In this soulful and illuminating third episode of In Your Element, Kathleen Kenneally dives deep into the intuitive landscape of the "Clairs"—the expanded senses that go beyond the physical. From clairvoyance and clairsentience to claircognizance and clairgustance, Kathleen breaks down eight distinct intuitive modalities that can shape the way we perceive and navigate the world. She shares real-life examples from her own experiences as a healer and empath, inviting listeners to explore which clairs might already be active in their own lives—whether it's a gut feeling, a sudden vision, or sensing a loved one's emotions from afar.

As Kathleen reflects on her journey, she opens up about how these intuitive abilities have evolved over time, including profound childhood memories and a pivotal hypnotherapy session that helped her break through energetic blocks. She shares moving stories about her father’s quiet wisdom and spiritual openness, illustrating how deep connection can transcend differences in belief. Her message is clear: developing our intuitive senses isn't about being “psychic” in the traditional sense—it’s about tuning into the energetic guidance that’s already within and around us.

With characteristic warmth and vulnerability, Kathleen invites us to honor our sensitivity, nurture our authenticity, and connect more compassionately with others. Whether you’re curious about energy medicine, exploring your intuitive gifts, or simply seeking a deeper sense of alignment, this episode is a heartfelt guide to discovering the unseen layers of self-awareness and connection. Kathleen Kenneally (00:00):
Hello!
And welcome to In Your Element withKathleen Kenneally, where we explore
the wisdom of natural healing andthe deeper rhythms of life from
the five elements to live out loud.
Spirituality.
This is a space to reconnect withyour most authentic self, whether
you're seeking balance through Chinesemedicine, tuning into your energetic

(00:21):
blueprint, or fully embracing themost vibrant, alive version of you.
This is your space toexplore, expand, and.
And realign.
Let's dive into today's conversation.
Hello.
Hello.
And I'm back.
So now I'd, like to just stop herefor a moment and take a few minutes

(00:42):
and just go over what what I meanwhen I'm talking about clairs.
So, clair is the French word for clear
And in This case it, it refers tohaving a clear sense of having like a
specific kind of ability, for example.
And it's, it's similarto our regular senses.
We have our, you know, our sense of smelland taste and vision and sound and so on

(01:03):
and so, but it, these, when we talk aboutclairs, it's an enhanced, more expanded
version, if you will, of our senses.
So there are eightclairs that I'm aware of.
And so we've got clairvoyance, which iswhere you are able to, see if you will.

(01:23):
It's almost like seeing a movie in yourhead or you'll see pictures or whatever
that are, uh, give you informationabout an event or about a person.
and so it's the vision ofbeing able to see something.
So I have clairvoyance.
I see things.
They show me pictures.
I see little video, like a littlemovie reel, things like that.
When I'm working with people,I. That's, I see images.

(01:44):
Then there's clairaudience.
And clairaudience is the abilityto hear sounds or words or music
in your mind's voice, if you will.
So you are hearing things that arenot external to you, but they are
internal and it's your internal hearing.
And so again, you might hear words orvoices or something that is informing
you, something you need to know.

(02:06):
And again, this is one ofthe clairs that I also.
Utilize when I'm working with my clientsis that I can hear things, I hear words
and music and sentences, people talking.
Uh, yes, I hear voices.
So that's another clair.
And then the, the thirdclair is clairsentience.
And this is the ability torecognize feelings, to feel things.

(02:29):
And so it's, it's often, um.
Connected to, you can feelother people's feelings.
You can feel somethingthat's going to be happening.
You might, it's not exactlylike, um, we've got, um,
I guess clairsentience is the ability
to, to kind of also like that gut feeling,
intuition thing, when I was

(02:50):
reading it up, claircognizance having a
deep knowing, understanding, so that's the gut instinct.
So the clair, the clear sensesis the ability to recognize
feelings and feel things, right?
So, so it's similar to the
clairempathy.
Right.
Those are the two that arekind of, but I'll get there.
Sorry, I'm jumping ahead.
So clairsentience the abilityto recognize feelings.

(03:11):
So you feel things, you feelthings when you're in, come into a
room and you might say, Ooh, thisenergy in here feels really happy.
Or, wow, somebody just had afight, or You're feeling tension,
or negativity, or something.
So that's that
sense of clairsentience, the ability
to walk in place and you feel stuff.
Um, like I was saying, when I gointo a club or go into a group, I

(03:31):
used to feel a bunch of stuff andit was like, wow, it was a lot.
Um,
claircognizance is another one.
And clair cognizance, isabout having, deep knowing.
So that's where yourgut instinct comes in.
That's where your intuition,so claircognizance is something
that's pretty widely accepted.
People often talk about, oh, I feltit in my gut, or I had a sense, or I

(03:54):
was, my instincts told me to move in adifferent direction or to go this way.
And so that's what the claircognizance.
So it's much more commonlyused in our, uh, society.
Um, and people are comfortable with.
Using things like my intuitionor my gut instinct on something.
then there's, these are someother ones that are not quite as,
commonly heard of or talked about.

(04:15):
So we have clairsalience andwhat that means is that we have
the ability to smell fragrances.
And these fragrances again, may connectus to a person, may connect us to
a, uh, a memory or it may inform usabout something that's coming up.
Or for example, aftermy mother passed away.
I was holding my little boy at thetime, he was about 18 months old, and

(04:39):
we were sitting in a chair, a rockerchair, and I was hanging out with
him and he was looking behind me andI heard him say he was very verbal.
Like at 12 months old Iheard him say, oh hi grandma.
And right when he said that.
I suddenly got this strong whiff of mymother's perfume, and it was, I, I, you

(05:00):
know, unmistakably my mom's perfume.
And it was just kind of like that, uh,that awareness that, that information that
was saying, ah, my mother is here and myson already alerted me that he saw her.
So, um.
This is kind of my, how mylife is, is continues to be.
Uh, so anyway, clair salience, is thatsmelling clear smelling another one

(05:22):
is clair gustance, which is basicallyclear tasting, same sort of concept
that you might get a taste in your mouththat reminds you of somebody or, or
a situation or a person or something.
Uh, again, it might be giving you aheads up, you know, pay attention that,
you know, something's you get like aburnt taste in your mouth, for example.

(05:45):
And then your food comes atthe restaurant and it's burnt.
So it's kind of giving you a heads up,like, oh wait, something's maybe a little
burnt coming your way, for example.
The seventh one is clairtangency, and sothis is tangency being clear touching,
and so this is where psychometryfalls into this category where.

(06:07):
People have the ability tohold an object in their hand.
It could be a rock, it could besomeone's watch, it could be anything.
They hold it or they touch a counteror they, and they feel the energy
of either past people that have beenthere and let's say they're holding
a watch, they might pick up energyfrom about that person, that they'll

(06:27):
suddenly get a feeling of that personwho they were, what their lifestyle was.
Um, just information, you know, maybe even.
Even information of things comingup for a particular person.
If it's somebody that is sitting in frontof you and like, here, give me your watch
and let me hold it and see what I pick up.
Um, you might even pick up energyfrom the past owner of something.
And so it's, it's a very, allof these are very cool and.

(06:51):
All of us have theability to develop these.
So the last clair thatI'm gonna talk about
is called clairempathy, and I kind
of touched on that when I was talking about the
clairsentience about the feelings.
So clairempathy is basically clearemotion and it really is tied

(07:12):
in with people that are empaths.
And what an empath is, is somebodythat actually feels other people's
feelings, um, has the abilityto feel other people's feelings.
And, um, so, and you can, by feelingsomebody else's feelings, you can
empathize with them and really connectand relate to what's going on with
them.
So clairempathy is connected

(07:33):
to that whole clear sentence, and I believe that it.
Also has the ability for a long distance.
So we might be empathizing or feelingsomebody's feelings that doesn't
have to be sitting in front of us.
It could be we're picking up on somethingthat someone's across the country and
that we're really connected to them andwe're feeling that they feel sad or we

(07:54):
feel that there's something going on.
And I, you know, I'm sure.
Many of you can kind of identify like,oh yeah, I was kind of feeling that, you
know, my cousin was having a hard timeand I called them and sure enough they
were going through something really big.
Or again, in these clairs, it's alsothat feeling of, and I. Of, you know, we
all have that sense, that gut instinctor that intuition or that feeling,

(08:18):
that knowing that, oh my gosh, thephone's gonna ring, or I'm gonna hear
from so and so and so and so calls you.
Um, or someone pops into yourhead and then you hear from them.
They send you an email or they call you.
It's that kind of, this is theenergy of the clairs, right?
This is, this is, and so some ofthem are all blended together.
I've just kind of.

(08:38):
Out, outline them out so youcan kind of get a good sense
of what each one represents.
So yeah, listen to this.
Write this down, hopeyou're writing this down.
Or go back and listen so that you cankind of touch in and say, Hey, Hmm, how
do I access information from the world?
How am I gathering and interpretingthe world through my senses?

(08:58):
And are there any of mysenses that feel, um.
That they're much stronger than other onesor other ones that I feel like I need to,
you know, it's like building a muscle.
It's like going to the gym.
You wanna keep working outand keep working up your
muscles and getting stronger.
And that's the samething with these clairs.
And I truly believe thatwe all have the ability.

(09:18):
To, utilize this, connect to this, tobe as part of our navigation system.
And sometimes we're alreadyactivating them, but we're not paying
attention to, that's what's going on.
So that's what my, that's what I'mproposing to anybody, you know, out there.
I'm proposing to you to takea moment, take some time,
you know, and play with this.

(09:39):
It's, it's fun, you know, it's really, really fun when we find out that, oh.
Gosh, I didn't even knowI was operating like that.
You know, people have this whole, there's a lot of, people that feel like
psychic ability or sensitivity, but thewhole psychic thing, for some people,

(09:59):
that's a scary word for some peoplethat are very, very, um, religious.
Um, it feels very muchanti their religion.
Although so many religious prophets,so many religious people are, you know.
It's energy, right?
So, um, and I'm very respectfulfor everybody's belief.
I'm just saying that some people hearcertain words and it just triggers them.

(10:21):
So I like to think of everything asenergy, and this is just a way of, um,
activating our senses to the next degree.
And so as a way of, like I saidbefore, of navigating our world.
and so yeah, look at it that way.
Look at it as just.
Activating more energy that'salready available to you.

(10:41):
So, as I was saying, I, Ipretty much utilize these.
clairs, if you will.
And some of them are stronger than otherbecause based on the work that I do with
people, um, I'm touching people's bodies.
I'm sensing what's going on in their body.
I'm working with people feelingtheir emotions so they can help
them clear where things are stuck.
Um, I'm listening to my guidance.

(11:03):
Um, to help inform me as I'm workingwith people and giving me again,
ah, check this or look at this.
Um, so I use this a lot.
My clair is a lot in my practice asI'm helping people and I'm so grateful.
And then, you know, I, I also help people.
As an intuitive kind of mentor as well, Ialso help and assist people in these areas

(11:27):
of developing these aspects of themselvesso that they can then utilize these tools.
They can.
I also help people clear any emotionalblocks, clear things out of the way so
that they can embody the most authenticand organic version of themselves
because it is from this place of,authenticity where we are just truly

(11:48):
standing into a hundred percent.
This is who I am, regardless ofwhat's out there, feedback we're
getting from the rest of the world.
'cause if we are being true, true to our soul's calling, then,
then, it, that's all that matters.
Everything else will then fall in place.
I really believe that.
We as humans are going throughthis lifetime, and we might find

(12:10):
ourselves struggling because weare not being true to ourself.
We are not listening to our soul'sinstructions that are saying, Hey, wait
a second, you know, you don't need to,placate this personality, or you don't
really need to deal with this negativity,or, you know, you can make choices
that are based on what is best for you.

(12:31):
So.
This is, this is the kind ofwork that I love to do with
people and I love to help them.
And, and it's all through conversation.
It's all through exchange and it, uh,it all evolves in a very organic way.
So anyway, so that's the clear thing.
So now back to back to the differentawarenesses that I was having.
So the awareness I talked about is like.

(12:52):
My sensitivity as a teenager, my use ofalcohol and, and substances like marijuana
or whatever, was a way to disconnect me.
And so that kind of gave mea little bit of a break, not
knowing that's what I was doing.
and then I went to a, a. Hypnotherapist.
cause I was getting ready when I wasgoing to acupuncture school in my
thirties to, um, I was having troublepassing my herbal medicine classes.

(13:17):
I just had this huge, I mean,it was really hard for me.
Everything else, the part that I wasimmediately tuned into was actually the,
finding the acupuncture points and beingconnected to the meridians in the body.
Like that was automatic, like.
I didn't, I knew exactly where thepoints were, my hands would find them.
And I was a little frustrated'cause I'm like, really?
I've gotta learn thenames of these points.

(13:38):
I mean, this is what I have to learn.
Like this is, this is this name and it's,you know, three inches from this point.
And that was the part thatwas really challenging.
'cause I knew where the points were andI had an innate sense of what they did.
It was kind of wild.
But the herbs, man, the herbs just, just.
Just, I've struggled.
I struggled, so I was going toa hypnotherapist to kind of help

(13:58):
me figure out if there's anyblocks or anything like that.
And so.
Through working with her and she didpast life regression, and if you've ever
done that, it is pretty interesting.
Again, it's, it may, it's not ineverybody's wheelhouse of understanding
or belief or whatever, but for myintents and purposes it was very helpful.
And we did, she did, um, past liferegression and we identified a lifetime

(14:23):
where, um, I had actually been part of a.Chinese dynasty, um, as their herbalist.
And you know, back in the day, thesemajor Chinese families, it's like
they had their secrets and it was therivalry of like who, who had the best
formulas and who had the best secretsin terms of treatments and so on.
And they guarded it fiercely.
And so part of the role ofthe herbalists of these.

(14:46):
Big families was to create poisonand to poison their, their rivals
and to do all this kind of thing.
And so that came up and yeah, I guess youcan already see what the problem would
be as me as this human in this lifetimestudying to be a healer to help people,
that the whole idea of herbs and killingpeople was an energy that was part of my.

(15:10):
It was, was coming up and that was theblock that was keeping me from being
able to learn these herbs because I hadthis association for lack of a, that's
the best way I can explain it to you.
So once I did several sessions with herand we cleared this, um, and released
it, boom, I was able to pass my herbs, herb exams without any problem at all.

(15:31):
It was that easy and that quick, again, I was open to it and I was.
Ready to make that shift.
But it was so fascinating to me.
And so in these sessions with her, another memory came up, which was a
memory of when I was a little kid.
Um, my youngest sister drowned in the pooland I. I didn't have this memory until we

(15:57):
went through the session with her wherewhen my younger sister, who was two and
a half and I was five, she went out, leftthe room, we were watching TV as kids,
and we went and she went out to the pool, got out to the pool, and she slipped and
fell and she drowned in the swimming pool.
And so I, as a 5-year-old, waswondering where my sister was and I

(16:18):
went to go find her and I found her.
I saw her in the bottomof the swimming pool.
So I saw her body in thebottom of the swimming pool.
But what I then, what I saw is I sawher spirit rising above the pool,
and I remember, and this all cameback in the hypnotherapy session.
It was crazy.
I looked at her and she lookedat me and I looked at her and

(16:42):
said, why do you get to go home?
Why do you get to go homeand I have to stay here.
You can't leave me.
Why are you leaving me here by myself?
I can't stay here without you.
And I remember her, and again, thisis all in this therapy session.
Crazy.
And she looks at me andshe said, I have to go.
My time is done.

(17:03):
I've met my agreement by being hereand being your sister and being in
your life, but you have more to do.
You have things you must do, and youare here to help other people, and you.
That's why you're here.
So you are not done yet.
And know that I'm always with you.
I will always be with you even ifI am not here in physical form.

(17:25):
Now, again, this is coming outtathis hypnotherapy and this is
the memory of a five-year-old.
But, and I'm, I'm telling you asa, the memory, as a, I'm telling
you as an adult, but the feelingbehind it, I'm sure you can feel it.
It was just so.
Profound.
And again, this was not a memory Ihad until I did this hypnotherapy.
And then it was like, wow.

(17:46):
And then on my own, uh, I remembered astory that my mother told me that when
I was a little girl, that I think I wasthree or four years old, and we went
to go see some friends and out theyhad a farm and, and they had these dogs
that were barking behind the fence.
And, and I loved all animals.
And so I jump out of the car and I start.

(18:07):
Running towards these dogs, and thesedogs are frothing at the mouth and
they're barking like they're goingeat somebody And I, before my parents
can get me, I am hightailing it.
I am almost to the dogs.
And my mom said I was freaking out.
She said, I couldn't, I didn't, Icouldn't get to you quick enough.
And she said, and the minute you gotabout a foot away from the dogs, they
sat down and they stopped barking.

(18:29):
And she said, I'd never seenanything like that before, ever.
And that they were wagging their tail.
They were, you know, and it was, again, these are the, and I'm sharing all
these stories just to kind of give youan idea of there's so many things that
we don't remember or we don't know.
And I had shut all this away because alsowith being an empath and an intuitive and

(18:51):
a sensitive person, somewhere along theline we get the message of like, oh wait.
We gotta fit in.
We've gotta figure out our camouflageso that we can blend in with the
tribe because we want to feel safe.
And if we're too different, then we are going to get, it's
not gonna be a good thing.
So it was such a cool memory.

(19:12):
And then I, when I rememberthe story, then I remembered.
Wow.
Yes.
I could hear animals talk.
I could hear animals talk whenI was really, really little.
And I, 'cause we always had animalsand dogs and all kinds of horses,
and, and I could hear them, I couldhear, and I'd look and I'd say, you
know, to my parents, I'd say, did youknow she was saying blah, blah, blah,
that she didn't want to eat that.

(19:33):
Or, you know, I was a little, I was alittle kid, but obviously very verbal.
And you know, parents are laughingand smiling and saying, oh, they're
so precocious, and so on and so forth.
And, um.
And so yeah, that was earlyon getting that message of
like, oh, other people can't.
They don't hear the same things, they don't do the same things.
So again, these memories coming up, thesethings I'm reminded of, and stories and

(19:57):
stuff like that started re resurfacingafter I started talking about my dad
and how I became an acupuncturist.
That this being sensitive and havingthese little mm things along the
way that were signposts, that werepointing in the direction that yes.
There is this level of sensitivityand gosh, who knows, maybe I am

(20:18):
gonna get to do something with it.
But it's been a very, very interestingjourney and I'm so grateful to my
father's guidance along the way.
And again, I never felt not heardby my parents, but I think it was
a greater message of just, again, creating your camouflage and figuring
out, How you fit in into the world.

(20:39):
And isn't that what we'reall kind of still doing?
We've gotta try to find our tribe, our people that get us where we can be
truly authentic and, and not be in fear.
And I think right now in our world, thereis so much separation and has been for the
last several years and there's so much,us and them and um, and truly the thing

(21:00):
I want to to say is that spend some time.
Really connecting to the ways thatwe are similar and not different
because we all wanna be loved.
We all want to.
Feel good about our lives.
We all want to feel safe and secure.

(21:23):
We wanna know that our lovedones are also safe and secure.
Um, we want enough food.
We want to know that, um, as we age, that we're being gonna be taken care of.
So we really, that wereally want the same things.
And so.
That's the thing.
Let's focus on the ways thatwe are the same and find the

(21:45):
commonality as opposed to focusingso much on how we're different.
And just imagine the world that we wouldlive in if, if this was the case, if.
For a moment.
We all focused on, and there'sbeen songs written about this.
I know this is not a new concept andand so on, but again, it comes to mind
in terms of noticing and feeling howcan we, how can we better connect with,

(22:08):
with our fellow human being and bringto that connection a sense of empathy,
a sense of love, and a sense of hope.
So with that, I'm gonna take abreak and we will be back, shortly.

Kathleen Kenneally (23:15):
and I'm back.
Hi.
So.
I just wanted to spend a moment and,and kind of go back to talking about
my dad and again, his influence andhis ability to hold space for me, even
though being a man of science, beinga man with not a spiritual bone in his
body, that when I came to him with, Heydad, this is what's been happening and

(23:38):
I'm feeling things and I'm picking upthings from people's bodies and energy and
stuff, even though that was not in his.
Perhaps his wheelhouse, if you will,or how he interpreted the world.
He was very open-minded and verywilling to hear what I had to say.
And from that was able to authenticallyfrom his perspective, give me, an

(23:59):
option or show me a perhaps a direction.
And with his.
Greater intuition and gut instinctand all of those things that
absolutely were activated to him.
He was able to guide me very clearlyand I really connected to that guidance
and because that was truly connectingto my authenticity of who I I am.

(24:21):
And even though we didn't, youknow, right before he died.
Another short story.
So right before my, my dad hadParkinson's as, as time went on,
and this was a very debilitating, disease where they lose muscle control
and it's hard to swallow and so on.
So before he lost his ability to reallycommunicate with words, he, you know,

(24:43):
I would be over there doing acupunctureon him or doing energy work on him.
and he was cool with all of it.
Um, and one day he said to me.
And I would mention, becauseI could feel my mom around us.
'cause my mom had passedmany, many years before that.
And I could feel her around him and I'dsay, Hey, you know, mom's around you.
And, you know, knowing thathe was, you know, this is one

(25:03):
not his belief, if you will.
And so he, he said to meone day, he said, you know.
I really know that you really, really want me to believe in
this stuff, but I just can't.
And I, I remember smilingat him and looking at him.
I said, well, does it bother you?
Does it upset you when I mention mom orthat I feel like she's around or whatever?
And he said, no, no, it doesn't bother me.

(25:24):
That doesn't bother me at all.
And I said.
You know what dad?
That's okay.
Then I said, as long as itdoesn't bother you and make you
feel uncomfortable, I'm okay.
Because I believe enough for both ofus and it makes me feel good to be
able to hold that energy of mom feelingmom around us, or that this just for
me, it's, it's means something for me.
And, and, and he, you know, he just smiledat me and he said, well, then that's fine.

(25:48):
Then we're, then we're good.
But again, it was that ability tojust be like I was talking earlier
about the differences and seeingwhere we connect and seeing where
our connection is with people versushow we're different in that moment.
Again, these are the moments whereyou just go, yeah, we, my father and
I connected on a much deeper level.
It wasn't about.

(26:09):
I believe in God and you don't believein God, or I believe in spirit and I'm a
man of science, you gotta prove it to me.
It had nothing, that wasn'tpart of the conversation.
It was a part of genuinely justsaying, Hey, you okay with that?
Yeah, I'm okay with that.
And I'm like, I don't needyou to believe what I believe.
It's okay as long asyou're not uncomfortable.
and again, it's that ability tojust accept people for who they are.

(26:31):
Period and not layer them up withother stuff or make assumptions about
who they are because of, you know,if someone believes in spirits or
believes in God, or, and there arepeople that don't, doesn't make.
It doesn't, there's nothingmore to it than that.
It's not like you're bad and I'm good.
It's not that.
So again, I'm really gratefulfor my father's ability to, be

(26:55):
that for not only for me, butfor everybody, all his patients.
And that's kind of like my, that's whatI observed, that's what I grew up with.
And so again, that is what Ihold in my space for people.
I'm not here to makepeople feel uncomfortable.
I am respectful of everybodywherever they're coming from.
And so.
It is about us finding that place ofconnection so that the work can be

(27:17):
done, the healing can take place, andthat is kind of what I'm all about.
So just to recap everything, thatI've talked about today, basically
we talked about the clairs.
I wanted to share with you what thedifferent clairs were so that you
can, you know, perhaps learn moreabout yourself, which is awesome.
And also to talk a little bit about mydad and the role he played and I hope.

(27:40):
Some of the stories that I've sharedwith you today in terms of my own, oh,
road to becoming a healer or that'sbrought me these little steps along
the way that's brought me to whereI am now and how I work with people.
I hope that was helpful.
Um, I enjoyed sharing them with you.
I. Uh, there are more stories.
There's always more stories, and, I lookforward to sharing more of them with you.
