Opened in 1886 by cattleman Colonel Jesse Driskill, this opulent hotel has been the setting for high society gatherings, political rendezvous, and an eerie collection of ghostly stories. Johnson and his wife, Lady Bird, who were frequent guests, have also been seen strolling through the halls, but one of the most unsettling hauntings may be tied to “Love Letter,” a painting of a young girl that some say changes expressions, follows onlookers with her gaze, and leaves viewers feeling uneasy or even ill.
