(00:00):
How I ally, I'm Lucinda Koza, and today I'm joined by a very prestigious guest whom I would like to introduce herself and give a little bit of a bio or backstory.
Thank you, Lucinda.
(00:21):
I'm so happy to be here.
I'm so happy to share my love about Shiatsu.
It's my family tradition.
My name is Kumiko Kanayama.
I was born in Hiroshima, Japan, and then I was trained by my grandmother and grandfather.
(00:41):
My grandmother taught me about Shiatsu, how to use the hands.
And work on family members.
Whenever they have a pain, I work on shoulders or head and the feet.
I have a great memory with my mother, my grandmother, and uh, I always treasure the time with her.
(01:05):
And my grandfather and he taught me how to do the exercise we call meridian stretches.
So many people now started to notice and uh, I share with my students and my clients and they love it, they feel immediate effect and they feel such a great release of pain, feel great energy from.
(01:34):
And, uh, one of my students said when she came to Five Lights, she has so much pain, abdominal pain, and I start to show her, let's do exercise.
Shiatsu our body has to move, and then she started to do exercise with me, and then we did medical stretches.
(01:56):
And then she said, right after first session, she said her pain was gone.
So now she does every, every morning, every day.
And today she came back and I said, your pain came back.
How? How you feeling? Are you okay? And she said, no more pain.
(02:17):
I feel so good.
And I was so touched.
I was so happy.
I was so thrilled to hear her pain was gone right after we started to do the exercise.
So many female, so many women had so much pain because of the menstrual and the change of life and this pregnancy.
(02:46):
But this little simple, yet powerful exercise gives such a relief.
And she brought her husband, her kids, and everybody experienced the Shiatsu.
And then her son said.
His thumb doesn't hurt anymore, and um, daughter said she didn't know what to expect.
(03:12):
They usually go to massage and shiatsu is so different from massage.
We work on the energy channels and the pressure points, and the effect is so different.
And then she said, I felt so good.
And then she said, I slept like a baby.
I was so happy.
(03:36):
So, uh, and then they are bonding strongly, and that's, that's the, my happiness.
It's so good.
That's amazing.
Yes, I was happy to try it.
Yes, yes, yes.
Thank you, Lucinda, for helping us to spread the words.
(03:59):
It's just simple.
Just doing this little exercise, move the body and then we stretch the meridians, we stretch the fire meridian and they feel such a saturation of images.
And then we stretch the stomach channels and then they feel that their digestion.
(04:21):
It's so much better.
And then digestion is also connect to the worries, some mental activities.
So they say, oh, I stopped, uh, worrying about every little things I can think more clearly.
And those, uh, makes me so happy.
So happy to hear those comments from my clients, my students.
(04:45):
And yeah.
How does it feel to be.
In charge of the longest running center in the United States? Well, just because my uncle taught me from my grandmother and my, uh, my uncle and my uncle brought shiatsu from Japan to the United States.
(05:14):
And, um, he trained so many people and then so many Americans had their long arms, long legs, and it was so beautiful to see the movement.
And then they loved, um, oriental, uh, Eastern medicines and then they explained such a beautiful ways.
(05:36):
It was in my culture, I didn't pay much attention to it.
Everything was like a.
Free gift.
I didn't know that that was such a deep meaning to the doing exercise or hands on.
I didn't know anything about it.
I said, oh my God, this is so good.
I need to learn about my culture.
(05:58):
And then I.
Stayed and everybody are so nice, so open-minded.
And then we have so many students from so many different countries and that they brought the shiatsu into the not only finger pressure techniques beyond that, beyond more.
Understanding of each other.
(06:18):
And then I feel such a peace within myself.
And I said, oh, this is so good.
And I just kept going.
And I remember my, my parents, they hosting like over 50, uh, students from everywhere they hosted exchange students to home in Japan because they felt, um.
(06:42):
Understanding each other is more important.
That's how we prevent the war.
That's how we prevent the anger, frustrations people to people.
We have the same emotions.
We got five elements, five emotions.
That's the, everybody has the no matter.
(07:04):
Uh, who you are, where are you from, what kind of skin you have.
We have a joy and happiness.
We have.
Sometimes we cry, sometimes we get angry, frustrating, and all the emotions the same.
We worry, we, we want to make every.
People to be happy.
That's the, I truly feel that all of us has it.
(07:28):
It's no ego, it's human nature.
We wanna.
Be good.
We wanna feel good in the body, we want to make people too happy.
Those, um, it's avoidable.
It's, everybody feels same emotions.
So that meeting the people and understanding, introducing, uh, new things makes, made me so happy.
(07:54):
And I wanted to introduce my culture, my.
My, it's the healing.
There's a healing powers.
We feel It's a gift from God, gift from universe, and I feel everybody has the same, everywhere has energies.
So we wanted to share, we wanted to keep going.
(08:17):
That's how I keep just.
Going and then time went by, but the time I realized, oh my God, or something like that, not, it's no miracle going every day Feel good, people are happy, make me happy.
And it just slowly step by step and yeah.
(08:42):
I loved so much everything that you said about.
Becoming a mother everything that you said in your interview Aw.
It just I have 2-year-old twins.
Oh, that's the hard work.
(09:02):
Yeah.
So hard.
It's, it's a lot, but we, yeah, it's such a, again, it's a gift and it's amazing.
Yeah.
You go through pain, but you go through the joy in the same time.
It's just, and also you learn about yourself.
What's missing your.
Self And what, what can I offer? Yeah.
(09:25):
It's hard physical.
It's a hard work.
I feel like I was zombie.
I couldn't sleep.
Two, three years, my daughter kept waking up.
I, yeah.
Can I sleep? Yeah.
I had to pull my energy out of the depths.
(09:47):
Yeah, exactly.
And.
Yeah, and people say it's easy to have twins.
It's not easy.
They have their own personalities and they have their own different body rhythm, and then one wake up, one sleep, they don't wake up.
Same time, it's so hard.
Yes.
(10:08):
And one is a boy, one's a girl.
Oh, that's also different.
Yeah.
Different.
Yes.
Yes.
Oh, I, I have a tremendous respect to you, Lucinda.
Oh, thank you.
(10:28):
Wow.
Thank you.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Well, what, what you said about the time after, um, becoming a Mother is one of the biggest opportunities for growth or transformation for a woman.
Yeah, I really felt that.
(10:50):
Yeah.
I mean, I went to the bottom of my life, but I was able to come back up with my daughters.
So a bond is very strong because of that.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
It's incredible.
Yeah.
Incredible journey.
You, you have to go through.
(11:12):
Yeah.
Have you worked with a lot of.
New mothers.
Oh yes.
Healing, yes.
Yes, the, yeah.
Lot of guts and takes a lot of time and heating energy to go through.
It's such a hard work.
(11:32):
People in the United States, you give a birth and then you go home.
It's not a, you give everything to this, uh, newborn baby babies.
Yes.
Emotionally, physically, everything.
Spiritual, it's not easy.
Yeah.
(11:54):
Yeah.
And it, it's not really, we don't really have that, that we're, we just see our doctor si after six weeks it.
Six weeks is so hard.
I had a C-section.
I couldn't move.
And then I said, oh, you work.
(12:14):
Oh, you have to do this, this.
You cannot just sit in the bed.
And she said, this is the way you heal your body.
But it was so hard.
Yes, I cried.
Oh my God can move.
And I have to do massage because I, I have to do the lot of Shiatsu Reiki to feel better every day.
(12:39):
Yeah.
Oh my gosh.
It's hard to even stand up straight.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Yes, exactly.
You feel like he's been, but keeps crying.
The husband said, what is this? What? So you have to wake up.
We have to stand up, we have to do things.
And I told my mom, my mom what I do, and she, oh, I forgot what wrong.
(13:02):
What do.
Oh no, it's so hard.
Oh, the women, we should get together.
We should talk about it.
Gosh.
Yeah, Want more people to do shiatsu and then ease the pain.
Feel good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's no competition.
We, we feel same way.
(13:25):
It's going through same things.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let.
I think if we don't know what to do to feel better, then it feels.
You feel so scared and alone.
Yeah.
Hopeless.
(13:45):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Luckily I knew about Shiatsu and yeah, I was so lucky to have this self-knowledge and.
Yeah.
Gosh.
I wish, I wish I had known.
Yeah.
I thought I should take a pill, but I said, no, no, no, no pills because of the, I was breastfeeding, so I said, no, no pills.
(14:07):
I have to find a way.
I have to use my own healing power to feel better.
To feel good.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
That's, you must have felt powerful to use your own power to feel Yes.
That girl.
Yes.
Yeah, definitely.
(14:27):
I was so lucky.
Yeah.
Mm-hmm.
That's pretty cool.
And emotionally looked through my daughter, I, I walked on her tummy back and tiny hands, and it was wonderful time together.
Yeah.
Because especially after a c-section that can be hard on the baby as well.
(14:52):
Definitely.
Because I couldn't move for, I was just taking time to move on.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
Not easy.
No.
Yeah.
And you talked about nutrition too.
Oh yeah, definitely.
Definitely.
Yeah.
(15:12):
We can only eat, uh, we have to take time and adjust the body and according to the stage, you change the change, but you eat how you eat.
It's important.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, exactly.
You cannot just eat, eat, eat.
(15:34):
You feel tired.
You and somebody said, why don't you eat? We still, digestive system is not completely organized yet because we.
Give a big birth right? Everything's shifting.
Yeah.
To be changed, we have to open up the sacrum and then the sacrum slowly has to close and it's not easy, so have to eat slowly with the.
(16:05):
We, I start to eat rice and start to eat little bit fruits and then slowly start to eat more, but it just takes time.
Also, you wanna eat and the nurture the baby, so take some vitamins.
That's also important.
Yeah, and I took a protein powder, so she has a good nutrition and she never gets sick and she's very healthy.
(16:32):
Wow.
Yeah, and so obviously that helps you mentally as well, like working on your digestion and Definitely, definitely.
Yeah, definitely healing.
(16:53):
Touch.
Definitely.
It's all connected.
Yeah.
Yes.
It's so interesting because it's, uh, I feel like, you know, in western medicine, that's not how, that's really not how it's taught to.
(17:16):
Mm-hmm.
Bus.
Yeah.
And also doing the exercise important.
I crawled on the floor with my daughter.
Yeah, that was very good.
'cause that's strengthening the, uh, muscle also, um, strengthening the spine.
(17:37):
Uh, it was perfect.
Yeah, it's everything counts.
Yeah.
Uh, yeah.
Also, we need to listen to more of our bodies and if we need to rest, we need to rest.
We shouldn't just do to do things and Yeah, because it comes back to you when you get older.
(18:00):
Mm-hmm.
Hmm.
So if you need to rest, you should take a little nap or even you got power nap.
Even two minutes, three minutes, just close eyes and meditate.
That's also very important.
When you're calmer, your kids gets calmer.
When you are always busy doing things and frustrated or the kids become frustrated.
(18:25):
So it's important to keep your.
Center, keep your calmness inside.
Yeah.
Hmm.
Yes, yes.
There's so many and yeah.
So many little things you can do every day to make the life easier and better.
Feel happier.
(18:46):
Yeah.
Also give a permission to yourself to say it's okay.
Yeah.
Don't beat yourself.
Yeah.
It's important, especially we don't have many helpers around us, so it's, you are the one who carry everything, so it's very important.
When you feel better, the kids started to grown up.
(19:08):
And then more things you can do to do.
So most important things, just be there yourself, and then be there for your kids.
Yeah.
Hmm.
And then you can create such a strong bond.
Strong love connections.
I think that's most important when we think about.
(19:30):
Our lifespan, how many years we can be with the little babies.
That's the very short period of time of our life.
Yeah.
So yeah.
Such a special time Lucinda Enjoy.
Yeah.
(19:51):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Take lots of photos.
They was, they've grown up too fast.
Yeah.
No.
Yeah, it's okay.
Oh, how old is your daughter now, if you don't mind? Oh, mine's in the college now.
(20:17):
She's gonna start her second year in college.
Wow.
Yeah.
So she become so independent? No, she was in Japan.
Then she took a train to go different towns and meet my family, and she came back and she slept two days in the in apartment and then she left for Bulgaria.
(20:39):
Now she's in Bulgaria with her friends.
Yeah.
Oh, she's having a good time.
Yes, definitely.
Definitely.
Good for her courage drive.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Wow.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She knows how to pack her stuff.
(20:59):
She knows how to get going.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's great.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Make sure to massage your kid's tummy the chest.
Yeah.
Calm their mind and also work on their head.
(21:23):
Yeah.
Like that.
It's good.
What would you say is the most important? Thing about being.
A mother.
I think just be who you are.
That's the most important.
Don't pretend, just, uh, be who you are and then just, uh, share your experience.
(21:49):
Share your emotions.
When you're sad, you should say, if you're sad, when you're tired, you should say you're tired.
When you're happy, say you're happy.
Yeah.
Yeah, and be with them.
Do things together with them, and just, uh, spend the time as much as you can.
Time never comes back.
(22:10):
That's my mother said.
It was true.
It was truly it.
It was so true.
Time.
Never came back.
She said Money, it comes back, but not time.
So treasure the time and spend the time as much as you can.
Even you feel like you have to do other things, but just be there.
Just breathe.
(22:30):
It's okay.
Let me just stay with my baby, my babies, and that's such a special, yeah.
That's beautiful.
Oh, thank you.
Thank you.
Yes.
Yeah, we go first three years.
(22:51):
It's most important in life.
You spend a great three years with them, they're gonna be okay.
Another a hundred years.
Yeah.
So my ad advisor said not three years.
Three years too short.
Maybe six or seven years.
That's what they said.
So enjoy.
Yeah.
(23:12):
That's great.
Yeah.
That's really great.
Oh, thank you.
Also, their brain changes all the time, so don't miss anything.
You just be there and the couch every, yeah.
Special moment with them, you know.
Yeah.
Also, don't think this, some two years old is very tough time.
(23:34):
Everything they say no.
It's only just show time, so don't worry.
Yeah.
It it goes by.
And then they change all the time.
So yeah.
Enjoy the ride.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Thank you so much for being here.
(23:55):
Of course, of course.
Yeah.
I admire it so much.
All of the work you've done.
Thank you so much.
I couldn't do it by myself.
I had my team of people, my students, my teachers, and everybody helped me because they believed in shiatsu It's such a good things.
