Does your dog have back pain and you want to massage them at home but are worried you will hurt them?

It's common to feel scared or unsure when dealing with pain in our beloved dog, and that fear can stop us from taking action.  Today we are going to take the first steps in overcoming this fear.   In this episode, you will learn the signs of back pain in dogs, common causes, and when massage is safe or not.  This is the first of 3 special podcasts designed to help pet parents feel more competent and confident massaging their dog when they have back pain.

I'm Sarah MacKeigan and in addition to hosting this podcast, I am a physiotherapist and canine rehab therapist, and have created a detailed PDF guide that goes along with the next 3 pods (including this one) as my holiday gift to you and your dog.  Link is below the description.

This episode sets the foundational knowledge to get comfortable and get started with canine massage for low back pain. These episodes are designed to be a complement to professional veterinary care and include actionable steps for learning.  Be sure to download the pdf using the link below.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
