Singers talk a lot about technique. But what about emotional connection?

The truth is: if your voice doesn’t feel something, your audience won’t either. This breakdown covers how to tap into the emotional story of a song using sensory detail, imagination, and memory—not over-acting or fake drama. You’ll learn simple ways to make your performance more honest, grounded, and real... without having to “push” for it.

Whether you’re singing a breakup ballad or an upbeat anthem, emotional connection is the secret ingredient that turns notes into moments.

(00:00):
one of the

(00:00):
like a little exercise that I like to do to help uh
singers connect to their material a little bit more
especially when it's like a more deep kind of thing
maybe not espresso but you know yeah
break up song or whatever yeah
uh I have them write out a movie or a music video to it
like not actually like
and here in this part of the music video

(00:22):
I'm dancing on top of a car
like not that hahaha
not an actual music video
but just seeing the story play in your mind
yep who is there
where are you who are you talking to
and who's just around as well
what are you wearing what time of day is it
you know what's on your desk in your room
like just making it really

(00:44):
really really detailed
and I feel like the more details you can have
in your mind the more real it then starts feeling
it's cause it's easier to
it just feels more real right
cause it's like yeah
it's all it's all there
it's like I can see it
it's not like yeah
kind of whatever like no
I want you to see it in your brain
yeah

(01:12):
hey Vox Star and welcome to from singer to artist
I'm Lara Chapman award winning singer and songwriter
turned viral vocal coach and the host of this show
at VoxTape Studios
we help singers from all over the world
level up their voices
by teaching them the 3 fundamental skills
all singers need technique
awareness and artistry whether you're looking to go pro

(01:33):
or just develop your voice for fun
my team and I are here to help
check the link in the description
to book your first session
or grab some of our other resources
Alrighty are you ready let's get started
in the sense that we have words that we can use
unlike any other instrument
which means telling stories with our singing is

(01:55):
hopefully the main objective
when we're when we're performing
when we're sharing our singing
something I never Learned or I mean
I did eventually learn it but very late in my journey
but it's important that we are telling stories
and that we can emotionally connect to ourselves
to the song and therefore also to our audience
so today together with Coach Juliana

(02:17):
and Coach Emily from our team
we're gonna be talking about how to
emotionally connect to
to your song so that you can leave
a lasting impression with your audience
and not cause I feel like okay
you know what here's the thing right
like you're scrolling on Instagram right
and it's like an amazing singer and you like
double tap wow
lovely amazing scroll scroll scroll three videos later

(02:38):
another amazing singer wow
love it double tap moving on
but like you don't remember any of these singers
like you might remember their faces
but you don't know their names or anything really
you're not invested
but if you see a video where you're like
oh my God
like there's something like special about this
and it's not like
that was the craziest riff I've ever heard
not usually it's usually

(02:59):
something like that connects to you more deeply
that's when you get invested
and it's more than just double tap and moving on
and I kind of don't remember
you now you click on their profile
and now you go to their Spotify and you just
you know you get you get more invested
and people then remember you
and share your stuff with their friends

(03:20):
and so forth because I feel like hitting pretty notes
man like there's so many people that can do it
and because of the internet and because of social media
we are very aware of that
because everybody is posting all these singing clips
which I love that's a great thing
right
and also hahaha
it's more than just hitting pretty notes

(03:42):
oh yeah
oh my God yeah
and that's hahaha
I can I'll start with a take
if you're just singing the song and not
you know connected to the material you're singing
that's boring yeah
boring as hell yeah
for you as the singer and also for the audience
you know like
and we wanna see we wanna see art
we wanna see something that's

(04:03):
I always come back to the word alive
you know
we wanna see something living and breathing and human
that's the point I mean
that's why whole another conversation
but that's why like the AI
art is so off putting and the AI
voices is so weird and off putting
it's because there's no humanity
it's like
it's like you're playing a piano and just like
holding down the key till the next one

(04:25):
yeah yeah
yeah and it's the same like on the storytelling aspect
if you were reading a kids book with no emotion
it would be so boring the creepiest thing ever
yeah Little Red Riding Hood went to the forest and blah
blah blah like yeah
instead of Little Red Riding Hood went to the forest

(04:45):
and she even
and then like you put like the emotion behind it
and obviously
all the nuances that comes with singing without but um
there's just a lot more than the actual notes
and the technique of course
that's the foundation
and we can't get to storytelling without that
like please do that first and then watch this video

(05:06):
yeah
so that I circle back yeah
it's definitely needed like you can't really do
I mean a lot of people do it
but a lot of people ideally
you want a good foundation before you do that
you know in depth work of storytelling and artistry
and so Emily I've heard this from singers
that you have worked with in lessons

(05:26):
uh sometimes like yes
totally Juliana
I 100% agree I do it backwards
and sometimes you do it backwards
to get them to do the technique
that you're trying to get them to do
can you elaborate a little bit on that
absolutely there are
there are a couple people specifically I have
because there are some people who come into lessons
and are like I wanna sing every song and I'm so excited

(05:47):
and I have 10 songs in my mind and I wanna sing
and I have my guitar with me
and I just wanna jump right in
and that's like awesome I love that energy
it's really fun to bounce off
I find that so one of my intentions with any student
I think the point of all of this is to love music yeah
you know it's like that feeling

(06:08):
I don't know if you guys get this as teachers
but like when I'm at I was just at a concert
we were just at we were just at a concert
and then I was just at another concert
and I just like took a second
I looked around and like all these people are singing
all these people are singing
we're brought together in this community by music
it's this universal language
I remember at the Beyonce concert
there was somebody right behind us like it's just

(06:30):
there was this one song
and this lady was just screaming
she was so excited about it
and we were like yeah girl
get it get it
did it sound great absolutely not
who cares nobody cares though
yeah that's not the point
it's the joy it's the joy
so if finding
having joy in music and I'm a very academic person
so I'm like let's get into it

(06:51):
what's my tongue doing
what's the close quotation of my freaking vocal folds
I wanna know where my like I love all that stuff
and I know students who do
and I also know students who want
they're like no
let's do a quick warm up and like
let's just get I have like four songs I wanna do today
yeah right
and like obviously it varies
but yeah I will like
let that be the ticket in
because I think

(07:13):
technique and artistry are 100% intertwined
yeah 100% intertwined
because you need that foundation in order to yep sing
you know it's like in order to I
I can compare it to dancing'cause
it's something physical like
in order to be able to you know
hold an arabesque right
with your leg out behind you
you kind of

(07:33):
you have to train those muscles to know how to do that
you can't just like
stick your leg out and hope that it stays yeah right
it is actually a lot harder yes
than it looks they work so hard
so hard to make it look so easy
oh my God and girls
it's very humbling our warm up
our warm up was like maybe like 40 minutes
there were there were probably like
a couple minutes of just straight crunches

(07:55):
like you just go
you do it you just like
move your legs around to pretend that it's not as hard
you know yeah yeah yeah
yeah so like
but you have to you have to get there
in order to be able to sustain things
but yes I absolutely work the opposite way
depending on the energy that the student is bringing
right because I yeah
I don't want to remove the joy in the name of doing it

(08:17):
right yeah
no so for like
as an example maybe
you know if you're trying to sing breathy
for example and it's just like not clicking with them
and they just can't get that breathy sound
what you would maybe do
and please correct me if I'm wrong here
but yeah what you would maybe do is like okay
what's the emotion that we're trying to emit here
sadness okay
like how do you feel
like what's the sounds that you make when you're sad

(08:38):
pretend like you're really sad singing the song
and they kind of like
automatically go into a more lighter
breathier kind of tone exactly
exactly I connected to something there
I've been saying this thing
you're already doing everything you need to do to sing
haha yes
some things take more specificity right
but and more
more effort to sustain cause we're taking it out

(09:00):
but yes like exactly that
I had someone I was working with and we were just
we were working on the rhythm and it was like
she was right on the beat
but you kind of needed to sit back in it a little bit
it's one of those things that is a
a feeling and a vibe
and if on paper it was totally right
um and then I was like well okay
let's like try to capture the essence of the song

(09:20):
why don't you sing it like you're a snake
not like the whole time yeah
but like just imagine like
you're a snake in the grass
and then you see your prey and then you go
you wait you wait you wait and then you attack yeah
right
and because there was that like hesitance in the like
you wait you see
you see you patient you hold back on it
and then you can forward phrase the next part
like it's it connects you to the technical

(09:41):
to the technical aspect
without getting in your head about
I'm gonna be breathy right here
and then slowly firm up my voice as I get higher
now I'm at the climax you know
yeah yeah
yeah so I absolutely will do it backwards
backwards or just in that opposite order
um I yeah
I find that a lot with
beginners who are incredibly ambitious at the jump

(10:04):
hmm because one thing
one thing that I will never forget that I heard
this was actually
I heard this about working with young kids
but I think I it applies everywhere if you say
I'm not gonna do that with you in a lesson
there's gonna do it in the car
on the way there and on the way back
oh yes hahaha
you know like I'm gonna do that
I was probably guilty of that hahaha

(10:25):
I think we all have been of like
you know oh
well I didn't until college but whatever hahaha um
but yeah
like we all have experienced something like that so
and they're coming in with this
incredibly ambitious song
it's also it can be a moment where we're like ah
you know what in order to do that
we have a couple boxes we need to check
let's just step away from this for a second
check those boxes and then come back and see

(10:47):
see how we're feeling and then either that will
we'll have a successful run of the song after that
or because it's been 10 minutes
it won't be a permanent change
we'll be like you know what
why don't we just keep practicing this one thing
because then you can achieve what you're
you're aiming for
you'll you'll keep taking steps in that direction
yeah but they're intertwined yeah

(11:08):
I'll say it till the day I die haha yes
well and also like
we use all these different techniques to convey yeah
emotion right
like we add breathiness or we add more of a belty sound
or we add a riff or whatever to get the emotion yeah
across
so I wanna talk about like when you're singing a cover

(11:29):
sometimes you can pick the song that you're singing
so you just pick a song that
it might be a little bit more like
straight forward for you to connect to it
because you know exactly
like
the scenario that they're talking about in the song
and you're like yup
I can make that one on one connection
sometimes
you're singing a song where it's a little bit more like
personal experience is not quite there
it's a little bit more far fetched right

(11:50):
so this is actually something Coach Emily
you and Coach Kate were
oh and musical theater
we were exactly when I was doing the on my own
that song yeah
and we it was the musical theater episode
go check it out hahaha
like them teaching me how to sound more musical theater
anyways
and you were asked or I think Kate was asking me like

(12:13):
yeah can you relate like the
like not receiving the love back from somebody that
you loved very much and I'm like
actually I'm actually
no I'm pursued
everybody adores me no
like I mean
not in a romantic way uh
I never experienced that but like in friendship ways

(12:33):
absolutely I was yeah
heavily bullied in school
yeah right
so that's another form of love connect yeah
what we ended up connecting with was I was like well
have you ever wanted something that you could just
just couldn't get exactly
and I think as our as
oh my God as artist
like hello
that's the job
the job is going back to therapy and being like
I'm okay hahaha

(12:54):
and I'm gonna keep saying it out loud hahaha yeah
you know until I believe it
until I believe it and then eventually you do right
yeah yeah
so what are some things that we can do to
connect to a song
even if it's not like I have lived exactly
through what this person is singing about
and sometimes that's also like

(13:16):
you broke up with your boyfriend yesterday
and you're singing a breakup song today
and that's not safe for you emotionally
I actually think that's that's a huge thing
you want it whatever you're
you know however you're relating to your material
you need to be able to finish your song and go
LA LA LA
LA LA LA
yes like you need to um yeah

(13:39):
you need to there needs to be a connection
but also you need to be able to disconnect from it
absolutely yeah
Rachel Bay Jones was played the mom in Dear Evan Hansen
and she came to my undergrad to do a master class
and she said she sang this very
very emotional song towards the end of the show
um and she would just be like a puddle after that
and she would go off stage and her dresser

(14:00):
she had a quick chain
her dresser would whisper a new joke to her
every single time just to laugh
yeah cause you gotta snap out of it
yeah yeah
it's not safe it's not safe
no you are not
oh you're not a better artist for thinking that
your method
you're not a better artist for going through pain
like that does not make you
harming yourself and the what

(14:20):
and the people around you in the name of art
does not make you better
it makes you hard to work with yeah
and I think it's a good method to not be like okay
I have to feel it immediately and like resonate like no
you can learn how to in a way act
you know the feeling
or portray the emotion without it being like

(14:42):
I am so heartbroken I'm gonna cry oh yeah
so like what I do it's like
especially with younger students that I'm like
you have not lived yet oh yeah
and you're thinking like you're like 12 years old
and you write like these crazy like
he cheated on me yeah
I'm like okay and I'm like what are you really sure
no I'm like okay
let's pretend like let's imagine
let's pick a movie character

(15:03):
or like a TV show that you really like
and then let's like
put yourself in those shoes and like
what do you think you're feeling
and let's name those feelings
and what do they look like
and then your facial expressions are gonna mimic that
in the song in the lyrics
so the way you say face or face or face
it's gonna change the the tone and like the you know

(15:24):
yeah feeling that you're giving it
so I think it's
it's a good thing to think about for people
emotion doesn't have to be like
the real feeling all of the time
cause that's it also really hard
it's really hard and to bounce off that
it doesn't have to be that deep
no like especially when you're singing like a fun
when you're singing espresso
you don't have to be like ah

(15:45):
I miss so hard it's because I was pinned after yeah
it's that me espresso like yeah
it's really it's not like that
no it's
it's fun it can be fun
it you can also sing a deep song
like you said like while pretending
I think it was Ian Mckellen who played Gandalf
is that the right yeah yeah
yeah hearing yep
um who played Gandalf
so he was in an interview
and I have a friend who brings this up all the time um

(16:07):
he was in an interview and someone asked like
what his method of acting was
and he said well
I just pretend I'm a wizard
literally that was it hahaha yeah
that's as deep as it is I just pretend yeah
and like that was how I did
like how I went through musical theater school
cause I had no acting before yeah
and by the way I actually really truly
even if you're not singing musical theater

(16:28):
if you're singing pop or anything
I do recommend taking some acting class awesome
awesome I would always make fun of my mom for crying
when watching a movie growing up
and then I went to acting school and now I always cry
but not in a
in a way that's like everything deeply pains you like
yeah yes
but I'm just more connected to myself and my

(16:50):
my thoughts and my feelings
because I did acting classes yeah
that's one thing always recommend to singers yeah
take a couple of acting classes
you don't need to become an actor
no but take a couple acting classes
just to learn how to connect to yourself
yeah absolutely
so that's that's one thing
well bouncing off the acting classes
like I and the pretending yeah
my acting training is Meisner technique yes

(17:13):
that's what we did too yeah
yeah which is um
acting truthfully under the given circumstances right
under the the made up creative circumstances
how would you right how do you be a person in that
yeah and so
I think that is super applicable to like pop music yeah
you know
like it doesn't mean that we're gonna be acting as I

(17:33):
I will say when it comes to pop
especially when I'm working with musical theater
singers on pop because I do this too
I actually
I sing a song that some of my peers didn't know
that was a pop song and they were like
what genre is this and I was like
it's pop and they were like no
not the way you did it yeah
I was like OK alright
I'm I'm
I'm acting my beats a little bit

(17:53):
like we don't have to break things down by beats
some sometimes you got a vibe like the song is a vibe
sometimes it's text driven
sometimes it's Musically driven
I think you just gotta play around with what works for
what song for you yeah
yeah yeah
one of the
like a little exercise that I like to do to help uh

(18:13):
singers connect to their material a little bit more
especially when it's like a more deep kind of thing
maybe not espresso but
you know yeah
break up song or whatever yeah
uh I have them write out almost like a movie
like a a movie or a music video to it
like not actually like
and here in this part of the music video
I'm dancing on top of a car

(18:34):
like not that hahaha
not an actual music video
but just seeing the story play in your mind
yep who is there
where are you who are you talking to
and who's just around as well
what are you wearing what time of day is it
you know what's on your desk in your room
like just making it really

(18:55):
really really detailed
and I feel like the more details you can have
in your mind the more real it then starts feeling
it's cause it's easier to
it just feels more real right
cause it's like yeah
it's all it's all there
it's like I can see it
it's not like yeah
kind of whatever like no
I want you to see it in your brain yeah
that

(19:15):
yeah absolutely
that to me the
especially what you just described is how
it's a great way to start bridging the gap between
emotional feelings and emotional expression
because you can be I've
you know
I've worked with people and they sing the entire song
and I'm like
all right
they're not connected to this material and they're like

(19:36):
this is so hard for me it's so sad
I'm you know
like I connect so much and I'm like
hmm doesn't translate that didn't read yeah
I had no idea yeah
but there
because there is a difference between especially
I mean that's another great reason
is you to take an acting class
like to learn how to get it out yes
instead of just be like
I'm feeling but your face is right

(19:57):
not giving your voice not giving
but when you start thinking about who am I talking to
okay I'm talking to an ex partner
well that's gonna have a certain tone yeah
so we're not gonna start out with um
hey how are you
it's gonna be like hey
how are you right yeah
just a little bit more pissed on the tone yeah
immediately yeah

(20:18):
where are you are you in a public space
and you're keeping your voice down
do you not care and your voice is raising
are you sitting in bed right next to each other
are you talking across the kitchen table
you know like yeah
now we're talking about your dynamics
do they get up and move around
I had I've had acting teachers
you know like make them the the
the goal of the exercise is to make them turn around

(20:38):
and they just
they're just walking in the other direction
and you need to act haha
yeah and you need to convince them through the text
in the song through your voice to turn around that it
that they have to turn around and engage
and engage with you right
and that's a
that's a great acting exercise that I've done
I've done with voice students

(20:59):
just especially when it comes to belting yeah
when they're just when it's just like I have a hot take
hot take we talk a lot about um belt
this belt is shouty or not shouty or mixed or this
I think very often
a shouty belt is just an unconnected belt
it's you're going through the motions of belting

(21:22):
you're doing the the volume
you're doing the the AB engagement
you're doing the air flow
you're doing the mix enough
but it's reading as this yeah
yeah because it's not driven from anything
oh that is interesting because when are we talk
when do we talk without passion
or when do we talk loudly without passion
yeah you know
like that's very true yeah

(21:43):
it's and those are the videos that you see online
that you're like okay
exactly cause yeah
you're doing all these runs
you're doing these crazy high notes and whatever
but there's like nothing yeah
behind them nothing going on
so or maybe there is
but it's not translating vocally or on their face
yeah well
uh Juliana

(22:04):
you're working with Angelica
um for all the time
she's awesome and she is also like a writer too
so she releases original music
and I remember I was working with her
this was months or maybe more than a year ago now
where I did this exercise with her
she was like OK
I love this song and it means so much to me

(22:25):
but for some reason
I'm having a hard time connecting to it
even though like it means so much
and so I was like alright
let's write out this movie
that's playing out in your head
where are you what's happening
and then so we just talked about this
but then I like to take it a step further too
and be like okay
cool second verse
well this is different now
uh huh so

(22:46):
let's just not keep doing the same thing again
and again and this is
it kind of it goes hand in hand with songwriting
yeah because like you wanna continue the
like moving the story along
like it's if you're watching a movie
you're not watching the same scene over and over
and over and over and over again
maybe with a different script
like a couple different words

(23:07):
but the gist of it is still the same thing like
oh my God how boring would that be right
oh my God yeah
and so when we write songs
we always want to make sure that the story is evolving
but also when we sing songs
the story should also be evolving
so maybe your second verse
or even just your chorus
is a different scene than your first verse
and maybe the second chorus

(23:28):
because now of the second verse
it kind of changed the meaning yeah
so maybe the second chorus is also a different scene
than the first chorus
like what I'm trying to say is keep the story evolving
and if you're
if that means you're now talking to a different person
that's okay too
if that means you're now in a different place
you went from the bedroom to now you're in public
like it doesn't like

(23:48):
have to make sense
because you're not actually making a movie
yeah right
but if it makes sense to you
and that helps you connect to it
and it reads exactly then that's
that's what matters but keep it moving
keep it evolving yeah
and I think a lot of the time
what I tell people is like
what's the intention with this action
like like yes
we can paint a picture we can be like

(24:09):
I want um
I want this to be like super emotional
whatever it's like OK
but like what is the intention of the first verse
like I wanna be vulnerable
I wanna be softer like OK
how do we do that how do we get that sound
yeah how does that look
and then like OK
now let's move on to the chorus
like what is that intention
OK it's opening up OK
what do we do then yeah
so that is kind of like a little bit more specific

(24:33):
cause sometimes the feeling can be too big
and we don't know what to do with it yeah
it's like OK
let's connect and that's like that
you know expression way yeah
especially if you're not like
constantly working on your emotional intelligence
which a lot of people aren't
not everyone's chipping away at therapy
no you know
and like

(24:54):
I'm not gonna tell you what to do
but therapy has been awesome for me
yeah right
but like you the
sometimes the feeling is too big
and often we jump to anger um
or we jump to like we have like joy
anger and sadness you know
I'm not a therapist so someone
you know correct me in the comments
yeah but um
you know we jump to spectrum
yeah the big thing

(25:15):
but it's like angry is yeah
angry is boring to see let's see what gets you there
and then let's pick that apart
and what does that sound like
because there's angry where I'm like
so mad and yelling at you
and then there's like
I'm trying not to be angry right now
there's like
okay um
let me process my thoughts
and now I'm naturally sustaining my notes

(25:37):
because that's how I'm processing you
know like it
it all you know
it ends up in speech mm hmm yep
mm hmm yeah
I love all of this this is all great
oh my gosh okay
so we have the movie we have the
the processing and then we like okay
how this is translate
and then we have like the different um
oh before we go into that

(25:59):
any other tips to emotionally connect to your material
um so that at least the internal connection is there
whether it translates or not just yet
but just like connecting to it
I feel like a good
I don't know if a lot of people connect to this
but sometimes I think of the song as like colors
yeah and like sections as colors

(26:21):
synesthesia or whatever it's called yeah
not every person will have that and do that
but I think it's important
for some people who do have that
to connect to that specific feeling color
whatever before you hit play
I have a lot of students are like OK
I'm ready and then they go and say
whoa whoa whoa
like take a breath take a beat yeah
remind yourself what's my intention with this song

(26:42):
what is the feeling what am I telling
what's the story and then hit play before
like rushing through the motions
always take a cleansing breath before yeah
cleansing breath but really
I think about like inhaling my circumstance
and exhaling whatever I'm holding on to right right
so like once I'm ex once I'm
once I've exhaled I'm in

(27:04):
I'm in and it's not always pop
or it's not always musical theater where I do that
like sometimes it's pop yeah
a lot of the times it's pop
a lot of the time it's pop yeah
for me absolutely yeah
yeah
so okay
these are all like these are great tips
thank you so much
and then you have the other half where it's like
okay now we have to actually get it to translate yeah

(27:24):
and this is where we get more into what tone conveys
what emotion what embellishment conveys what emotion
and I think that's a whole separate episode
yeah I think so too
yeah so I uh
if you don't have anything else
I think we're gonna end it there
yes I have a quick thing yeah
two things one is really short one uh
but it falls under the the end falls under the umbrella

(27:45):
okay sometimes I think it goes back to when I mentioned
are you gonna be text forward or Musically forward
or like how are you leading your emotional expression
um
like for me in rock songs
I as a general rule of thumb
you start big and you start big
and then you pull it back and then you get big again
and then you pull it back

(28:05):
and it's a lot of like that sort of back and forth um
so going back to when
you talked about like the arc of a song
not every journey is this
which oh no
is not what you said out yeah
but I wanna use my hands on camera
like not every journey is this sometimes it's like
yeah up and down
up and down yeah
songs have dynamics
and the voice and emotion should follow that too

(28:28):
yeah yeah
it makes sense but you
but you even see it in like um
like some Adele songs yeah
you've been on my mind
I've no fun there and then she pulls back right
and then she builds it again
yeah yeah
yeah so it's just up and down
up and down keep the energy
yeah like I was working with someone and I was
and they just couldn't quite get the start of this song

(28:49):
they were like I feel like it's a little flat
and if it's not flat it's boring
I was like you know
yeah I feel good
yeah start your song as if that's how you're starting
and it just like made the song electric
you know and it's like
oh yeah
you can just sometimes you can just go for the vibe
yeah sometimes you can go for the vibe
and if you're specific in what you're trying to convey

(29:12):
it'll read well and it
guess what just having a good time
yes we'll read yes
oh my God my gosh
yeah like that's a sort of connection
like a form of connection too yeah yeah and I feel like
another important thing
and I always go back to the mirror
I'm obsessed with mirrors
but I mean just like in acting

(29:34):
your face is part of the action and the instrument
so if you're singing a super sad song
and you're like
using all the techniques and being vulnerable
but your face is like this
we're not gonna feel it
and that might go more into like the the actual
you know putting in action the feeling
but use your face like if you're mad
how does that look like if you're sad

(29:54):
how does that look if you're happy
how does that look like yeah
just like really learn how to move your face
that was something that I Learned the end of undergrad
I because musical theater trained
and then I was filling out my book
and I had some rock in there
and I am used to being very text forward
I'm not showing my technique on my face right
so it's kind of a little different

(30:15):
cause I was showing my acting on my face
but I wasn't showing my technique on my face
and I sang this rock song and I was like
this just isn't reading right
and then I re recorded it
but I pretended like it was hard
hmm and I was singing my little ass conversation right
and like just like going for it
like I sing Barracuda for something and I like

(30:35):
leaned back and tilted the mic up and like
I really I can do it right here
burn burn burn
right like yeah
and I'm doing the exact same thing as if I were like
slamming it I just had this conversation with someone
where it's like sometimes you gotta put on a show yeah
yes and that tells the intention as well
yes because if you're not believing that this
it's a powerful no then no one will yes exactly yeah

(30:57):
like are are you sending the energy through it yeah
I love that
I love that that already goes into performance
but it's it's a very important part of this yeah
of this topic is again at the end of the day
it has to read yeah
yes we wanna watch something fun yeah
we're gonna have a good time yes
I love it awesome
very cool thank you ladies

(31:18):
yeah
thanks for being here thanks for having us
yes of course
of course thank you for tuning in
I hope this was helpful

where to book a session we're happy to help you out
