(00:05):
Welcome to Forrest.
Chat, where we talk about individualendeavor in Western Australia, what it
takes, what it means, and how you do it.
I'm your host, Paul van derMey, and we're not actually
having a normal episode today.
This is a Christmas episode.
And I wanted to take this opportunityto look back over the year and

(00:27):
show my gratitude for those peoplewho have been guests on Forrest.
Chat.
We've had some very interestingpeople on board during the year
and I'm grateful for each and everyone of them being on the show.
I did enjoy every interviewon the way through the year.
Some of them came up in ways thatwere a little bit unexpected, and

(00:49):
I'm very happy that that was able tocome together and create episodes.
In each episode I askedfour different questions.
The first question Iasked was, What is it?
Each and every person bringssomething to the table.
different to the table, and theyoperate in a different environment.
And that first question is about workingout just what this person had to face.

(01:13):
What sort of environment did theyhave to do their endeavor within?
Some of the guests had verystructured environments, and some had
pretty much self set environments.
That's the difference betweenwork and sport and art.
So that was very interesting to bringto you, that very broad range of people

(01:36):
doing all sorts of different things.
And I hope you enjoyed that variety.
The second question, what does it take?
And this is all about what theindividual needs to actually
get in and do what they do.
And there was a lot ofvariety in what we saw.
I ask this question to explore theset of abilities that the individual

(01:57):
engages in order to do what they do.
It's very important to have anunderstanding that it takes some skills
of some kind, or some resilience, or sometime, or some enthusiasm, some motivation,
in order to, go and do something.
Not all of the skills and not allof the characteristics that were

(02:19):
talked about, were difficult.
Many people share a lot of thecharacteristics that people spoke about.
It's interesting to think aboutthose characteristics and work
out which characteristics youhave and how you can apply them.
And even the same set ofcharacteristics can be applied
to many different activities.

(02:40):
And you may have noticed that someof them come up again and again.
So that question I'm hoping willgive you an idea that whatever your
set of abilities, There is somethingthat you can get out there and do.
The third question I ask is about meaning.
What it means to you, yourfamily, or the community.
This is a big question.

(03:00):
It's about having purpose.
Every time you do something, ithas an impact of some description.
Sometimes it's easy to describe.
It's maybe not always visible.
But it is incredibly important.
It's really what makes us tick.
Why on earth are we doing this?
So it's been very interestingto talk about that.

(03:21):
And one of the things I liked thebest was asking that question and
then having my guest respond in away that I didn't necessarily expect.
Because that broadenedmy horizons as well.
It was very interesting and veryrewarding to hear what makes people tick.
And the final question, how do you do it?
Each and every endeavor, there's usuallysome sort of startup that you need

(03:44):
to be aware of in order to get going.
In some cases, therewere courses or licenses.
in other cases, there were Systemsyou need to engage in, and in others,
it could be as simple as followinga website or talking to a group of
people, but each thing that peopledid, there was some sort of framework

(04:05):
or research that needed to be done.
And this is very easy to do thesedays, which is great for us.
And it was really great to hearthat many of the things were very
achievable for a good number of people.
Some things needed a high levelof investment before you get
going, and others not so much.
They were pretty easy to get into.

(04:25):
your capacity to research and resourcethat activity will allow you to determine
which activities were possible for you.
I'm very, very grateful to have beenable to bring this year of Forrest.
Chat to you.
We kicked off in April with four episodesand now we have over 40 episodes on the

(04:46):
register and I'm looking forward to 2025.
I've learnt a lot on the way through
This episode is comingout on Christmas day 2024.
I'm so glad that you could join methrough the year, and I wish you and your
family all the best for this Christmas.
