Happy, happy AFL podcast. Go, go, go.
(00:02):
Welcome back to the second episodeof the Happy, Happy AFL podcast.
Go, go, go!
Yes, we figured out a namebetween this recording in the last one.
You're very, very welcome. Deal with it.
With us today,we have myself, Morgan Lewis, a.k.a.
The Countess.
Hello, Diana.
Who is fine either way. Hi, I'm Diana.
I am one of the co-directors here at AnimeFestival Orlando.
(00:25):
We have David. Hi, I'm David. I'm not.
We have Brian.
I am also not David, but I am the marketing manager for.
Hello.
And last but not least, we have Misha.
Hi, I'm Misha.
And I work with Morgan Lafe in GameShow Theater.
And I guess that says I'm MorganLe and I help run game show theater
(00:46):
and kind of do it.
Dave didn't say
with running a whole bunch of other stuffthat no one ever knows about.
That's kind of what your job is,right, David?
Yeah, there's
there's, there's
the job that goes on the business card, and then there's the 20 other jobs
that we also do.
Yeah, like running a podcast.
Like running a podcast.
Running a podcast, which with the conceit of this podcast is
(01:08):
we kind of explain last time who we were, what we what got us into coming to anime
conventions, what ended up on staff like, you know, I want a game show.
Some people just kept showing up,other people got hosted into it
or hoisted into it, executed into it.
The questionthen is so everyone knows how we got here.
What do we do?
(01:29):
What is itlike being a co-director of a convention?
What is itlike being the marketing director?
What is it like being the personthat I told the two things
when I need to have them do things?
Because technically you're under me.
Misha yeah.
And in the org chartand I don't even know what I do.
So sometimespeople do that tell me that. And then
(01:50):
besidesthat, I think we should have the person
with the most seniority of positions, not how many times
they've been at the convention.
Go first. So, Miss Diana,
the floor is yours.
Well, first of all,
I feel rather called outand not having gone to the most opposed.
As soon as I get the time machinegoing to fix that.
And then you can also wear Ryan's face.
(02:11):
I'm going to go those years thatyou missed when you were not in America.
You know,
there is another option here
as a co-director, you could just holda bunch of photos over the course
of a weekend that nobody knows aboutand pump your numbers up.
You could do that. But here's the thing, okay?
There is only and technicallyI didn't miss it because legally
(02:31):
I was living in Japan at the timeand I was working with Steve Bennett,
who we had as a guest and passed officialsand Eric and Karen
both said that counted as an effortfor me.
And at one at the timecosplayed me at the convention that year.
I feel like if you have to say legallybefore your explanation as to why
something counts, itprobably shouldn't by I'm
(02:52):
going to plead the tell on advice,be counsel.
I don't know. I'm not a lawyer.
I'm barely even a person.
Okay?
I feel likeI feel that you are a lawyer, but
I feel like the Countess of all peopleshould be able to say what counts.
The Captain.
I'm not it out.
However, I'm not the count.
I'm the Countess. But
(03:14):
the Countess, if you will.
But yeah, I have been to a if in person.
I have been to every AFOexcept for one in spirit.
I've been to every AFO and how many?
And so since that
22. 22 AFO Ha ha ha.
Yeah,
(03:36):
I don't.
And you know what?
And I've been to zero pool parties.
I have never had pool.
I have never been allowed tobecause I've always been on staff
before I even knew about the pool party.
That's how coolI felt as both inside and outside of AFO.
Like you've never been to a pool party, like with your family or friends.
(03:59):
Your you inside that Florida,
you know, how white am I?
Get this scandal. that is very fair.
The only time Morgan is indeed very fair.
That is what she said whenever he hadthe only time you've ever seen me in
water has been at nightwhen we've had actually dating.
That would be a pool party. The staff party. Yeah.
(04:21):
So. Okay.
Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers.
We have the whole concept is gone.
The mystique is gone.
That is actually the pool partywe don't talk about is the staff pool
party.
So yeah, as co-director of AnimeFestival Orlando,
what I do isI just host a giant pool party
and when the director allegedly actually,
(04:44):
allegedly alleges pool party, No,I mean, I have pool sport.
I have pool party that doesn't exist.
Stories.
But that was all before I was a volunteer.
Yeah, all of us for imagine. yeah.
Imaginegoing to AFO and not working at it.
Yeah.
wow. That would.
(05:05):
Yeah, I can actually imagine that.
That was me for a very long time until someone just was like,
You would be great, great at it, and like, talked me into it.
You'd be so good at it.
And I was like, Thanks, but this isn'tI don't feel like this is about me.
We should be talking about Diana.
Wonderful director.
I'm totally not tryingto sidetrack this conversation
(05:26):
and not talk about like,
is itbecause you'd have to define what you do
instead of being a mystery?
I think there are three directors, first off.
So we all we have.
How long do you guys have triumvirate,if you will, to triumph
and as long as you want.
I think the person on the WestCoast is fine.
I don't know about the personon the East Coast who woke up at 6 a.m.
(05:49):
to go to the gym this morning.
But we'll see.
Hey, for all you know, I woke upto go to the gym this morning at six.
I don't think that happened.
I so it was it was actually 530 and it wasWednesday and I'm still kind of sore.
So. No, I did not think that.
Yeah, no, that's very fair.
Who is this gym you talk.
Good thing I haven't gotten to 530 yet.
There's there's not a there's this wasn't
(06:11):
this, this wasn't a plan.
I woke up at 530 and said, you know what?
I haven't been to the gym in fouror five quarters, so it seems about time.
But we're her pals.
Correctly ordered at the gym, almost.
But it hasn't been three years.
Wait, has it? When was COVID?
Yesterday? Three years ago.
(06:32):
And tomorrow all at the same time.
So you do a lot of different thingsfor the convention.
What is the main thing you do?
I direct projects and marketing.
So my title is Director of Projectsand Marketing.
So most of what I do kind of sort of fallsunder those two categories.
Technically, yes.
A lot of what I do is delegate.
(06:52):
It is very exciting. I love it.
But in all seriousness,I kind of work on a lot of the
behind the scenes of the behindthe scenes,
making sure that our messaging
is cohesive, making sure
that all of the productsand things that we get
(07:15):
for the conventionarrive are ordered off, things like that.
Make surethat all of the individual projects
that different departmentsare working on happen.
So yeah, a lot of just very spreadsheet
kind of workI guess is what I do for the convention.
And to some degree I also helpon the Internet side of things.
(07:41):
I am a digital marketer by trade as ofa few years ago, which is very exciting.
And every once in a whileI happen there where I can.
So yeah, I think that pretty much sums up
what I do without all of the side thingsthat I also do.
And it and itand it segways nicely into Brian
(08:02):
the marketing that I was goingto throw Brian under the bus now
because he's under your your bucket right.
So your purviewif you will under the bucket.
I thinkthe branch it's an organization chart
so there's like a branch and it's likelittle me he just told me they will go
right out there, say, okay,I got an umbrella.
(08:24):
Yes, yes,we are an umbrella corp, which we are.
great answer. And joke about Wesker.
No, I was going to sayyou can stand under umbrella.
Ella. Ella. Hey.
Trying to synchronizethis was not the move.
I'll fix it in post.
We need to.
We need to have the abilityto carry a tune, and that.
(08:45):
That just doesn't work.
I can carry that tune.
No, wait.
I can carry a can of tuna. That was it. Yeah.
Look, you give me a karaoke mic, you know,so we're going to have to do this
mission. Myself went to karaokelast Friday.
We're going to. Yeah, like, yes.
Be the yes, Our dream came true.
(09:05):
Well, at least my dream came truebecause I didn't live in Japan.
And I got to experiencewhat it's like to karaoke.
Just like on a get to go
an anime about ago
who lives her day to day life in an office
setting but goes to the karaoke lounge.
(09:28):
You know, with her friends to,
like, blow off some steamsinging metal music or whatever.
That's so that's what we did.
You sang deathmetal in the karaoke bar. Yes.
So I'm hearing I want to we need to do a staff karaoke.
That's what I'm saying. Exactly. Karaoke?
Yeah, you can record it.
this will be full disclosure.
I will do back me take as the Yakuza.
(09:50):
And I've been. Yes, like a dragon, so.
nice.
Yes, but we're actuallyin a may and video games
in a podcastabout running an animation version.
How did this happen? The description itself would
you mean?
We went on a tangent.
We actually went on so many tangents
that we circled back aroundto where we started.
(10:10):
Yes. Yes.
That to me,that's the power of the power of five.
ADHD is
we Barb and then and whatever thefour of you have because I've got five.
Okay, that's going to be like,I didn't, I didn't say what I had.
But with our, with our different disorderscombined, we are Captain planet
I don't know withour was going to go with Voltron
(10:31):
there's is better volts than Coltrane'slittle Tran though.
Yeah it's the the the DSM V Voltron third
the D Anyway, the DSM-V.
It works perfectly, honestly. Brian
extrovert that way.
Okay.
Okay.
(10:52):
So as I am the marketing manager,I do report directly to Diana.
What I handle is everything you see onsocial media is me
and my lovely assistant, CC,who is obviously not on the podcast yet.
Yeah, that also covers running AD campaigns,
planning out tables at conventions.
(11:13):
You're going to see a lot of us
at local conventionsand maybe even further than local.
Maybe around the country.
We'll see.
There are plants a littlea little behind the scenes.
This whole podcast idea came outbecause I was boothbay bathing with Brian.
Yes, at a conventioncalled Hall Matt or Holiday Matsuri.
You probably know about.
(11:34):
You probably heard about this.
You don't it's an innocent Christmasand make mention It was the first home
I actually went to.
So but it's the one of my greatmany hall mats that I've gotten to.
Yeah I like I say soI could say like I've been to every AFO,
but I totally will say like, yeah, that's about it when it comes.
(11:54):
Well, I was at every Joy-Con conexcept for the last one
and my first one was the last one a
while.
Beautiful.
I just.
I'll start off now and let you finishabout how you market things to people's
to have them come and check us out, which includes this podcast
because this is an insidious way to marketthe convention.
(12:14):
People make sure to slam thethat like button.
Click and subscribe.
You like it? Subscribe.
Hit that bell like button.
We want that for your listand send the link to.
If you send the linkto five of your friends
and get each of them to send the link
to five of their friends, we won't give you anything, but thank you.
We would appreciate that.
(12:35):
And check out our Patreonthat we don't have yet.
But we do have because you editor
can you just put the Patreonlink on the screen?
Thanks. Right.
And then also check out our YouTubechannel,
which we do have livestream up out,but it doesn't have a lot but it will
be the secret to running an animeconvention is
(12:56):
you can't actually have all of your stufftogether.
You have to something has to go wrong.
And in this caseit was the YouTube channel.
We got a Tik Tok in its place.
I feel like that's something I'm not.
I'm not big on the clock app,but I know a lot of people are.
So, I mean, I'mnot with the text or the talks.
What is the Tik tok?
No, I know what the tik tok be. Okay.
(13:17):
I kind of get the tiktoks.
I really do.
It's just it's like it's like, fine,but worse.
Yeah, it's like, fine, but worse.
Yeah, that's why. But longer.
And who really needs it that I don't.
That's what I'm saying.
Yeah.
7 seconds is more than enough timefor comedy.
Yeah.
And why is this podcast alreadyrunning for 15 minutes?
(13:37):
Okay, once we ended this down and we'veonly got like 4 minutes of usable podcast,
so I think we're okay,
Make sure to make sure to join our Patreonfor the full unedited podcast.
I was going to say,
know the 2 hours of fire of audiofrom the last one, join our Patreon
6 hours of unusable content later in six.
And why would you want that?
(13:58):
But also more power to you if you doand what post to bring anyway.
And if you have if you're at the hundreddollar tier, you get to see the chat.
If you're at the thousand dollar tier, you get to see the video that we're doing.
And then if you actually come to theconvention, we're hoping to get your life.
Yeah. So yes, we'll do it live, people.
Yeah.
Make sure to come by the happyHappy Anime Festival Orlando Podcast.
(14:19):
Go, go, go.
Live edition on main eventswhenever we schedule it.
Well, I know we will.
We haven't said anything yet. Look, I can.
I will throw down my weightand say we're doing this on stage.
Yes, we've never said one.
So I'm excited for all 12 of the listenersto join us on on that day.
It'll kind of be like thatworst worst panel at all
(14:43):
Mat or worse, it will be the worst panelat anime Festival Orlando, I'm sure.
I'm certain.
no, no.
I could do worse. Trust me, the stuffI run is horrible.
What are you talking about?
The stuff we run is probably delightful.
No, that's horrible. With a wage, right?
That's horror.
No, that's.
That's after, that's, that's,that's Friday nights usually.
Yeah. Yeah.
That's, yeah.
That's, that's in the 18 plus panels only.
(15:04):
Sorry kids. Yep, yep, yep. Yeah.
We have to see you before it'll be an 18plus podcast.
Samberg We might be doing it.
We'll figure it out there.
I got it.
We have to make a second podcastcalled a Happy Happy Anime Festival
Orlando podcast. Go, go, Go After Dark.
And that's the onewhere we check the explicit box.
No, it's the it's the exact same podcast.
(15:25):
Only nobody's wearing clothes, still no video.
So it's basically the same thing.
It is, but I guess you can imagine.
I mean, you're wearing clothes.
I when I got home, I just.
I'm letting the girls hang out. Don't lie.
I'm at your house right now, okay?
I need you all to understandthat the the amount of time between me
getting home and joiningthis call was approximately 45 seconds.
(15:47):
Well, last time you got Kate into it, so,yeah, completely by mistake.
It was great. And it was beautifuland it was perfect.
And I just I can't I can't expresshow grateful I am that you did.
I can't express how grateful I ambecause your audio saved us. Yes.
That's that's what I do.
I good audio and it's okay. Yeah.
(16:09):
There's your behind the scenes insightand how the sausage disaster gets made.
Yeah.
This is this is how thethis is how the podcast sausage is made.
I'm excited for the the the. God.
What the happy, happy, happy, happy anime festival Orlando podcast.
Go, go, go. Behind the scenespodcast. Go, go, go.
Is that joke?
Would have worked better written downsince this thing is all
(16:31):
that if you're going to work betterwritten down
after dark the podcast so brutal for SEOand that's another thing.
SEO Yes,that falls under my purview as well.
When you Google us, number one results a athat's a lot of work.
But yeah, like I said, my main focus
will be ultimately making surethat you know that our convention
(16:53):
exists, who's going to be thereand the reasons why you should join us.
That's my that's my whole job.
That's my job.
And what are the reasonswhy you should join us?
Because we rule, but more specifically,
more megaconthat happened this past week, for example.
And it was a sea of so many people.
And yeah, that'sthat's overwhelming to some people.
(17:16):
Some people don't want 40,000 peoplemaybe you want.
Yeah, we aim for underwhelming here.
We aim for intimacy.
Yeah, we do. We aim for fine.
We aim for not being stuck in like,I don't know,
just a C, a C, appropriate, a C of people.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We want to be able to do things.
(17:37):
Yes. Yeah.
So it's like it's. It's just we and also.
Yeah, we want you to be able to do thingsbecause you know, at Mega, our neighbor
down the street in the nicer housethan ours because his daddy's got money
we'll never give your own it's,it's the place to spend money
to spend money to spend money, which is ifthey're going to play the game.
They played the game people were spending.
(17:59):
What? Look, all I'm saying isyou got to spend money to spend money.
Yeah, you got to spend money.
Spend money.
I mean, people got autographs from peoplethat they wanted to get autographs from
and they were willing to spend the money.
I'm not going to do that. Yeah, and you know what?
If you really want to get autographsfrom 30 of your favorite mainstream
actors, megacon is the perfect convention for you.
You might even have to get a mortgageon your Ferrari to do it. But.
(18:19):
But if for some reason you weren'table to get Johnny Young but
you're coming to us state thatbecause we need it, we need to hammer
this home people, we need to keep sayingthat we have Johnny on because.
Anthony Bosco Yeah, we go, yeah.
So we actually have some pretty hot boshand Bosco and Cara Buckland and Buckley.
We've got a lot of BS. And how are younot the BS?
(18:40):
No, sorry. Okay.I got very distracted. I'm sorry.
So what to finish what I was saying,if you,
if you want to actuallybe able to go and do things
and not have to go to stand in a lineat least an hour
before every panel, this is the convention for you.
You know, likeif you love a casual convention experience
(19:02):
where, you know, everybody'sjust there to kind of be good, be
good to each other and like make friendsand feel a sense of community.
And also.
Yeah, and then just
but you can also show upmost of the time to the panels
maybe as they're startingor like just a few minutes before
you know,or maybe maybe at most 30 minutes before.
(19:25):
Just, just maybe not for the burlesqueshow, Right.
Okay. Yeah, I must be clear.
There are lines, for thing. Yes.
Being out the door and down.
I drive. Yes.
Well, still got so well attended hour, you will have.
See, there are lines for things, but it's not to spend money on things.
(19:47):
Except for the dealer's room. Right?
We're not just forcing you to just goto the dealer's room to spend money.
You can come to the shows we do.
Or check outArtist Alley and spend money there
or check out some of the awesome panelsthat we have.
People like you. Yes.You were sitting right.
Now I want you to go to AFO Monetand then see
if you can sign up and do a panelbecause you know that great idea you have.
(20:08):
It's awesome.
Submit your panel who right now do it.
Applications are still open.
Yeah, it's a put it in in another waylike.
Yes, sign up, please.
Please sign up.
Bring your bring in an idea for a panel.
So interesting that I might try to askMorgan hey can I have this time off too?
(20:28):
You know, from our panels to like,go to this one because
and then Miss Morgan will faceslash the counter and I'll say no,
because you didn'tsay my name right, cause I'm bitch
sorry. Yes.
Morganlaughs. That is generally what I do.
And if I do my jobwell, you'll be hearing us.
Go on, Wild's tangents like that,
(20:50):
hopefully for many, many, many episodes.
But.
But also I do a lot of behind the sceneswork and,
you know, work with will
rather help Dianawith getting those resources and
this swag we all lovesthat has our name all over it,
(21:11):
or talking to sponsorswho help us run this show
by giving us money or hey, sometimesthey give us ten cases of Pocky Yeah, yes.
Pocky Which is awesome.
Yes, things like that that they didnot sponsor this podcast yet.
So no treats come down yet.
(21:31):
Sponsored by Pocky.
Maybe allegedly.
If you work for Rico, you know, today.
Yes, holler at us.
But yeah, that'sthat's ultimately my purview.
If you see our name,if you see us on social, that's me.
That's me doing my artistsand working in the marketing minds,
(21:52):
breathing in marketing calland getting the blackboard.
You're you're so you're,you're the the pals
that I send to the minds every dayjust to just to crunch rocks.
But you're in the digital marketing mindsdoing that for me.
Exactly.
And I'm being topical.
The silica long silicon blog.
no, that's me and David.
Explain whatever it is you do.
(22:15):
Okay.
David So, yeah,I, I make the website happen.
I also God,
make main events work sometimes.
Hopefully we'll find out.
I also help with God.
It's so many things I do a lot, mostly behind the scenes,
a little bit in front of the scenes.
(22:37):
If I need to like go hand somebodya microphone, I say, I'm surprised
we have you on the podcastbecause I never thought I'd sucker
I mean, get you I mean get you know, you know, I love the sound of my voice.
I know, I know.
You're almost as bad as I am. Correct.
You see the two egos fighting.
Look, I was told by multiple peoplethat I was not allowed
to start a podcast, which is funnybecause I never wanted to start a podcast.
(22:58):
And yet here we are.
We already talked about the reasons for usstarting the podcast
that's in the first episode.
I blame that.
yeah, sorry.
My, my short term memory is non-existent.
That's how I record these things.
These are being recorded.
no, no, no. yes.
Am I going to get canceled? What do they say?
It's 20, 24. You're going to get canceled?
(23:19):
Yeah, probably.Yeah. I mean, Diana has a smart idea.
It's not saying anything us entireafter she talked.
I will only say the most controversial, divisive things.
The matrix is an issue.
Okay, We are not getting into the Izakayaconversation on this episode.
There would also be a reversebecause he's going into the real world
(23:40):
and the Matrix was the fake world,I think.
Wait a second.
So can I help us get back on board?
No, but if we must, This podcast
has got this guide to asking it.
There comes the truck here.
David.
No, I'm pulling David outfrom in front of the truck.
No, What's up?
Okay, so what?
(24:01):
I'm going to think of some questions.
So you said that you run the site,You run the website?
Indeed, yes. Okay.
What kind of thingsgo into running the website?
Things. I like a lot of praying
and a lot of very technical
(24:22):
computer things like remembering to pay
the bill and
fighting with WordPress plug in.
I only I only say thatbecause we accidentally didn't
have auto bill on for like three monthsand almost had the website
turn off twice.
that's fair.
Rectified that good. Yeah.
(24:44):
You know, they send a lot of emailsbefore they turn your stuff off.
It's fine, right?
I like the electric like.
Yeah, yeah exactly. Yeah.
Which I'msure you don't hear for like six months.
Then they send someone over toto cut the wires or whatever.
I don't know howthey use the website or like,
Hey, excuse me,we're going to turn you off now.
Okay, So you mentioned technical stuff,
(25:08):
but what's what would you sayis the real technical stuff
or the real technical like equipment
or software that you have to use?
I mean, it's just we it's a WordPresssite.
It's nothing fancy.
We got like 30 plug ins that don't work
well together, but they workokay enough to make the site load.
(25:28):
I actually knowI actually did put a lot of effort over.
He has a lot of effortand that's why I love that
I didn't get suckered into doing itbecause I've looked at the site
multiple times and just said no.
Well, I spent I spent a lot of timeduring the winter break,
just like optimizing our plug insand trying to reduce our load time.
So now is like a whole second faster on aon a phone to load our site.
(25:53):
That's actually really good.
So it is awesome that you've helpedto optimize that for everyone
who goes to visit our Web site, AFO Mo.
I tried to say, AFO dot, my guys, guys.
I have tried that domain nameto try to visit it and it kind of didn't
work out.
So me, I don't know how Mo works, but
(26:14):
I just checked it.
It is Alpha Foxtrot, Oskar Dot, Mike,Oscar, Echo.
That's all you need? AFO Dot emoji.
Okay. I might not have tried that.
Thank you.
There it is. Not perfect.
I'm looking at it. Right.
We can see. Yeah, I just typed it in.
It took us to anime festivalOrlando dot com,
(26:35):
which if you remember our last time, make sure you get a domain name.
It's a little shortersometimes when you make make conventions.
Yeah.
We think we should have called itAnna Fest or no festival.
Much shorter domain nameand it sounds like a villain
from a really bad nineties cartoon.
I mean unfortunatelyunlike other smarter convention ladies
(26:57):
that we're able to to shift,we kind of got stuck with the fact
that we're an anime convention.
They were a festival in Orlandoand it is in Orlando.
Yeah.
So so it's like we know so it's veryit's like tremendously accurate.
It's so accurate and I we arewe are type it in to save it as a bookmark
and it's good.
You know it is good for us.
(27:19):
It is. It is indeed.
And this is why we have never everybodyin the audience.
SEO means search engine optimization.
It means when you Google, we pop up. Good.
That's awesome.
That's how it means.
Yeah.
So it's what's reading Googlebecause of AI bots. Yeah.
Add all of these to our running glossarythe second they make a dot festival
(27:39):
top level domain.
I am going to register Anima Dot Festival.
And then when we branched out to othercities, Orlando Dot Anime Festival.
Other than Tampa Anime Festival. Yes.
Sarasota. No.
Not Sarasota. No.
Sarasota.
Kissimmee.
But the Sarasota Comic-Conhas a real bad ring to it.
(28:04):
Service back
already in Kissimmee.
We've been in Miami. Yes, we have.
I think is the third yearwe actually weren't Orlando like proper.
For those that don't know, Orlandoalso is a very weird city
to be actually in the city.
Yes, lots of cities are likenot like that.
Yeah. Yeah.
(28:24):
Well, lots lots of cities are justunincorporated area near the city
that just gets swallowed upin like the greater cities Fullerton area.
Yeah, Yeah.
So it's like, yeah, it's much likeif you live, I guess everybody kind of
has a reference point for New Yorkbecause it's just so famous
and so many so much mediareferences that.
(28:44):
But you know, so yeah, like, much like New York has, you know,
like neighborhoods within it,like the Bronx and the Staten Island.
Burrows, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan,
Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island,Queens, the Bronx.
Yeah. Fun fact about the Bronx.
It's the only borough that's actuallyon, like, mainland America.
(29:09):
Yeah, Everything else is on an island.Yeah.
and. Okay, I was wrong.
It was the.
It was the fourth AFO.
They were in Orlando officially.
The other two were Kissimmee and Altamont.
Yeah, but that's just like South Orlandoand south.
They're Orlando.
North. Orlando North.
I forget where Altamont is.
We kind of. Okay, so, yeah, so.
(29:30):
But unlike New York, we're not
we're pretty cool, but most big.
But really we are not pretty cool. We're running.
We are running at a festivalrelated podcast.
I think she means Orlando. But even still,
Okay.
I'm I'm
okay.
We're all we're only pretty cool forthe obvious like things that people come
(29:54):
to Orlando to visit which actuallyis doing best salts on the highway.
Right.
No, no, no.
You know, sorry.
That's Miami.
The mouse. The mouse in the house.
We know that people come to Orlandoto visit the tourist attractions,
you know, the large ones with rides and,
(30:14):
you know, magical places to be and stuff.
Okay.
Yes. But, you know, so Orlando is.
But nobody cares about that.
But only people that live hereknow that Orlando
is kind of split up into some boroughs, sort of.
But like and they have names, but who really cares?
(30:34):
And then we have adjacent cities
acrossprobably like five different counties.
But then who really knows about those?
So then, so then anybody that's from anywhere
in that greatermetropolitan area, they just say,
Yes, I'm from Orlando.
Look, all I'm sayingis the main reason to visit Orlando
(30:56):
is to hear Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer greetyou all before him at MCO.
Yeah, yeah.
The the airport. Yeah.
Yep, yep.
If you fly in, you get to play. Yeah.
I hate to go on another tangent, but hear me out.
So there's that current trend on TikTokwhere like
of course I'm yadda yaddaI something or another
(31:20):
that general cadence, the only the only versions of those
that are not the worst are when they like, subvert your expectations
by doing a different jokeor they get weirdly metatextual.
But the point is I saw todaythe MCO one and I
just was calling in my normaljust within myself.
(31:40):
It was it was maximum cringe, just the literal definition of cringe.
So it's worse than one of thethe anime y few cars that drive around.
I will defend the policieswe do have though.
Of course I drive an anime wife who car.
I never mind.
I mean, I'm not going to sayI don't have a duct camera, but
you know, I mean, I don't have the moneyto spend on one of those raps.
(32:03):
I'm sorry, what's wrong with anime? Why? Who cares?
Yeah, let's not be let's not be
alienating our.
Yeah, yeah.
I say I'm so excitedwhen I when I'm on the road
and I just randomly see like a Pikachu caror whatever, whatever
really scene or Sailor Moon carand I'm just like, that's my people.
(32:26):
There's a dude who brings like a cellshaded
Lamborghini to DragonConand it's the best thing ever. Wow.
yeah, I've seen that one.
I didn't even knowyou could do that to a car.
And here we are. Or even the. Yeah.
Matt chromaticand he kind of edge out the lines.
It comes out really well.
Yeah. Or even the people.
that's right.You're a car guy, aren't you?
Yes, he is. The, he is the cars in sports.
(32:48):
Yeah. We're the most like. Yes.
Yes you can mean that the closestwe come to approaching normal.
That's why they put me in marketing.
I'm the only one who can talk to people.
What is this weed level? It's under 9000.
How did this happen? How is the on this podcast?
And yet I'm the one on the staffwho watches the most anime.
(33:09):
How does that work?
hey, I watched animeas recently as earlier this.
I watch seasonal anime Great year.
I don't know if I can back it up. Okay.
As much as I'd love to get in an argumentabout like who actually does watch
more anime, it's not me.
Pretty much you, me and Ryan.
Yeah, like I think. I think yeah.
Because I'm still up to date with I'mstill relatively up to date with, like,
(33:32):
my hero and teammates in the harborDemon Slayer.
Yeah.
And those are like, really popular rightnow, so.
But that Jujutsu Kaisen I know.
Digital KaisenI can't. I've never actually seen it.
It's just like for guys in Japan.
Look, if it doesn't have gaymagical girls, then that's, that's.
Yeah, that's,that's not my, my show people.
Sorry.
Yes, that is a showwe don't talk about. Morgan.
(33:53):
Listen.
Well, but we both really watchwhat the gay magical girls do.
You know what I'm talking about?
Do you know how littlethat narrows it down?
There are multipleshows involving gay magical girls.
That's likethe one from the one from this season.
I need to watch that.
Still, we are not watching that, but I am totally watching it.
I don't know what we're talking about.You don't want to.
You don't want to know.
(34:14):
Okay, So there's more current than I ambecause you're talking current season.
I justI just watch Triton over and over again.
The good one or that we've triedlike if you're not hearing Johnny
Young screaming and then a cat going,Yeah, are you really watching?
Or Cowboy Bebop starring
our guests for 2020, rightas Vash, the Stampede.
(34:35):
And if you want to meet Vash,The stampede. Yes.
After 2024.
Tom Dafoe.
Hey, guys.
I think the point of this one was to talkabout what
each of us does for the convention.
I love how you're trying to get us ontrack. And I am.
And I'm like,
I've I've been a little timid today, but I just looked at the list and I did.
(34:55):
And who's talked and who hasn't.
And I'm a little afraidit might be me. Next.
It is you next, dear.
Okay,So what do you do for the con, Misha?
Yeah. Okay.
So I work with MorganLa Fe at Game Show Theater.
That's what I've donethe last two affairs
that I've worked now, Nonconsecutive, but like the last two
(35:18):
that I've worked this year, she leveled up as two staff.
Fancy. So.
Right. And I guess yeah.
And so I co-host game show theater. Yes.
Morgan Le.
Yeah, yeah.
He's my boss I kind of have to doI mean you're you you are.
You keep me on trackto be all that is you want.
(35:40):
You're in the podcast, you have the power.
If you just assert
something is your job and no one correctsyou fast enough, it's canon.
Yes. Okay. And right now. All right, we're
building the castle cannon.
So that's how.
That'show Bryan got promoted to Coco Director.
Yeah. Okay. Okay.
That's all.
I mean, basically,I became staff by winning the game show.
(36:02):
Yeah.
And then I became staff by helping carrythe game show.
Like last year when I ended up, like, kind of mildly dead on a Sunday, right?
Yeah.
And, well, which is great because, like, you guys kind of I kind of wound up
a little bit deadand out of sorts that Saturday night.
So I was grateful to everybody that, you know, helped cover for me.
(36:25):
But then when Morgan was downfor the Count on Sunday,
all of us were just like, I don't know,we're already comfortable being up here.
I was like,I am comfortable with going ahead
and just doing what I normally doand, you know, reading questions or
cute, witty banter and just kind of,you know,
(36:47):
going back and forth with the audienceand while also making sure other people
are keeping everythingpretty on track and organized
for the sake of, you know,a really good game show experience.
Because, you know, I,I kind of have that background informally
(37:08):
where really formally I am
still a member of a certain Daytona based
improv comedy troupe.
It's just I Yeah, but I'm not.
But I was.
But do you ever really leavethe improv comedy troupe?
But anyway once you're onceyou're improv, they have you forever.
(37:29):
You can kind of go out anytime you like.
Yeah.
So yes, so I kind of ended up
kind of taking the leadhost position of the show just on those
those couple panels that Morgan
Le Fay couldn't,you know, couldn't be there for.
(37:49):
And I can't always remember everything.
I do added in basically for mean improv show,
but I felt like it just worked.
And with everybody that was already thereand doing their jobs with us,
we have a team. Yeah, you have a team.
I just felt like
it was easy to keep hostingand I had a really good time
(38:14):
and other people seemto have a really good time
and I guessmaybe that's why I'm staff now.
Morgan Why am I staff now?
Because you want a game show. No, wait.
That's me. You are.
So this is the secret reason of whyyou're staff.
Because you ran the show last year whenI was when I was basically dead on Sunday.
(38:34):
And because you put a lot of time inand I think you're a good add to the team.
So, you know, and trying to come upwith your utility cup
with your counterpart, though, that's the thing I'm going to harass you
for soon as this call is overor podcast is over, we need your character
because the Countess cannotjust be the only face character.
You're right. And I have. I had a name.
(38:56):
We have a name.
It's in some notes that are in my phone,
but probably in a series of text messagesthat I can't dig through right now.
However,we have come up with a game, so I guess.
Yeah.
yeah, we we workshopped like on the phonewhile I was driving back from
Daytona one night
(39:16):
when the same nightthat Morgan was like, Hey,
I know you already do a lot for game show, but I want to start a podcast.
And I was just like,God, I'm just trying to drive home
in the middle of the night and,and so really more Morgan La
Fe calling me onthat drive was both comforting
(39:38):
because like,I don't like driving at night.
And then also, like, we just workshoppeda whole other game show right there.
We did it live as I'm want to do,
and I really wish I had a we're doing itlive button.
I we need it.
But that'swhat game show theater really is because I
if you want to finish me, sure you can.
(39:58):
But I'm goingtake my turn I guess next some.
I haven't actually said anything reallybesides heard the last one the last.
And I'm the host anyway.
So I say what goes with that. Yeah. So.
Okay, so I'll finish up.
I guess.
So at this pointI am the co-host of Game Show Theater.
I do have a characterand I even have a a costume piece
(40:22):
right now in the trunk ofmy car that I bought today.
even I didn't know that.
Yeah, this is. I'm doing it live again.
You're learning about itright here, right now.
And I have a general outlook on, like, what my costumes should be
so that if I'm ever, like, a chubby, like,I'll have a character.
I have a character. Okay?
And then now, because of that phonecall on my drive
(40:46):
home, I am part of this podcast.
Hello? Hello.
Honestly, that's better than my izakayainto the podcast story.
okay. Thanks. I'm a storyteller too.
You guys.
Yeah. So?
So the reason. So.
Hi, I'm Morgan, the Fey, a.k.a.
the Countess a.k.a the person
who's probably been more effortsthan legally should be.
(41:08):
What I do on staff is
my actual title is event manager Slash.
I run game show theater games.
The theater is a wonderful placewhere we run
game shows that are themed around animeand video games.
The point is to be an interactive event, kind of like All-India is
that is just different events we have.
(41:29):
We in the past episodeI said that we have anime name that tune,
which is the longest running show
that we will be coming back withbecause it's kind of a requirement.
We also have had Anime Jeopardy,we have Ion Gamer, we have different
shows depending on thingsand some are kind of evergreen.
Some of them come and go, some of themwe cannot run again
(41:51):
because we had serious issueswith people hurting themselves.
We're sorry. Yeah.
yeah. Sorry about that. Yes. Unnecessary.
Many games is no longera part of our show, but you know,
it will be mourned and it will be missed.
And many fond memories will be remembered.
Yes. F's in the chat. Yep. FS in the chat.
But the other things that I do is
(42:14):
I portray a character during the event, the Countess who is basically queen bitch
of the convention, and I also help out with other things
before the event like David does
of I made the Comm Guide last year.
I helped with Marie Kondo ing things
(42:34):
when we need to have things sorted out.
She is very good at that.
I'm usually the onethe one of the go to people.
I guess the directors seem to thinkI'm useful for different things, that
my job title is kind oflike she runs games for theater
and everything elsethat we need her to do.
And if you ever look at like jobdescriptions like and other needs as
(42:57):
requested, that other needs is requested, boxes checked really hard on mine.
Your title is just manager of game, show, theater, comma, etc.
etc.. Yes.
And so the reason I asked Misha to be onstaff is, one, she is a good
at keeping me on track because I need thatand mix and your welcome.
Her background of improv is very importantbecause the thing with game shows
(43:21):
and I was so happy to hear thiswhen I was doing the It Babe
at Home that someone came up to meand she was like, I'm sorry,
but I'm stealing something.
You did for animating that too.
And I'm like, What?
we made signs.
So just hold up number cardsinstead of hand race.
And I'm like, That's awesome.
She is like, You're nuts.
I'm like, No,I want people to do better game shows
(43:43):
because trust me,people think they can it, but they can't.
If you have to run a showthat is interactive
to a crowd of people and be fun.
Yes. well, it's just Jeopardy
if you watch it on TV one, they cut out all the dead space.
Two, they already work the camera.
They already have that.
(44:03):
Three, it's interesting to watch, not to be seen alive.
It's a very different dynamicwhere I'm not going to want to see
someone stand up on stage and failat answering questions.
People will really underestimatehow id more, how much more
difficult live and improv
especially combined are comparedto like any other form of storytelling.
(44:27):
Yeah, for sure.
Like it can reallyit can go very poorly, very quickly,
and then everybody kind of hasto just work together to pick it back up.
But like, yeah, the key is like
kind of like a synergy betweenthe people that are up there.
So they, you know, they can already be friends,
but they have definitely have tolike spend time together.
(44:48):
And then another key is just honestlyis not trying to be the funniest guy
in the room, just listening
to your costars and genuinely reacting.
And I think that's what she and Iwhat Morgan Le Fey and I can do
is like genuinely lis genuinely listen
(45:08):
and build off of each other.
And yeah, right.
Morgan laughing now, No, I'mjust here to have you for my ego purposes.
man, I knew it.
Yes, you are.
You are, in fact, Star-Lord.Dad? Yes, I am.
Which is weird, because.
Who's the dad? I'm confused.
Yeah, I was going to say,if I can't be the father, there's no way.
(45:32):
No. Well, I.
Because as I think it's a cosmic being,ego transcended
gender norms, anything really.
Yeah.
Well, but I'm also going to say is like people
always say this is again, this is me being a little preachy.
We've had other peoplewho have tried to run
game shows at AFOand they did not do well.
(45:55):
And I'm not saying I'm not saying that.
Ah, what I'm saying islike we had people that did it.
We had Aaron and Kurt watch themand they just did not do a good job
because it's very hard toand I'll tell this to anyone
who wants to run a game show, like I want to see people run
game shows at conventionsbecause they're great, they're fun,
(46:16):
but they are just hard to put on becauseyou have to be expecting the unexpected.
Yes, So many people think they can justput up questions and say, you know,
Pokemon Jeopardy, okay, what happensif no one knows what the answer is?
How do you get more than three
people on stagethat are interesting to keep on stage?
(46:37):
So the first trick I always say is don'thave an actual group of people on stage.
Have everyone involved.
Get the entire audienceinvolved with Yeah.
Hands. My hands.
Why We made the signsand that made things flow and but boy
behind the scenesdid making all of these signs
that I'm staring at in this box like 100
(46:57):
plus right Hundred yet Boy,
it was a whole day of assembly and cuttingand laminating and more assembly.
I mean, our teamprobably is one of the teams
that spends the most time in preprep before the convention
because we alreadyare working on questions.
We already have our schedules figured out.
(47:18):
We do a lot of stuffand I try to put on a good show
and yeah, we are, that's what we do.
And yeah, our emphasis is just dideverybody have fun
and there's a little bit of somethingfor everyone.
I mean that's the goal is becauseif someone doesn't like the show,
I want them to well, one,I want to do a show for everybody
(47:41):
like I want to have we have showslike one of the shows we always run
is something called Iron Gamer, which is a spoof of Iron Chef,
which for kidsthat have never seen Iron Chef,
it was a cooking contestwhere they had the greatest chefs in Japan
get competeto see who could beat the Iron Chef.
And there was alwaysa random ingredient involved.
And so that's how we started, wasthere was a random game
(48:04):
you had to play and win,and we always ran that against cosplay.
Ah, happy, happy go go cosplay contestbecause I know gamers
are not going to want to dealwith the cosplay contest half the time,
so I wanted there to be something for themduring that time period.
And so that's how that started with that.
But the secret ingredientis that I'm again a bitch, but also half
(48:28):
the fun is last year, for example,
we the secret game was actually chess.
Yeah. yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, you know, because we'd donethe kind of obvious things
for Iron Gamer like Smash Brothersand, well, but like one year we did like,
I think the one year, the first yearthat I was with Game Show, we did polio.
(48:52):
Polio, Tetris.
Yes, we did polio Tetris because that wasthat was the fallback year
because the system brokethe originally trying to do things on.
I see. Okay.
The other thing is always have a backupplan.
Yeah.
And then and then a yearthat I was just an attendee one the year
I was an attendeeone day and saw you again and we just
(49:13):
like clicked again as friends
instantaneously and then likegot back into contact with each other.
But that that yearIron Gamer was actually no, that was,
that was something totally differentbecause that was versus it's
so that was versus the Countess. Yeah.
Yeah that was Yeah.
(49:33):
So that felt like, but it felt like that Iron Gamer vibes.
It kind of did.
But because it was a fighting game,it was a fighting game.
But no other things. We do this,we also have a twist.
So one of the best things we did waswe did Smash Brothers, but I called
it was the most anti tournamentsmash contest.
It was eight players, all random, all items, random stage.
(49:57):
that's pretty iron.
That's pretty gamer.
Yeah. So just yeah, Madness and chaos.
It was and we actually admitted itwhere if you're cause playing a character,
you could select that characterand only that character and only that.
so there were a couple of peoplethat were actually cause
playing characters in the gameand they were, yeah.
(50:17):
Okay. Now I do remember that.
Yeah.
Another yearI had Iron Gamer where it was
we played,it was the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.
But the secret ingredient was the factthat you did not choose the controller.
We had every kind of controllerfrom a stadia controller
to a PlayStationfive controller to a class
(50:39):
like Logitech controllerwith a really bad connector port.
there was randomly given to each party.
Each personcontestant was probably pretty.
Yeah. Okay.
Yeah, that's that.
That does up the stakesfor gaming for sure.
And then and then this year, this past year we were, you know, 2023,
(51:02):
we were surprised that like, yeah, chessworked.
Amazed.
I was like with the entire 90 minuteshow was like one game of chess.
Yeah, I was expecting it to eitherlike I was not expecting
people to be as cutthroatin a game of chess as they were.
Yeah, but it but, but the waythat we figured out how to rotate players,
(51:23):
getting on to the controller, like setting up kind of teams,
but were really teams setting upjust yokogawa setting up like
two teams of people that at one point, you know, we had that we let it,
we let them collaborate and and like tellwhoever, you know, pass the controller
around through the teamand tell each other, you know, how
(51:47):
openly like
what what to do on their next move, Right.
Yeah. First for like 15 minutes.
Then we started being a little harderand we started adding timers like
because again,I did not expect it to be as smooth as
expect it to be like more chaoticand the games to be faster.
But people were playing chess likethey actually knew how to play the game.
(52:09):
Yeah, and even for the people that didn't,
everyone in on their teamwas really nice about explain inning
what to do, what piece to movewhere it just flowed
then the show that is my personalis evil jeopardy which is where
the countess is born and raisedand that show is literally improv.
(52:32):
Yeah there are in-jokes upon in-jokesupon in-jokes.
yeah.
Like, and and those have been kind ofyour running jokes for the last 13 years.
Yeah.
Like from basically, like, the first one ever.
There are running jokesabout different things.
Like, the answer is Kafka.
The answer is always Kafka.
(52:53):
And there is always a questionwhere the person gets
it's a double jeopardy,but it's a you're in jeopardy.
And if they even get that question, they lose the game.
not the game, no.
They get kicked off the stage.
I'm so sorry everyone, but I have lost the game.
I also just lost the game.
That's such an honorwhen you know, you know,
(53:14):
anyone who knows aboutthe game is now losing age.
Yeah. Yes.
If you if you know what the game is, I'm.
How's your back?
How's your back?
But I think you're pretty good.
Honestly. Are you.
Are you hydrating? Are you hydrating?
Has AARP reached out to you?
Yeah.
Know, so funny that you don't actuallyneed to be, like, 60 to join AARP.
(53:38):
Yeah, they just want money.
You could just join. You can join.
You don't get all the benefitsas being, like,
under 55 or whatever, but you still get a lot of benefits.
yeah.
Apparently you only have to be 18.
Yeah.
Well, that is news to me, actually, but it's.
Yeah, no, it's actually like, it'skind of a big brain move
if you if you can use the benefitsbecause it's not that expensive.
(53:59):
It's like when you it'slike when you get the Costco membership
to go there for lunchevery day for the free samples.
You don't look 55. Look, young man,
or they're busy.
Well, I got their business card, soI get cash back, and I'm not a business.
You, you. You are.
You are.
Brian, Insert last name here.
Sole proprietorship. Yeah, Yeah. LLC.
(54:20):
I'm not.
I'm not a businessman.
I'm just a businessman.
Not a I'm not married.
That joke is for like, six of youout there and they all appreciate it.
They all Yep, yep.
All, all 12 of our listeners, half of themreally appreciate that there are dozens
of dozens of them, probably not tens,
tens of tens of tens and tens of tens.
(54:42):
I did.
I just really hope that someone makes itthis far into episode two of our podcast
and is still and is still interested
enough to keep listening.
Yeah, we've now all saidkind of like what our deals are, I guess,
because yeah, I'mjust yeah, queen, queen, bitch of AFO
and I run shows for some reasonand I still do it.
(55:04):
And literally this year.
Okay, Ryan, who is my director.
Sorry, Diana, you're an amazing person as well.
Just not as just not my director.
Right?
Not my directorhashtag not my director. So
is this
like a not my president kind of situation?
You know, I don't know.
I mean, I like that. I just I may if.
(55:25):
great. Again, it
starts now.
We really just have like three presthree presidents that represent
checks and balances we do haveand also three three who uses checks.
It's 20, 24, everything's on card.You know,
you'd be amazed.
There's
(55:46):
no checks, only balances.
Contactless pay and balances.
A-plus Here we go.
And f silly and balances, you know, and we're all out of balance.
I really hopewe're not all out of balance.
There's bills like, Yeah, sorry.
I thought he actually and I can'the actually told me this year to wear
solvent it'sokay this year here we are alcohol to
(56:08):
no no if you're not part of the solventyou're part of the precipitate.
There you go. Thank you.
Add that to the glossary.
But so this year Ryan, our fearless director
that I'm under, unlike thethe other fearless director Diana,
who Brian is under and Dave, who are you wonder I'm under Becky.
You're Becky.
(56:28):
Okay, so.
So there's all three of our checks we got.
These are people you willall the directors are covered eventually.
We'll try to get the other two on here.
Eventually the.We will all meet them someday.
Yeah.
The best director that I know right now, because they're on this podcast.
Ha ha.
Yeah. Nice.
That is the first wordDiana has said in, like 20 minutes.
(56:50):
I know.
Yeah.
And I, we've were only listeningvery politely correct me
and then we're going to say that gogive a great background on what they do.
Yeah. Better than anything we did.
I feel embarrassed that all I did wassay I do a lot and then moved on
and then got prodded for questionsbecause I didn't contribute enough.
(57:10):
I feel bad.
Yeah, I got entirely too in the weeds andI'm not really sure that I said anything.
Also, like half ofour thing is to explain what we do
to other people to play games, not just make it sound funny.
And as I say now, this yearI've actually been told to cut back on
what I'm doing, right? So that's it.
Like, why do you still like that?
(57:30):
Last year I ran like ten events.
Last weekendI built the third version of my broadcast
rack so that I could bring it to AFOin four months.
Nice rack there.
Yeah, well, the goal was to get it under £100
so I could actually bring iton an airplane.
that's what you say.
It's five bucks.
Yeah, five bucks.
(57:50):
When is. If it's the end of June. Right.
yes. Sorry.
Got two more and a half.
I know what you guys.
I was promoting it today, June 28th
to June 30th, 2024.
Yes. At time of recording.
But the recordingwe have 139 days at time.
(58:11):
Where you on are youdid you go to affordable.
Okay just a just to checkyeah just to be a bit yes earlier today.
Yes like hours ago
mere hours ago at the time of recording
as David was going to say,I bet the cool kids coming on Thursday
because we're going to have eventsthen, too. We have, right?
I bet I was going to say stuff to do.
(58:31):
I've been asked to run eventsfor Thursday too, so.
And if you and if youand if you buy a gold pass right now,
it'll be the normal MRP,but you'll get one before we sell out.
And that means on Thursdayyou can pick up your pass
just like anybody else who pre-registerand you'll get stuff like that.
It'll be named later.
This is why I do the websiteand not the sales insert swag here
(58:52):
like AFO, the flamethrower.
We will announce swag. Don't worry.
You'll also get early entryinto many things,
such as our Margolis events and the lines
to get autographs from our special guests, the dealers room as well.
And if you remember earlier,
I mentioned that there's a linefor the burlesque show.
If you got that gold pass, you don't got to worry about it.
(59:14):
Ain't no line for you, baby.
Got your special VIP area trail.
Go straight to the other shorter VIP lineand then you get the best
rows of seating so that you can seethe very tasteful artists on stage.
Yeah.
And the lines that I mentioned earlierthat maybe
like 5 minutes,maybe 10 minutes, maybe 30,
(59:34):
they would be shorter for youbecause you get the VIP lines.
Yeah.
And you get a whole hour extra in the BobSorry.
Dealer room.
It's to the dealer room.that's news to me.
Yep. Yep.We don't talk about the ball pit.
Don't talk about the ball pit.
I, I was.
I was seriously tempted to bring a ballpit one year, and Eric had to talk me
(59:55):
down.
I will gladly veto the ball pitif that comes up again.
It has been vetoed multiple times.Do not worry, Diana.
The pit is.
Yes, one year for one of theso for one of the evil jeopardy.
One of the the things I've done is peoplewin random things
just because and one of the randomthings was the next hour in the ball pit
but still waiting was wearing it.
(01:00:17):
But was there a ball pit? No, no, no.
But they got an extra hour in itand someone actually then wagered that
in their final jeopardyround the extra hour in the ball pit,
that is what happens.
We have running jokes like thatof where people will wager things
and like
I don't know why you will.
Jeopardy is so, so much fun for people.
(01:00:38):
I love running because I get to be a bitchto people on stage.
And if I say like I am basically on stagefor 90 minutes Domina room,
I do not see why it's funfor other people, but people show up to it
and literally just, I mean, what
with that description,I think I can know why.
I mean, talk to your local dommeif BDSM is correct for you.
(01:01:01):
Well.
well,
we already had to talk about Domino'sand Subway 13.
Domino's and Subway. What do you like better?
So why is this coming up again?
Why are we talking about?
Because I'm explaining what the count is.
But again, this is the count.
This is basically the local is theis the local Domino's like,
(01:01:21):
okay, let's let's talk about localDomino's Pizza.
It's like, yes, I'm on
Diana's team right nowand keeping us on track.
So speaking of,I think this is relevant to say that I do
know my character namenow I'm doing that live
and like I am my character or me,
(01:01:45):
you know, co-hosting with Maureen Lafave,Slash the Countess,
we're kind of oppositein the sense of like, you know, the anime
and Japanese folklore like archetypes
of the red only and the blue only.
Can we add those to the glossary?
Should I define those?
(01:02:05):
Let's add those to glossary.
Define only what it was.
Okay.
Yeah.
So, so she you know, soshe wears her costume
and in her outfits as Morganthe face slash the countess.
Are you know black and redand so Lolita style is called while Leda,
which is a Japanese kimono stylewith Lolita elements to it.
(01:02:27):
I thought while Leto was the the anti Lolita who shows up to play
Lolita party and Lolita cart and I'mI don't know where I'm going with this
but that actually is itbecause y is opposite it. Wow.
Yeah yeah.
Lolita Lolita carbut not in Lolita smacks though.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Was that are lovers not fighters.
(01:02:49):
Yeah. Yep. Okay. Yeah.
Everyone wanted Lolita in lol smash but while Lolita and but still not wildly.
Yeah well they wouldn't let Walla Walla Walla Walla
Walla Walla Walla Walla lovernot a fighter.
Yeah. Okay.
So we are whilewhile Countess is the red Oni
(01:03:10):
fiery temperhot, prone to anger, violence.
The fun stuff.
Yeah, the the passionate one.
Right.
I'm kind of like the oppositewhere I'm kind of maybe, like, a little.
I'm the blue onlyso the blue note Blue only as
defined is kind of kind of cool.
(01:03:31):
Keeps their head about them even in silly
or spontaneous or improvised situations.
Right.
And and so my motifis going to be something symbol,
something in the realm that's similarto her fashion but different.
So maybe like steampunkor something like that.
(01:03:54):
I have in it, I have a vision in my head.
Please bring steampunk to this con.
Okay. All right. Got you. Got it.
And maybe it's because I've been watchingWarehouse 13, but I'm really into steam.
Sure. Yeah, that's great.
So I think. Yeah, and I think that esthetic is so.
So you're.
You're just a goththat found brass, right?
Yeah, it's.
Yeah, it's like kind of looking back.
(01:04:14):
Well, if you go to Universal Studios
and you go to the house of the not mousethe house.
No, not mouse. And you go to the restaurant.
yeah.
Yes.
That restaurant that is there.
it's like, yeah, it's like looking.
It's like steampunkis kind of like looking back on, I think,
(01:04:38):
Victorian fashion and taking elements
of, of that, you know, and making it.
But like making ita little bit more modern
and comfortable and also whimsicaland Yeah, and whimsical.
So, you know,I think that's and it represents that,
you know, it's a style that representssomeone who is like
(01:04:59):
whimsical and sciencey
and really into the late 1800s.
Yeah.
And really into the Exactly soso that would be yeah that's pretty solid
my vision for like my style
but I be going more black blue or like
(01:05:19):
but mainly blue to be like the,
the foil, you know, the visual foil too.
So Morgan, Lafe, the Countess
and I have a name.
I'm going to propose it to you guysbecause you're very reasonable.
And also and also, I think this is fittingfor an anime convention.
(01:05:41):
Are you guys ready for this?
Yes, I'm prepared.
First name, Anna.
Last name.
Mae. God, You can't.
You can't actually do that. No, because.
Because that's what
That's what Julian wants to namehis daughter if he ever has one.
Julian specifically was like,
I'm going to name my daughterAnastasia Mae so I can call her anime.
(01:06:02):
that's gorgeous. Well, we could.
You could go with Anastasia.
That actually is a good name.
I actually know what you should do it,because maybe it'll either
dissuade Julianor convince him either way.
But I know that I like I really likeJulian and like we have a good
even though.
no, he could just adopt youand it'll work out.
No, no, no.We're. We're going to try this.
(01:06:22):
Anastasia, May three on or something.
Just May as the first and flying aloneand so Yeah.
So it's Anastasia. Megatron. Megatron.
Megatron.
me. Yeah.
Yeah.
Because I was looking at like Diana
and then me I as the spellingso that and I'm at a stage.
Mavis
(01:06:44):
Okay.
Anastasia
But it has to be like, what's the worst M name we can roll with?
Morgan Yeah.
Martha Why did you say MarthaHow about that?
Why did you say my marlin wasn't donethat?
I'm Anastasia Marlinand anybody here that I like?
Marlin. I like Anastasia. Marlin.
I actually like it. Am I born?
(01:07:05):
It is a subtle joke. Is she born?
Is she born? Are you a real girl?
Maybe it's Maybelline.
Maybe it's Maybelline.
Anastasia. Maybelline.
No, no, no.
I on.
I wish that I,
the Countess, had a better name than the Countess.
I just have a tendency to read thingslike in Ramadi.
(01:07:25):
Yeah, I have.
You know, I have, as we discussed before, that we've
we've all studiedJapanese to a certain degree.
And boy do I understandJapanese photo tactics
and and like how to sell the images there.
Yeah.
That's, that's enough to say it,that's the correct way.
Okay. Hold on.
(01:07:46):
If can I read it.
It's so hard for me to read. Okay. On.
On. Not on, no, on no, no, no.
You're right.
It's on a on set.
Now, remember, you have to be on the $100.
You're on tier to see our chat.
Yeah.
And unfortunately, nothing we have heredoesn't have the picture
(01:08:07):
I posted in the groupChat on Discord, correct?
Which is. Yeah.
What happenedwould cost discovered Brown solid.
Okay,But I feel pretty good about that. Okay.
I'm gonna write that in my notes. Now to Anna state.
Anastasia may Lynn.
Anastasia Mallon.
I love it.
(01:08:27):
Let's enjoy it. Life.
I like it better than mine.
I know.
It's the only
the only the only one downside hereis like the the short form of anesthesia.
Like if you're Russian is Anya, and Onyeama is just so close.
but Anya though from that is cute, thoughon your may I like it?
Okay. Yeah, that's a reference to that. To that.
Totally not a Disney princess.
(01:08:49):
Yeah. Yes. Yeah.
We can say the name of the show Anastasia.
That's an anime. What?
well, I was like mass media.
that's right.
Any anything. We bring upthat isn't anime.
So Anastasia is an anime.
Anastasia is an anime now.
It's kind of an izakaya.
She gets she got sucked out of being poor.
(01:09:11):
You do not know what it is like.
We need to have this discussionabout what is and is not an ISA.
Every every thing I see is an izakaya.
I would recommend it. Everything I see.
Okay.
That's a whole nother episode.
That will be it. Episode.
I don't know how much this is explainingto David how Izakaya works.
Yeah, I don't know how much that isdealing with convention running,
(01:09:32):
but actually we've discoveredthat people did not get the we ran.
One of the things was explained badly,
one of the shows and part ofit was anime games.
And it's like I explained badly and no onegot the SRK, so we're dropping it.
It was just not worth it.
Yeah, because. Well, that'sbecause you didn't hit them on the truck.
Then they would have gotten it.
We didn't have the time to make truckcoon.
It justit needs to be completely esoteric.
(01:09:54):
It requires getting hit or murderedby a giant object or Aranda with a knife.
I don't know that.
You don't know that.That's a requirement for a guy.
So technically, okay, if we want to getinto the technical tai chi, you know,
because like, Inuyasha is in, it's a guybecause he didn't jump between worlds.
It is.
She died in the.
Well, okay, okay, okay.
We're I'm, I'm doing this right now.
(01:10:15):
And Izakaya is anything that involvesa character moving between dimensions
that the original term is from Japanese, where a character
rides on the turtle and losestime and ends up somewhere else.
And that is where SRK comes from.
Okay, so the concept is someonewho is an outsider going somewhere else.
(01:10:35):
So that has become something of someoneends up somewhere.
For example, Voyager.
Voyager, Voyager, Yeah.
Because the ship gets flung
from one quadrant of the galaxy to other, from the alpha quadrant to the doctor.
For example, like I was talking to Ryan about,
(01:10:55):
this is which Marvel moviesare technically East the Chi in which
are not so like, Captain America is close, but it isn't just to back up.
Star Trek is nowor Voyager is now an animation. Yes.
And the Marvel movie is now an animeJumanji. Yes.
So is Jumanji.
Actually, Jumanji is the rare escape.
And reverse is a because the dudegot escorted into the jungle,
(01:11:18):
but also the huntergot escaped into the town.
The hunter was a representationof his father.
I know who what I understand theI understand the point they were making.
But the hunter was literally from insidethe game and got a guy into the town.
Yes. Well, I'd say it's my favoriteis Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
And what you found there? That's fair. That is stick out.
(01:11:39):
The Wizard of Oz is
is another great escape is an escapeas she wrote a house, but it still counts.
It doesn't matter what they rode, but also
depending on your interpretation,Peter Pan isn't a psycho, though.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. There we go. That is an easy go. Yeah.
And now they're all enemy.
Yeah, right.
Actually, if you want to seean Alice in Wonderland watch
keychain In Wonderland, which is a clampanimated take on Lewis Carroll's works.
(01:12:02):
and I love.
I already like a lot of clamp enemas,
so I probably would enjoy thatso many children but we
we have yet to mention my favorite animeizakaya which is of course space jam.
Yeah.
Now in animecome on and jam and welcome to Japan.
Yeah. Yeah. There you go.
(01:12:22):
Yeah.
So you two can get Izakaya into AFO.
Yeah.
Try Drums are a good one becausethe first Tron movie is an Izakaya.
The second Tron movie is an izakaya, and then a reverse is Akai Boilers.
Yeah, sorry.
Okay.
I love how you saidwe weren't going to discuss
Akai, and I just said, forget no one.
No one has ever stopped mefrom devolving a conversation.
(01:12:43):
Yeah.
So where even I'm like, Where were we?
Because, like,so I was finishing explaining what I do.
You came up with your character?Yeah. We namecheck things.
I was saying that I wishthat I had never called her the Countess,
because the problem isI don't have a full name.
But when I introduce
the person who was introducing medropped everything except the Countess.
(01:13:03):
Well, what's the rest of your name?
I forgot. It's been 15 years.
Yeah, and I think you talk like you toldme, that your name was the Countess.
And, like, five other words.
Yeah,it was a long name, actually. It was like,
this is like, so fast.
We don't know what the original wordswere.
It's like the word for bear.We know that there was a word.
We just don't know what it was,I think was actually the Latin
(01:13:26):
name for foxglove, for the,the genus for it.
I'd have to look it up.
Digitalis, digitalis, I think it was,or it might have been nightshade.
But the, the Latin to forget
Nightshade is belladonna.
It was belladonna I think.
thank goodness we got a wordsmith here.
Look, man,if it's something that can kill you.
(01:13:47):
So I think it was like original, the Countess Belladonna or something,
but they just dropped itafter just the Countess.
Yeah. And peoplejust start chanting the Countess.
So that's, that's how it that is,that is a much more charitable name. Yes.
The Countess.
Yes. Morgan La fe,like the Countess is quicker than Morgan
laughing or, I don't know, Countess Morganlaughing.
Countess. Countess. Yeah.
(01:14:09):
And you don't have to have that each time. It's just right.
Nothing is better than havingour wonderful fans who come to support us
at game show theater, chanting your nameto make sure they win prizes.
And also they are generally wonderfulbecause improvising that show
wouldn't be amazingunless people showed up for me
to kind of bounce off of and,you know, have a good time with.
(01:14:29):
So and then also, we're most likelybringing back the shot this year.
yeah. The item shop.
Yeah.
So we have an item shopand what's our currency?
Countess. Countess. Credits. Credits.
That's it. Yeah. Like buy. So, you know.
So you're saying that the Countess has tothen count one Countess credit.
See how far two Countess Therewe got there.
(01:14:53):
You got that?
Yeah.
Yeah, but the thing is, unfortunately, this year, I can't kidnap the Queen
to ransom her, so each credit is worth £5.
I have to go for the King Charlesfor as long as we have.
For as long. Yeah, we might. We might.
We might have to to put a pin in that.
And it might end up being Prince or King.
Got William. What's the king's name?
(01:15:16):
I think it's William.
And then the Ginger is just going to bea head of lettuce.
Okay? Of Harry is like Harry's like,
let's just put the head of lettuce on.
Yeah.
The way it works is like it's Williamand then William's three kids
and then Harry. Yeah.
When this King Ralph's comein, when they get a Ralph, I guess, like,
technically they can call themselveswhatever for the children in the audience.
(01:15:37):
It's a very old movie.
But John Candy, did nobody have cable?
I had cable. Okay. It was on all the time.
Sorry I missed what you said was doublechecking the British line of succession.
So sorry about that.
Yeah.
Sometimes we talk about anime conventions.
All I'm saying isif you're going to make a joke,
you want it to be as accurate as possibleunless inaccuracy is what you're going
(01:15:59):
for, right?
I'm also sorry I'm old. That's fair.
I don't think.
Okay, But I don't think you'rethat much older than me.
And but I also, like, didn't have.
I don't think so.
I like I also didn't have cable fora long time and I still don't have cable.
Basically the Internet happened.
Well, nobody has cable now.
(01:16:20):
I was going to say who has cable nowadays?I mean, it's cable now.
This is the nineties.
Okay. I guess. Okay.
I mean,I guess I had cable in the nineties,
but my viewing was very limited to like,I don't know, Cartoon Network,
Nickelodeon and I wasn't cool enoughto have Disney Channel.
Wasn't, wasn't Cartoon Networkand Nickelodeon both Cable.
Yes. Yes.
Yeah, Yes. Okay.
(01:16:41):
Or if you're fancy you had Disney.
Yeah. If you're fancy.
Yeah. Mr. Fancy Pants.
But I definitely don't think my householdwas fancy because we had a very,
you know, like my sort ofvery smart person who just,
I think he just stole cablefor as long as he could
because he just has he's really
(01:17:02):
he's, really good with radios and wiring.
And I'm the granddaughter of an engineer,so that's what he did.
He engineered cable.
Well, there'snothing better than a bootleg satellite.
Yeah, it was. That's what it was. That's what it was.
Thank you.
Yes. AndI was So I was living in that home.
Didn't I see kids back in the day?
(01:17:23):
You could pirate cable.
Yeah, you could actually pirate it.
I remember.
I remember having to watchif I wanted to watch HBO,
I had to try to make out the picturethrough the, like, static.
Okay, You'reyou're you're right about watching HBO.
You're watching, like, Cinemax, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I think without knowing it,I think without knowing it like I was
(01:17:44):
I was just meant to be a steampunkcharacter.
It's in my blood.
Just don't put any belladonna.
Yeah. Don't know what's off.
I totally forgot about that, where the name came from.
But, you know,
it's funny because you said Nightshadeand I really wanted to be like, tomato.
Yes, tomato.
Or he got real fancy with itand say aubergine.
And as in, instead of itwent on a very fast.
(01:18:05):
So there's a lot of nightshades.
There is actually. It's just most people
think of deadly nightshade.
When you say nature. Yeah, they think of the deadly one.
A Trooper BelladonnaThat's a fun one because it's deadly.
Yeah. I really want to go. wait, hold on. Continue.
I mean, I'm. Don't hold on, though.
So I thought, okay, Yeah.
And I kind of okay, So. Okay.
So that's what I do for the convention.
(01:18:28):
The Aristocrats.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, so.
So, yes, I want everyone to comeand enjoy game show, theater
and all of our amazing panelsor be one of our amazing panels.
And I want to.
Yeah, I'd love foryou guys to come in the game, show theater
(01:18:50):
so that you can earn some countesscredits.
Okay.
If you are the first person to come upto me, the Countess or two Anastasia
Maling and say, Hey, I listen to episodetwo for the entire time.
Give me ten Countess credits.
We will give you ten Countess credits.
(01:19:11):
Yeah, because you can then, you know,
spend those countess credits that willthat's worth at least two potatoes.
Yeah, you can spend that.
Count those countess creditsfor our item shop, which includes
but is not limited to potato, you know, and other staples like packs of ramen.
And somebody got my bath water again.
(01:19:32):
Why do they keep selling it there?
That's got to be at least 20 Countessbucks, though.
And then, of course, again,we will all be there in May Festival.
Orlando Anastasia May Festival.
Orlando
Festival.
Right.
Well, we're planning ondoing a live podcast and main events.
Yes. Do we do we need to apply for a panelor do we just.
(01:19:55):
It's actually
and I know we're so recording right now,but if you all could fill out
panel applications, that would probably beappreciated that way.
A coroner has the description and the nameeverything she needs.
I will do it right now.

Not technically, Not, no, not technically,

(01:20:59):
I've participated in panels.
You have never actually hosteda panel, so.
No, you have not.
No, I have not.
Your panel with Jason. Well, then you don't have to worry about it.
You don't have to worry about.
You'll a co-hostand we'll all help each other out.
Panel type.
Would this be a discussion slash lecture,a workshop,
slash, how to a game showslash contest a demo?
(01:21:21):
It's a performance we got there. Yeah.
The last option was a meet upslash social, by the way.
Okay, I'm panel.
Japanese culture. No. Anime?
No. God. All of these.
I'm putting anime behind the scenes.
Desired Panel length 60 minutes.
No kit fee,
(01:21:43):
not age restricted.
That's the after dark.
I should put in an applicationfor happy hour.

Go, go, go wild after dark age Restricted.
No, not a no. Not interested. Okay.
All right.
13 up, 13 up. Yeah.
No, we're PG 13, but we did say PG 13.
Okay. Yeah.
So we just stick with whatever is PG 13.
Yeah. Yes.
(01:22:03):
Yeah. What days will we be available?
What time would we preferfor our panel to be?
I would say morningbecause usually the between ten and 12.
12 and five.
Yeah.
Ten and 12 because that'swhen I'm thinking unfortunately
like that's going of the best timefor to have main event space.
Yeah.
If we do main events, willyou be doing any of the following at AFO?
(01:22:28):
No, but technically.
no. None of these things.Yep. Yep. You're right.
What type of devices do you plan to bring?
Just put us in main events.
I think there is enough mikes there,
I promise you.
How many my Paul All.
See, like now we can see this listenersand it's a lot easier.
(01:22:53):
Yeah. Yeah.
Do we need to connectaudio device? Sure, Why not?
Yeah, probably. I can't imagine
just being able to eliminate the needof having an audio device
at this current juncture.
Unless we yell really really loud.
Going to go with headphone jack I guess.
Well you need a projector.
Will.
We need a projector. Yes, we.
(01:23:14):
We can need a projector.
We can find a need for the projector.
Yeah. I mean, we can project ourselves.
I mean, we're in main eventsto have it or not need it and need it.
And I have it. Yeah.
And by weI mean yeah, I will be projecting us.
That is my job.
One of my jobs. I'm going to put.
No, because we don't needto put anything on it but ourselves.
Yeah. Okay.
But we can also use it to put themand I like putting them.
(01:23:35):
You know what.
Yeah. Yeah.
HDMI. Yeah, yeah.
You actually know what?I'm going to make it SDI.
But she didn't give me an option. No.
my. My broadcast rack is all SD.
I have some HDMI adapters if I need them, but so AFO staff reserves the right
to remove any unapproved stuff.
Anything unapproved.
Yeah, I just consented to all those things
(01:23:56):
because I definitely will be followingany rules that the con puts up
so you two can finish making a AFO panelrequest.
And what, 10 minutes?Less than 10 minutes?
Not even that was like less.
And so, again, like we told you,the start of this episode,
if you want to help with the convention, come out.
And if you really think
you have something passionate to do,come host a panel we love.
(01:24:20):
I think AFO is the best conbecause of our panels.
I think that is one thing that no, AFOhas absolutely the best panels
format, has the worst panel that whole hallmark
but and like even panelsthat you expect to be the best panel
are the panel about nothing and
I know you if you see a panelabout nothing, go to the panel about.
(01:24:41):
Yeah, for sure.
Like I actually request like,I'm always like, hey, we can't
I just have to go to that one and gameshow.
Can't interfere with that one. Please, please, please, please.
You know that ultimately it's not me,but that's my home.
Every year, my home away from home,I get Isaac.
I get Isaac Hayden on the panelabout nothing to Orlando.
Yeah.
So I don't thinkI mentioned this last time
(01:25:03):
when we were talking about how we gotIsaac hired into Festival Orlando,
but I was actually a panelistback in the day. wow.
yeah.
I used to contribute many eons ago.
Many, many years ago. Okay, you still do.
But Easter.
I also used to.
Yeah. See, I was never a panelist.
I just came to theater. All of right.
(01:25:26):
Yes, kind of yesterday. And I'm telling you, it's all about that.
It's all about that live actionimprov to working for AFO Pipeline.
That is.
There's the two pipelines You got the.
Yeah, the improv.
Yeah I well first I was funneledinto actually acting
and being in early Indiaand like acting on stage, you know,
(01:25:46):
and then, and then playing the card gameall day every day, which was awesome.
And then, and then you were like, I'm done. Yeah.
I'm like, That was who that was all day, every day, not no breaks.
So, you know, I was like,That was so cool.
We make sure that our volunteershave plenty of time and breaks as well.
Yeah, it's not the it's not the old dayswhere if you wanted to eat,
you had to send a player on a questto get you pizza.
(01:26:09):
Yeah. Yeah.
Which for the record, is not allowedif someone tries to get you to buy them
food in exchange for points in Orlando, you don't do it.
Yeah, that's not canonthat doesn't track with the the universe.
Find someone who looks like
they're the most tired in that roomand then tell them what happened.
Because it's probably Julienand he'll not know what to
(01:26:31):
just measure the bags under their eyes.
You'll know who it is.I really like Julien.
Yeah, Julian's great.Yeah, he plays magic.
I play magic. The Gathering.
We play card games.
He helps. I do. Let me some magic. The Gathering.
Yeah, he helps create a card gamethat they play there.
And it's amazing.
Okay.
And just words that he writes.
He is this creative director.
(01:26:53):
You'll learn about another episode.
