In this deeply resonant episode of In Your Element, Kathleen Kenneally explores the Metal Element—the energy of autumn, discernment, and letting go. She describes this as the season of refinement, a time to evaluate what still serves us and what is ready to be released. Like the trees shedding their leaves, we are invited to pare back, to cut away what has become heavy or stagnant, and to uncover what is most precious and true.

Kathleen reflects on her own experience of physical and emotional transformation—facing an unexpected surgery during the fall season, where the literal knife of Metal became both a tool of healing and a symbol of release. She speaks to the paradox of this element: how the same sharpness that cuts can also clarify, refine, and restore balance. Through this lens, she invites us to see the sacred precision in letting go—how every incision, every decision, can be an act of trust in the body’s innate wisdom to transform.

As she prepares for her recovery, Kathleen’s clinic remains open, continuing to offer BioMat, red and blue light therapy, BrainTap sessions, and Reiki for those seeking grounding and renewal. This episode is both a reflection and a transmission—a gentle reminder that letting go isn’t an ending, but the necessary breath before transformation begins.

In Your Element Intro (00:00):
Hello and welcome to In Your Element with
Kathleen Kenneally, where we explorethe wisdom of natural healing and
the deeper rhythms of life fromthe five elements to live out loud.
Spirituality.
This is a space to reconnect withyour most authentic self, whether
you're seeking balance through Chinesemedicine, tuning into your energetic

(00:21):
blueprint, or fully embracing themost vibrant, alive version of you.
This is your space toexplore, expand, and realign.
Let's dive into today's conversation.

Kathleen Kenneally (00:36):
Hello and welcome to In Your Element with Kathleen Kenneally.
How is everybody doing tonight ortoday or this afternoon or whenever
you choose to Listen to this, podcast.
I've been gone for a while.
I've been busy doing lots of things.
I think the last time you heard fromme, I was talking about late summer.

(00:57):
And all the energy of the earth element.
And since then, here we are in Octoberand so we are full on in the element
of metal and the season of fall.
So I'm sure all of you can feel thedifference of everything and how
the energy has shifted and, gosh, today we had some rain, which was.

(01:20):
Well, you know, we need it.
Absolutely.
We need to have, rain.
and it was a really a nice shift inkind of seeing like, yeah, definitely
we're in a different season becausein California we tend to have pretty
warm weather a lot of the time, and so.
Yeah, here we are.
We're in fall.
Full on.
And so today I wanted to spenda little time talking about the

(01:41):
fall season, the metal elementand what that means for all of us.
And to kind of have you guys thinkabout some things out there in terms of,
what's happening in your life right now.
And so the fall and the metalelement Is about discernment.
If you think about metal, it'svery sharp, it's very precise.

(02:01):
There's a hardness to it, and so it'sreally about cutting things away.
Metal energy is like, I'm done.
I'm cutting it.
I'm being really clear.
It's about clarity.
It's about.
Knowing like I'm done with this and I'mready to take something else on, or I'm
making room to allow something else in.
So every season, every season gives usthe opportunity to, let go and release

(02:27):
what's no longer serving us to makeroom for the, beautiful things, the new
things that we are ready to bring in,to embrace, to take on, to live with.
and so the fall is especially potentbecause the energy of the metal and the
energy of fall very much supports that.
You've heard me talk about thespring energy that really supports

(02:49):
pushing us forward and movingus into this next season, right?
Very much like we're waking up andthe fall is actually the beginning
of the slower times of the year.
So we're moving into a more, what they refer to in Chinese
medicine as a yin period.
And so the yin energy isbeginning to slow down.
And so as you look around, yousee leaves are actually falling

(03:11):
from the trees that things areactually releasing and letting go.
And so the energy is very potent and verymuch supports the energy of like, all
right, what are we letting go of now?
So what do we wanna do duringthe fall, during this metal time?
Is that, for example, you know, thisis a good time to, to purge, to do.
Bring cleaning, if you will, butit's really a fall letting go

(03:33):
where you go through, where you'regoing through and saying, okay, I'm
keeping this, I'm letting go of that.
And it can be physical things,it can be people in your life.
It can be, thought patterns, beliefs, um,and it really allows us to shed our skin
shed this layer, if you will, and to stepinto a brand new version of ourselves.
In a slightly differentway than the other seasons.

(03:56):
And I think just because theenergy really, really is about
shedding, letting go, releasing and, allowing the new to come forward.
And so let's talk about someof the different associations.
Okay.
So.
I'd like to talk about, like in Chinesemedicine, the organs that are connected to
it are the large intestine and the lungs.

(04:17):
And if you think about those two organs, they're both organs that actually
take stuff in and let stuff out.
Okay?
So in our, with our lungs, we take breathin and we exhale it out just like that.
And so we're.
Exhaling the old and bringing in the new.
When we feel inspired, we are bringingin this inhaling this new energy

(04:39):
and then releasing the energy, theair, whatever that we are done with.
Same thing with our intestines, right?
We take our food in, we aredigesting it, and then it goes
through the intestines and then it.
You know, sifts and sorts and releasesthe waste that we no longer need.
So you can see these are so,these Chinese are brilliant.

(05:00):
You know, this is in ancient timesthat they drew these conclusions
based on what they saw around them.
And I just, this is one of the.
Things I love about this medicine.
This is the beauty of this medicine, the magic of this medicine.
'cause it makes sense.
So there we have it, these two organs.
And so the kind of things that I seeduring this time when we're out of
balance is that, our metal element, forexample, is that people might experience

(05:22):
constipation or upper respiratory.
So this is the time, the beginningof like the flu season where we get
coughs and, and upper respiratorycongestion and actually allergies.
People get.
A lot of allergies duringthe fall and the spring.
These are the two seasons.
I see a lot of allergic responses becausethe fall, we get a little dampness.
We have a little mold.

(05:42):
It's just a different way that we'reresponding to our environmental elements.
And so, we have all theseassociations of the lungs, the large
intestine, and the color is white.
The emotion is grief.
So what does that mean?
That means that oftentimes whenpeople are grieving, they will.

(06:04):
Develop upper respiratory problems, they'll get a cough, they'll become sick.
They might get a cold.
and so the grief will settle in our lungs.
And so sometimes people might show upand we'd be talking and they might be,
gosh, I have this ongoing bronchitis, orI have asthma, or I have, and sometimes
there's some really deep, deep, deep,um, levels of grief that have been

(06:26):
layered over by other things in life.
The asthma perhaps, is a representationof not being able to take a full breath,
not being able to find inspiration inour lives when we are able to inhale so
deeply that we are inspired to create,to be bright, to go out there and, and
be really clear and have clarity aboutwhat we want and what we're gonna do.

(06:50):
And the opposite of that is thatwe don't have clarity, that we have
difficulty making decisions that.
We are unclear that we are feeling perhapssometimes paralyzed and unable to move.
We are depressed.
I mean, that's what grief, sadness, allof that, the energy is not in inspired,
There's not a fullness to the energy.
So these are the kind of things.

(07:12):
I see in my practice, I seein the world is that, so now
we're in the metal element.
The emotion is grief.
The sound or the tone I've oftentalked about that is weeping.
So that sound of weeping.
And so what do I mean by the sound?
So sometimes again, someone mightbe sitting in my chair and I'm
talking to them and learningwhat's going on in their lives.

(07:34):
We're determining how I'm gonna besthelp them, is that I'm listening to
their voice and the sound of their voice.
Gives me information so someone could betalking and underneath just a normal tone.
I hear the weeping, I hear the sadnessin the voice, and it's very subtle.
But we're, you know, as we'regoing through this medicine and

(07:54):
learning about it, we learn howto hear these different things.
And so again, these are all the thingsthat I'm encountering when I'm done,
when I'm working with my patients.
And just outside in the world.
So again, so I poses the question to you.
Have you noticed that your energyis inspired during this time?

(08:16):
You feel more clarity, you have discernment.
Are you able to make decisions anddecide like, oh, I'm done with that.
I'm keeping that.
Are you struggling with this a little bit?
Is it a little bit of both?
You know where you havemoments where you are like.
You're on and other moments whereyou're like, oh, I'm exhausted and
I can't, I can't do another thing.
You know, which, it's not necessarilygrief, but in the letting go

(08:39):
process, there can be some griefbecause we are revisiting things.
We are reevaluating, we are lookingat, let's say, an object and we're
having memories and saying, oh gosh,I remember when I wore that dress.
You know, the last time was whenI was with so and so and, and.
And then you remember maybe the,the breakup and everything else that

(08:59):
transpired as well as the good stuff.
So really, it's a dance between, the sadness and the, joy of being
clear and being done with somethingso that you can move into something
else that's even better for you.
So.
Again, where are you in thismiddle element right now?
Are you experiencing your own, transformation, if you will?

(09:23):
Are things showing up that you arehaving to address and look at and
go, wow, am I finally done with this?
Or I thought I finishedworking through that?
Boy, let me tell you, this is theseason for that stuff coming up.
Where unexpectedly things are comingup and you're like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
I thought I already dealt with thatissue, or I did the work around that,

(09:46):
or I was free of that relationship,or, wow, that was 10 years ago.
Why am I rememberingand why am I feeling it?
So, yeah, because this iswhat the season is all about.
It's about bringing stuff up sothat we can take another look and
then decide if it's really valuable.
For us to keep it or to say, okay, onceand for all, I'm gonna feel all those

(10:07):
feelings one more time and then be done.
And so there's so much healingand so much power in that.
So you know, can anybody relate to that?
I mean.
I think we've all had this experience oneor more times in our lives where things
come up that remind us and take us down aroad that we haven't traveled for a while.

(10:27):
and it's unexpected, and that'skind of part of this too, is that in
transitional times, a lot of timesthings come up that we are not expecting,
that we have no, no idea that's evenin our mix or coming up in our path.
And so.
Wow.
Yeah.
So the, this energy of the metal element, this energy of fall, of letting go, of,

(10:51):
breathing, of taking things in, you know,I'd like to share with you, I have my own
kind of energy around this energy that'shappening with me in this transformational
time and, um, unexpectedly, and I'msure people, again, we can relate
to this, is that out of the blue.
A medical situation showedup for me that I had no idea.

(11:12):
It was a fluke that we found out, andit was literally, I had no symptoms,
I had no pain, I had no issue.
It was just like, what, what?
I have a, I have a mass in my abdomen,in my uterus, like, what's up with that?
and so.
This began and it happened, it startedhappening right at the end of the

(11:32):
late summer into the beginning of thefall, So it was like, okay, here we go.
What's happening here?
And so this journey for mehas been this unexpected.
And again, I look at back andI see the timing of everything.
And I'm actually gonna be having surgeryat, gosh, in a week, a week from today.
And, you know, with the metal element,I mean, basically they're gonna be

(11:54):
cutting something out of my body, literally with the metal element.
And so it's very, very timely thatthis physical transformation that's
happening by releasing somethingthat's in my body that I don't need
anymore, that I have no use for.
And perhaps at one point.
It was useful, and I kind of look atthis, um, I have a fibroid, I'm just

(12:17):
gonna say it out, that I have a fibroidand I look at this fibroid as kind of
like it formed, and I see this just kindof in a different viewpoint, is that
it formed in some way to protect me.
It, it developed in protecting me fromperhaps the energy that I'm taking
on from other people, the things thatI have not processed for myself yet.
the things that, that have been buriedand hidden and that it's like, okay, nope.

(12:41):
can't carry this around anymore.
And so This is what's happening.
And so I am going through my owntransformational journey right now,
and, I'll be honest, I'm not usedto being on this side of the table.
I am used to being the guide, theperson that's holding the energy
to help other people going throughtheir transformation and releasing

(13:01):
and letting go and processing.
And so here I am Doing it.
and again, in this process, reachingout to people around me to be my support
and so again, so many changes, so manyopportunities for growth, and I'm so
grateful that I'm actually going throughthis because again, it, it gives me,

(13:22):
again, another experience that itnot only helps me grow and shift and
change, but it's something I can sharewith you in this process and I hope.
You know, out there, you can relate tosome of what I'm saying of yeah, sometimes
we do have to, when we are used to beingthe one that's helping and, taking care
of, and making sure everybody else isokay, and, I know people can relate to it.

(13:44):
I've talked about this invarious ways, to now being in
a position where I'm actually.
Seeking help from other people, and I'mlearning how to receive in this process.
Not that I'm, obviously I can receivethings, but this is a much bigger lesson
of trusting and knowing that even whenwe're, when things are unexpected,

(14:04):
even when things are showing up out ofthe blue, that it's important to find
a place of peace and trusting that.
It's exactly where I'mmeant to be in this moment.
And knowing that this process isserving not only my good, but it's
serving the greater good because asI release and let go of things that
are no longer serving me, that energythen transmutes to other people.

(14:29):
I'm not saying giving other peoplepermission, but it also holds the
energy so that other people who arealso going through their transformation.
So again, the questions are,Hey, what transformation are
you going through right now?
What things are you ready to let go of?
What things are showing up that you areunexpected and how are you handling it?

(14:49):
Because I'm telling you, in thebeginning I was kicking and screaming.
I was kicking and screaming, eventhough I know all this stuff.
There I was in my humanness about it.
That was just, I didn't wanna do this.
You know, like a little kid.
I'm five years old.
Don't wanna do this.
It disrupts my lifeand I got things to do.
But I'm telling you, I have settledright into this whole process of

(15:12):
letting things go and trusting andknowing that I'm letting things go.
I'm making room for.
Better things to come in, greaterenergy, more awareness and healing in
a way that I have yet to experience.
So I'm grateful for this and I wanted toshare this with everybody because I will
be, out of my office for about six weeks.

(15:35):
During this time from October20th, basically, probably until
mid-November, maybe third week, right around Thanksgiving ish,
something around in there.
and so, I probably won't be doinganother podcast for a while.
Who knows?
Maybe while I'm in recovery,I will be doing a podcast.
We'll see how it all goes, how it unfolds.
But, I just wanted tolet everybody know that.

(15:56):
I'm still around.
I'm just gonna be recovering, goingthrough my own transformation and my
releasing of the energies that are nolonger serving, which is part of this
whole fall season and the metal element.
so, finally, I'd like to read toyou, I, I create a, a channeled
message comes through every season, and I wanted to share with you

(16:17):
the channeled message of the fall.
So, here we go.
While every season gives us anopportunity to let go of the old to
make room for the new, as we start anew cycle, the fall season carries this
energy even more so just look aroundin nature as the leaves are turning
colors and falling from the trees.

(16:39):
Illustrating a very real physical sheddingof that which is no longer useful.
The fall season is associatedwith the metal element, the
lungs en large intestine, and theemotions of grief and sadness.
Oftentimes, when we let go of something orsomeone, a sense of loss is experienced.
This can settle in the lungs of theemotion is not dealt with properly.

(17:01):
This time of year marks a shift intocooler, quieter, and more reflective time.
Again, we pause, take a breath, and startpreparing for the cooler months ahead.
An important part of the process is thecareful selection of the things you want
to take with you into the next seasonand what you are ready to let go of.

(17:23):
Spirit reminds us to pause, breathe, reflect, and select.
It is not necessary to react rightaway or to respond immediately.
We can say things such as, letme get back to you, or, let me
think about that, or simply pausebefore responding or taking action.

(17:44):
Take time to truly listen and reflectbefore answering a question so that you
are very consciously opening your heartfirst and blessing people with your words.
It is from this position that we arebetter able to hold the energy of love

(18:04):
and acceptance and can pivot into thenext cycle of growth and learning.
Finally, with each breath there existsthe possibility of new inspiration.
We breathe in new energyand exhale out the old.
We breathe in gratitude for ourlives and exhale, love into.

(18:25):
The world.
Focus on the things in your lifethat inspire you to expand into
the greatest version of yourself.
Go forward and be inspired.
And so with that, I would like to.
Say, thank you so much for your supportand for listening to this, podcast

a moment to pause and reflect in yourown world and see working, what's not
working, what you're willing to change.
