In this milestone 100th episode, host Jennifer Bosma welcomes veteran preschool teachers with a collective 58 years of teaching children, Kathleen Pernick and Katie Maisonville. Together, they unpack what current research says about young children and screen time.
They share real classroom observations—language delays, short attention spans, weak motor skills, dysregulation, and eyesight concerns—and explain why interactive, serve-and-return relationships beat passive screens.
With a no-judgment tone, the trio offers practical swaps: reserve TV-only, story-based shows; create restaurant and car activity bags; sing, read, cook, and play together; and reset family habits with clear, hopeful conversations.
They also discuss when limited screens make sense (like flights), how to model healthier tech use, and where to find their unplug-and-play ideas and resources in the show notes.
This episode will embolden moms and dads to get their children away from the passive learning associated with screen time and help develop them into healthy students with a zeal to grow in the classroom and an ability to learn.
