La nivelul UE, mai precis între țările din UE, există diferențe mari în ceea ce privește accesul oamenilor la tehnologie. Încercăm să aflăm care sunt direcțiile către care ar trebui să se îndrepte atenția autorităților europene sau naționale pentru reducerea diferențelor existente chiar în interiorul statelor membre.
Raportul din 2024 al UE privind deceniul digital este un semnal de alarmă pentru atingerea țintelor digitale până în 2030. Progresele țărilor membre sunt analizate având în vedere patru domenii: infrastructură digitală, competențe digitale, digitalizarea serviciilor publice și digitalizarea întreprinderilor.
În România există discrepanțe foarte mari între mediul rural și cel urban în privința digitalizării, a autorităților locale, a școlilor sau în ceea ce privește accesul tinerilor la noua tehnologie și la modul cum să utilizeze această tehnologie fiind nevoie de o alfabetizare digitală pentru ca beneficiile acesteia să fie percepute la adevărata lor valoare.
