El Shibari tiene sus raíces en el Japón feudal, donde nació como una técnica de restricción llamada Hojojutsu. Esta práctica era utilizada por los samuráis para inmovilizar y transportar prisioneros de manera efectiva y simbólica. Cada clan desarrolló su propio estilo de ataduras, las cuales no solo cumplían una función práctica, sino que también comunicaban el estatus del prisionero y el delito cometido.
A pesar de su evolución, el Shibari conserva sus principios fundamentales: la comunicación, la confianza y el respeto entre quienes lo practican. Hoy en día, se encuentra en una intersección entre el arte, la performance y la exploración de la conexión humana.
