Der Apostel Paulus rückt im Brief an die Kolosser die zentrale Wahrheit des Evangeliums in den Mittelpunkt: Jesus Christus ist allein genug, denn in ihm wohnt die ganze Fülle der Gottheit leibhaftig und in ihm sind allein die vollkommene Erlösung und die endgültige Überwindung von Sünde, Tod und Teufel vollzogen. Er warnt davor, sich von menschlichen Philosophien, leeren Überlieferungen oder Zusatzoffenbarungen abbringen zu lassen, die den Blick vom alleinigen Heil in Christus ablenken, denn der Glaube ist nicht eine Leistung, sondern eine tiefe, wurzelhafte Verbindung mit Christus, die automatisch in Dankbarkeit und innerer Stabilität mündet. Durch die Taufe wird der Mensch mit Christus begraben und auferweckt, seine Schuld ist vergeben, die Schuldschrift am Kreuz zerrissen, und der Teufel ist öffentlich entwaffnet und am Pranger gestellt, sodass der Sieg Christi nicht nur eine historische Tatsache, sondern die Grundlage für das tägliche Leben im Glauben ist, in dem jeder Christ in der Fülle Gottes bereits vollendet und frei ist.
