(00:00):
Coming up on this episodeof it's that part.

(00:03):
Things that we wanted to do at ourgenesis for ourselves and others was
to hopefully be a light to shine, toserve, to stay faithful, not just.

(00:23):
Yeah.
It's that part, the part that makes sense.
The one that hits different withyour host, Jesse Lee Hammonds.
Let's get into,
what's that spark?
Oh, that park that brings you back.

(00:44):
What's that?
That, that makes it.
The truth,
okay?
It's that part truth in everyfact, because facts are the
critical parts of the truth.
I'm Jesse Lee Hammonds,unapologetically progressive.

(01:05):
I'm your host, and what we dohere is remind you and help, um.
Make you aware of the people, places and things that matter from
a historical, current events andspiritual perspective with, uh,
solo episodes as well as interviews.
It's that part.

(01:26):
But in this episode, we'll, um, we'llbe hitting something a bit different.
In fact, uh, a lot different.
Uh, something personal, something Ifeel that's sacred because July 3rd
today marks nine years of marriagewith my wife, my queen, my partner,

(01:49):
my friend, and my sister in Christ.
Latasha, in fact, uh, it is actually12 plus years of being together.
And while I don't always, uh, speakpublicly about, um, our relationship
today, I, I, I feel led to pause, reflect and honor the woman who

(02:12):
has, uh, been a blessing, not.
Just to me, but to everyonewho truly knows her.
Now, this isn't about showingoff, it's, it's about showing up.
Actually, it's about giving thanksfor love that lasts, promises that
keep growing, and, uh, for Godwho remains the sinner of it all.

(02:40):
So today, I'm.
Sharing a piece of my heart, uh, a, a sortof a poem, a, a prayer, and a thank you.
It's especially for her, but I'll alsoshare it with all who are choosing to walk
in love, walk in faith, and doing theirbest to build something real in a world

(03:04):
that really and truly needs it right now.
So I, I put together some bars in aspoken word form titled, still Saying Yes.
Still saying yes.
It's for her, it's for us together as one.

(03:25):
And maybe just, maybe it's for you too.
I said yes to you in 2016, and I'vekept saying yes every day since.
Through changes we neversaw coming through joys.
We couldn't have planned throughlong nights, loud days, full

(03:50):
of a lot of people, of course.
And.
Quiet in between moments where onlyGod could hear us, I see God's hand
in all of it, and how he brought ustogether in church, which included
tweeting back and forth for awhile before I, I actually asked.

(04:10):
You for your, uh, your phone number.
But I see God's hand in how he holdsus still and how he keeps shaping us
for something greater than just us.
Our love grew roots, and then itgrew branches with, with every

(04:31):
adult and minor child, everychallenge, every unexpected joy.
We've been writing a storythat's bigger than us.
And more beautiful becauseof God's love for us.
It has been written unless theLord builds the house, the builders

(04:53):
labor in vain, Psalm 1 27, 1.
But God has been building ourhouse and our household with us.
One prayer, one promise, one piece at a time.
In fact, one hour, oneday, one week, one month,

(05:18):
and yet another year
at a time.
We're not perfect, but we are planted.
And what's grown between us isreal and strong and still becoming
things that we wanted to do at ourgenesis for ourselves and others

(05:44):
was to hopefully be a light.
To shine, to serve, to stayfaithful, not just to each other,
but to the one who lit our pathsas individuals and together as one.
I thank God for your strength, yourlove, and the way you kept choosing us.

(06:09):
And if you asked me again, I'd stillsay yes to you through all of this,
through all that's still to come.
So babe, if you're, ifyou're listening to this.
I know you probablydidn't expect all of this.

(06:31):
In fact, you're probablyshaking your head,
but, um, I, I, I, it's my sincere hopeyou feel honored, cherished, and seen by
me, because that's what this July 3rd isall about, honoring you and honoring us

(06:52):
as a praise to God, our father in heaven.
It is not just about markinga date on the calendar.
It's about honoring a covenant, which is what a marriage is
with God in it that makes it sacred.

(07:14):
One that's still alive,one that's still growing.
Now to all of our adult and minor childrenWing, you've flavored all of our lives in
ways that, that we couldn't have imagined.
You've made our days fuller andour faith even more necessary, and

(07:37):
our prayers more purposeful, andto every couple out there still
walking, still working, still praying.
Just keep showing up.
Keep saying yes.
Love doesn't grow on autopilot.

(07:57):
It grows with intention, humility, sacrifice, and God's grace.
And yes, it grows best withGod, really at the center and
the least when he's really not.
Proverbs 1822 says, hewho finds a wife finds.

(08:19):
What is good and receivesfavor from the Lord.
And I can say I've received favor.
I know it, and I thank God for it.
Let's pray.
Father God, thank youfor the gift of covenant.

(08:42):
Thank you for buildingwhat we cannot build alone.
Thank you for my wife.
Or her fire, or her strength, her love, her heart, or the way you continue to
shape her and shape me through her,and then shape us together as one.

(09:10):
Thank you for all the now adultchildren, our grandchildren, and for
the newer editions of minor children.
Children that you've entrusted to our care
for the challenges that refinedus, for the joys that remind

(09:31):
us and for the journey thatcontinues to unfold before us.
Please help us love as you love Father Godto serve without keeping score to shine
in dark places and to remain faithful, not just to one another, but to you.

(09:57):
Our North Star.
Let our marriage be a lie to a witnessand a reflection of your grace.
In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
Alright, to my wife, I love youyet still and again, and always.
Happy anniversary baby.
