In this episode of Check A Pro Radio Show, host Brandon Day dives into an essential question for homeowners: "When should I replace my AC unit?" With the hot and humid climate of places like Alabama, having a reliable air conditioning system is crucial. Brandon discusses the signs that it might be time to replace your AC, such as high energy bills and frequent repairs.

He explains that as systems age, their efficiency decreases, leading to higher costs and less comfort. Brandon also emphasizes the importance of peace of mind, comparing a dependable AC unit to a reliable vehicle. By upgrading to a newer, more efficient model, homeowners can enjoy better performance and avoid the headaches of constant maintenance.

Join us as we explore the reasons behind replacing an old AC unit and the benefits of staying ahead of potential failures. Whether for cost savings, improved efficiency, or just peace of mind, this episode offers valuable insights for anyone considering an upgrade.

(00:01):
In certain parts of the country, like Alabama, it's hot, need to have your air
conditioning system running well, a lot of humidity as well.
So you need to make sure that it's running well and that it's relatively new, or maybe not.
Brandon Day is joining me here to answer the question that came into the Check A Pro Radio Show.

(00:25):
When should I replace my AC units? That's That's a fair question. What's the answer?
That's kind of broad.
The answer could be broad. If you start having high energy bills and the maintenance
has been done, you know, and the equipment's running the best it can,

(00:46):
if it's just to alter efficiency, it's only going to do what it can do.
And everything degrades over time, meaning creates resistance to air.
So on a like a air air air
heat pump air air air conditioning you have to have smooth
products and efficient products over time to make it efficient over time that

(01:06):
degrades so when you start having more expensive failures it's often cheaper
to replace a unit than it is to order a part that's out of date or in the labor
and fault to replace that part we kind of start looking at about 13 years,
if we say a 13-year piece, will you start running your replacement to repair costs?

(01:31):
If you're having excessive power bills and still not comfortable,
I mean, there's several.
Some people just have high power bill, but they just keep it cold or hot,
whatever your climate is.
And you can say you just want to replace it to be able to make it not run long
to achieve that temperature easier. I mean, there's several different reasons.

(01:53):
Age and failure would be the reason we predominantly would recommend it to a customer.
Peace of mind is big, Brandon, right? Because when you go to bed at night or
you're away on a vacation or you're having a family reunion at your home,
you want to make sure that your air conditioning and heating system is running well.

(02:15):
It's kind of like a vehicle. I no longer drive a beater. When I was younger, I'd take the chance.
Today, I'm like, I want a reliable and safe vehicle.
So when I started up in the garage every day, I know I can get to work or get
to the doctor's appointment or go on that road trip.
The air conditioning system is no different. You want to make sure it kicks

(02:37):
on every day when it's supposed to and cool your home and pull the humidity out.
So sometimes, maybe after 10 or 13 years, you may want to consider starting
all over again because the technology has changed as well and it's more efficient
today, isn't it? Yes. Yes.
Yeah, drastically different. Yep. And that makes a huge difference.

(02:59):
And there are some customers who will put band-aids on things and others that
will be like, Brandon, let's just do this, right?
Let's just get rid of the old, I don't have time to worry about this because our lives are busy.
And it really is costly to wait for the technician to have to keep paying for
things and also sleeping at night. What is peace of mind worth?

(03:21):
And I truly believe that you should have your system looked at, have Daycool come out.
They'll take a look at it. If it needs to be repaired, you guys can repair it.
And if it's beyond repair, you can suggest different options.
Yep. Brandon, as always, thanks for joining me here on Check A Pro Radio.
Much appreciated. Yeah, thanks for having me.
