• No, although it is a common myth created by an old case where two men were arrested for adulteration and misrepresentation of food products. In 1948, the FDC commissioner, Frederick Holcomb discussed some ways to check for good pickles, and one of those ways was to test to see if they bounced or not. The two men in question were selling pickles that were decomposed and contained rattail maggots.
