I Know a Guy Podcast

I Know a Guy Podcast

I know a guy who used to measure his worth by how busy he was. I know a guy who could quote Scripture but couldn’t tell you what he was feeling. I know a guy who lost his temper, lost his marriage, and almost lost himself trying to hold it all together. Yeah…that guy was me. Do you know a guy like that? Or maybe…you are that guy. This is I Know a Guy, a podcast for those guys who need a place to be honest, to laugh a little, maybe cry a little, and remember who you really are. I’m Steve Cummings, and this podcast is an outgrowth of a ministry called Bringing Kingdom, where we walk with men one conversation, one connection, and one community at a time. If you know a guy who needs this conversation - send him this episode. And if that guy is you, I know a guy who’d love to talk with you. That guy…is me. Visit BringingKingdom.org/talk to start your own conversation, and remember - when men live loved, the Kingdom shows up. Thanks for listening to I Know a Guy.

First.

  • Not after success.
  • Not after comfort.

  • Not after you’ve built your own kingdom.

What does it actually mean to bring Kingdom?

Maybe it doesn’t require a microphone.

  • A ministry.
  • A title.
  • Or a platform.

Jesus said: “You are the light of the world.”

And Paul called us: “Christ’s ambassadors.”

The world says greatness means moving up.  Jesus said:

“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.”

The world says protect your position.

Jesus picks up a towel.

The world says make sure people know your name.

Jesus says:  Serve.

You’ve probably prayed these words hundreds of times:  “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done.”

But have you ever stopped to think about what you’re actually saying?

Because if I’m praying for His Kingdom to come…

I’m also surrendering mine.

  • My plans.
  • My timetable.
  • My expectations.
  • Even the outcome I desperately want.

And sometimes what I call surrender is really just me han...

What get the final word in your life?  Jesus said, "No one can serve two masters."

And while He was talking specifically about God and money, money isn’t the only thing competing for the throne.

  • Success.
  • Approval.
  • Comfort.
  • Control.
  • Reputation.
  • Even being right.

Sometimes the easiest way to discover what we’re really serving is to ask:  What am I most afraid of losing?

Because whatever I absol...

What if Christianity is bigger than “believe in Jesus now so you can go to heaven later”?

When Jesus began His ministry, He announced something much bigger:  “The Kingdom of God has come near.”

A Kingdom means there's a King.

And following a King means eventually we have to answer a difficult question: Who actually gets the final word in my life?

We're starting a brand-new series on I Know a Guy called ...

Caleb waited forty-five years.

And at eighty-five years old, he stood in front of Joshua and said:

“Give me this hill country.”

The giants were still there.

But they no longer got to decide who Caleb was.

On today’s episode of I Know a Guy, we’re bringing home the What Are You Waiting For? series.

You’ve survived.

You’ve learned.

You’ve healed.

You know who you are.

God said Caleb had: “A different spirit.”  Not because he saw different circumstances.

He saw the same giants everyone else saw.  The difference was what he believed about God.

On today’s episode of I Know a Guy, we’re continuing our series, What Are You Waiting For? with Episode 6: A Different Spirit.

Because biblical confidence isn’t: “I’ve got this.”

It’s: “My...

Not because slavery was good.

Because slavery was familiar.

Because familiar pain can feel safer than unfamiliar freedom.

Ten men said no.  Two men said yes.  And the crowd believed the ten.

The ten spies said:  “We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes.”

Not in the giants' eyes.  Their own.

And that may be one of the most revealing sentences in the entire story.

    DISGRACELAND

DISGRACELAND is an award-winning music and true crime podcast about musicians getting away with murder and behaving very badly. Jerry Lee Lewis's 5th wife? Dead. Sid and Nancy? Both dead. Why? Because musicians are insane, and insane things happen to them. Why did we lose Amy Winehouse at 27? Was Debbie Harry really abducted by Ted Bundy as she claims? Is Patti Smith not just the "Godmother of Punk", but also the "Original True Crime Girl"? What really happened the night of the Jay Z nightclub stabbing? What do the Diddy indictments truly reveal? All these stories and more, on artists from every genre and their true crimes, in our massive 260-plus story archive. The Dead, the Stones, Johnny, Willie, Frank, Kurt, Courtney, Gaga, Lana, Taylor, and too many to name. DISGRACELAND is music history come to life through audio storytelling as you've never heard it before, with revealing facts: yes, assassins are the real reason the Beatles quit touring—reclaimed myths: no, Mama Cass didn't die from choking on a ham sandwich––and constant reckoning between art and artist––all told through the lens of true crime. This is the podcast for the self-proclaimed "Disgos", the musically obsessed and the true crime heads; the outsiders, the independent thinkers who know that the best history is the history that gets buried. DISGRACELAND is where host Jake Brennan tells the stories they didn't want told. The kind you'll end up telling someone else. Get ready to uncover hidden truths and buckle up for truly edge-of-your-seat storytelling. New, fully scripted, sound-designed episodes are released every Tuesday. Bonus chat-style episodes where Jake responds to voicemails, texts, and emails from Disgos hit on Thursdays, and "Rewind" episodes from our archive drop on Sundays. DISGRACELAND is not a journalistic podcast. It's an entertainment podcast inspired by true events.
