“Taking the road less traveled is really challenging but can be worth it...I've had a lot of very deep low points that I don't want to gloss over when I talk about my life because it might sound like one big adventure, but it doesn't always feel that way when you're living in it. But at the same time, I do think that making some unconventional decisions has allowed me to get closer to what's right for me. And I don't feel like I've taken a lot of wrong turns because I haven't done anything that isn’t authentic to who I am, and that's a real gift.”
In this episode of Bounce Back Stronger, host Donna Ferris sits down with Zanny Merullo Steffgen, a freelance writer and travel enthusiast who has charted her own unique path in life. Zanny opens up about overcoming the challenges of living with cystic fibrosis, choosing travel and work over college, and finding her voice through writing. From bartending in Cambodia to penning award-nominated travel stories, Zanny shares her journey of resilience, cultural connection, and the lessons learned from taking the road less traveled.
She also talks about "Hi Zan, Hi Pa" - a unique Substack collaboration with her father, author, Roland Merullo." Information on the Substack and Zanny’s writing can be found at zannymerullosteffgen.com.
