(00:02):
Hi, this is Richard Carlton, London. Clear Tales is a podcast of stories for
listeners with mild to moderate dementia.
In this podcast, we read stories to this underserved listening audience.
People who are challenged with
cognitive decline need more resources for entertainment and engagement.
Their caregivers need more tools. So that's where we come in.

(00:27):
Let's just listen to some brief clips from
circus jack chapter three
the dog napper after arriving
home the sun soon began its golden descent spreading its warmth across the fields
and farmhouse as it dipped below the rolling hills on the horizon the kitchen

(00:48):
came alive with the preparation of dinner soon the family gathered around the
table set with a bounty of spinach greens, corn, tomatoes,
Lancaster dairy cheese, and a loaf of freshly baked bread.
After acknowledging the bounty and saying grace, the family made quick work
of their meal, pushed back their plates, cleared the table, and completed their evening chores.

(01:12):
Dash came in from the fields with the last of the animals, as he rounded them
up for an overnighting in the barn.
Darkness began to gather, and the family began preparing for a night's rest.
Music.

(01:56):
It sure was lovely. You have just listened to the arabesque No. 1 from Claude Debussy.
This is taken from two arabesques, as it turns out, composed for piano by Claude
Debussy in Paris when he was still in his 20s.
That's really between the years of 1888 and 1891.
The suite is one of the very first impressions... Let's recap a little of the

(02:20):
story so far for Circus Jack.
The setting of this story is in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, during the late 1800s.
Our main character is a Jack Russell Terrier named Peppy.
He lives on a beautiful farm with his family and loves playing with the children.
Peppy also has a talent for entertaining people, which catches the eye of a dog napper.

(02:42):
One night, he is snatched away from his home in Pennsylvania and wakes up in
a chicken crate in the back of a wagon pulled by two men.
Chapter 5. Escape into the Woods We'll rest here for the night,
Frank said, swatting a mosquito.
The wagon moved at the pace of a single horse, in no hurry.

(03:02):
Tomorrow it's on to Baltimore and payment, he beamed.
We didn't settle the split of payment yet, partner, said Harry,
sitting beside Frank on the hardwood bench at the front of the wagon.
He looked at Frank with the dull eyes he inherited, beating his pants with his
second-hand cowboy hat to dispatch the day's road dust.

(03:26):
Music.
