Peter Heine Nielsen är inte bara tränare till världens bästa spelare Magnus Carlsen. Han är också en mycket engagerad aktivist när det gäller att stoppa Rysslands krig mot Ukraina och mer konkret att stoppa Rysslands makt i världsschackförbundet FIDE.
I senaste presidentvalet i FIDE utmanades sittande presidenten Arkadij Dvorkovitj från Ryssland av ukrainaren Andrey Baryshpolets, och vid Baryshpolets sida ställde Nielsen upp som kandidat till vice-president! Men Dvorkovitj sitter fortfarande kvar, och har liksom Putin lyckats få bort paragrafen om att man bara kan sitta som president i två perioder.
