Die Operette "Vergeltsgott" (auch unter dem Titel "Der Bettelgraf" bekannt) ist das erste Bühnenwerk des Wiener Komponisten Leo Ascher und wurde im Oktober 1905 am Theater an der Wien uraufgeführt. Das Libretto stammt aus der Feder von Viktor Leon und schildert eine durchaus bemerkenswert originelle Operetten-Handlung. Im New York um die 19. Jahrhundertwende möchte der verarmte Graf Bogumil Karinsky ohne sein Geld nicht Leben und entschließt sich zu einer drastischen Handlung...
