Georgette Beck, the host of Junk to Jewels Podcast, beautifully pays a special tribute to her father, George Kijewski, who passed away on January 20, 2024.
Georgettes in memory story starts off with her grandparents on her father’s side, both of whom she considers bad assess.
Georgette describes a beautiful photo of her mom framed for her dad with a personal message written on it; “George, my love for you is everlasting. Joanna.”
Turns out, both of Georgette’s parents’ love for each other was everlasting. Georgette’s parents were on the cusp of celebrating 50 years of marriage before her mom passed away (June 2, 2017). Their 50 years were years full of life, vibrant, colorful, interesting life, full of adventures, love, joys, pains, mountaintops and valleys. Both her mother and father understood sacrifice and hardship. They also understood what love, faithfulness and loyalty truly mean. For they both lived this out to each of their final days here.
Georgette states, “My parents have left us kids a beautiful legacy and for all of us really, of two lives lived who understood what love is about. Their story is an epic love story. It’s a story not just about the guy getting the girl in the end, but about a guy who “got” the girl in the beginning and about a girl who “got” thee guy. And when I say “got” I mean literally, they found each other, but also figuratively, for they truly understood each other.”
George and Joanna’s love story portrays epic love. And it starts off with a handsome young man referred to as “Gorgeous George” and a very beautiful young lady named Joanna. Life began for the couple in some usual ways and with plenty of unusual circumstances woven in through the years.
On July 22, 1998, Georgette’s mom gifted her father with a Bible and on the inside wrote, “To my beloved, tenderhearted husband George who I love even more today than yesterday. Joanna.”
Georgette shares how the date has significance. You see that was a season of life full of transition and loss. Both of her parents hit a bottom of sort, emotionally, financially, mentally and physically. Georgette describes specific circumstances.
She ends by saying, “But honestly, my key takeaways on how to live life well came from my parents, from having watched them live their lives through all of their ups and downs as they navigated mistakes made by themselves or by others.
My key takeaways from lives they led are:
Georgette challenges individuals to show up for life and do the best you can.
Her parents did the best they could every single time. They failed, but they kept trying. We failed too. But it’s what we do with the failure that matters.
Georgette asks viewers and listeners to look at past and present photos.
Decide who you wish to be and what you truly desire for you and your family’s future.
Life and family are what we make of it.
Everlasting love was experienced by her parents. And Georgette says everlasting love is for us all.
