Podcast Segment: Let’s Talk Situationships in the Black Community**
Hey y’all, welcome back to the show. Today we’re diving into something real—a topic that’s been coming up a lot lately: *situationships*, and how they’re playing out in the Black community.
Now, for those who don’t know, a situationship is basically a romantic connection without a clear label. You’re more than friends, but not quite in a committed relationship. Sounds chill, right? But let’s be real—it’s not always as simple as it seems.
In our community, situationships come with some deeper layers. We’ve got generational trauma, broken trust, and systemic issues that influence how we show up in relationships. A lot of us are still healing—emotionally, mentally—and instead of being vulnerable, we stay in these “gray areas” because they feel safer.
There’s also this disconnect between Black men and women sometimes—miscommunication, lack of trust, or even fear of rejection. Add in social media and pop culture glamorizing toxic love and casual hookups, and it’s no surprise that clarity and commitment can feel like a thing of the past.
But here's the thing—situationships can leave folks feeling emotionally drained, confused, and lowkey resentful. No clear expectations. No accountability. Just vibes… until it’s not.
So the question becomes: are we avoiding love because we’re scared of getting hurt, or because we’ve never been shown what healthy love looks like?
Let’s get into it.
