We’re starting the 36 Questions That Lead to Love! A new series within What’s on the Cards.
Originally created by psychologist Arthur Aron and his team in the '90s, these questions were designed to explore whether two people could build emotional closeness, maybe even fall in love, just by answering a structured set of increasingly personal questions.
Since then, they’ve become so much more. From viral essays to date nights, therapy sessions to friendship deep-dives, the 36 Questions have become a go-to tool for building connection, one honest answer at a time.
Emma and I aren’t doing this to fall in love (we’re already there), but to explore what it means to stay in love, to keep learning about each other, and to carve out space for the kind of conversations that matter but often get lost in the noise of daily life.
In this episode, we start with the first three questions: 1️⃣ Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest? 2️⃣ Would you like to be famous? In what way? 3️⃣ Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you’re going to say? Why?
They might seem light, but they open up so much. Each answer is a window into who we are, what we value, and how we see the world.
Over the next few weeks, you’ll hear us move through the full 36, one, two, or three questions at a time, sharing openly with each other, and with you.
We hope you’ll listen, reflect, and maybe even start asking these questions in your own life, with someone you love, or someone you want to know more deeply.
Let’s go there...together!
