in
every single morning
I was handling motherhood a lot better too
because I I felt equipped to take on the day

(07:23):
even if it was chaotic but now that I had four children
and one about to be born
I felt underqualified and maybe even a bit outnumbered
but god does not call the qualified
he qualifies the called
and that qualification comes only by his Grace
not our own strength so even as I teach you this lesson

(07:44):
know that I am still learning it myself
I will never profess to be a perfect mama
that has all her ducks in a row
in fact sometimes I don't even know where they are okay
haha but
I will tell you
that this beautiful word that god gave me
came at just the right time
and it has totally shifted my perspective
going forward
Proverbs 15:23 says a word spoken in due season

(08:08):
how good it is it was such a powerful word
that I made a free printable for you guys
to take advantage of
and you don't need to sign up to anything
just go grab it the link will be somewhere
in the description of this video
or podcast depending which you're listening to
you can print it and put it on your prayer journal
or your wall or your fridge
to remind yourself that we mamas
need to first

(08:29):
be filled by god in order to overflow into others
ladies
we cannot keep demanding ourselves to run on empty
it's not God's will for us to constantly survive
so others can thrive let me encourage you
Proverbs 24:27 says prepare your outside work
make it fit for yourself in the field

(08:50):
and afterward build your house
there is no point in having a beautiful
home that you can't provide for
back in Bible times if you built your home first
and then prepped your land for food
you'd go hungry it wasn't ideal for people to rely
solely on buying their goods from the marketplaces
they often grew their own food

(09:10):
or bartered with neighbors or tradesmen
to provide for their households
but if they didn't do the necessary work
of prepping their field for growing food first
their families would starve
and Proverbs 31:16 paints a similar picture
she considers a field and buys it
and from her earnings she plants a Vineyard

(09:31):
for us mamas
those earnings are the time we spent with god
that's our true investment
and just like the Vineyard produces fruit later
our time with him produces a harvest of peace
wisdom and strength for our homes later
we are the fields that need that prep work done
before we can help to build successful families

(09:53):
more specifically our hearts
our cups need filling
before we can overflow into those entrusted to us
if we don't give ourselves permission to get with god
before we try to take on the ministry of motherhood
we do a great disservice to our husbands
our children and even ourselves
in Luke 5 15 to 16

(10:15):
Jesus is being discovered by the people
and it says great multitudes came together to hear
and to be healed by him of their infirmities
so he himself
often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed
the wilderness is simply a place where the multitudes
weren't
it was where Jesus could step away from the noise
to meet with his father and that's our example too

(10:38):
finding a small quiet place to be with god
away from all the demands pressing in
listen I didn't write this stuff
but I sure do appreciate that
God popped this in the Bible because guys
he's basically
giving us permission to do what we got to do
not to just survive these harder seasons of motherhood
but to thrive in them
and we can only thrive if we're eating the good stuff

(11:02):
in John chapter 4
the disciples implore Jesus to eat something
because he's working so hard in ministry
and in verse 32 he says
I have food to eat of which you do not know
as much as it's important for us to feed our flesh
we also need to feed our spirit
that daily bread that comes from time with god

(11:22):
lasts way longer than bacon and eggs ever could
but both are necessary and we shouldn't deprive
ourselves of either of these things
unless the Lord has told us to fast
Mark 6:31 says that
Jesus instructed his disciples to stop working
ministry for a time so they could take a break and eat
and he said to them
come aside by yourselves to a deserted place

(11:44):
and rest a while for there were many coming and going
and they did not even have time to eat
now maybe
you're a mama that has never considered that taking
a break from child rearing
is something necessary or
maybe you believe that needing that break
makes you a lesser person somehow
or maybe you know you need the break
but you have no way to actually get it consistently

(12:05):
so I wanna assure you
that breaks don't have to be away from your home
they just need to be away from immediate needs
and if
all you can manage is to put a TV show on
for your kiddos while you slip away around the
corner with a cup of coffee and a Bible
girl take it
you would be amazed at what god can do
with just a few minutes of quiet
he doesn't need an hour with you

(12:27):
he just needs your undivided attention
okay so here's your homework this week
I want you to start practicing
withdrawing from the multitudes
obviously some of us can't leave our very small babies
unsupervised in fact
I just bring my baby with me
to have these meetings with God
but if you have a toddler and some older children
there's nothing wrong with popping on a cartoon

(12:49):
for them to watch or busting out a cool activity
you never let them do so
that you can sneak away around the corner
or shut the door behind you in a nearby room
I personally
like to keep a busy basket for these occasions
and it's helped me tremendously
the activities that I put in this basket
are only for these moments

(13:09):
where I need a break
and I need everybody to kind of chill out for a bit
I put things in there like puzzles
or some beans and scoops and cups
things that are not dangerous for them to play with
without supervision
but might keep them busy for a little bit
it has been really
successful in allowing me to slip away for a minute
to get my cup filled listen

(13:30):
if Jesus needed breaks from ministry
so do you and I
sis Psalm 1:27 says unless the Lord builds a house
they labor in vain who built it
your family needs you rested and rooted in Christ
so do whatever it takes to get these still
small moments in with the Lord every day
and you know if you can't figure out how to do that
