Vincent van Gogh settles in to Saint Paul de Mausole, where there was a gentle hush of order. Meals at regular hours, echoes of the soft pad of an attendants' footsteps in the corridor, the monastery bells marking time with their bronze exalt. Daily rhythms his life had never known. It is here that he begins some of his best works, and sees the swirling night sky from his room window.

Van Gogh settles his mind, produces a number of paintings and refines his ability considerably. Because of his progress the doctor believes he is now ready to leave Saint-Paul-de-Mausole. Vincent is very upset and suffers a lapse of anger at being uprooted.
