(00:00):
Good evening, everybody. So today I have a Franklin Waltwing, aka the King of Traders.
Franklin is a highly regarded social media expert with a passion for social entrepreneurship.
So you're very welcome onto the show and thank you so much for taking the time
to teach us a bit about yourself.
So first, can you tell us a bit about yourself and

(00:23):
how this all started for you hi guys
yeah so a bit me i don't know where to start but i've been in the kind of entrepreneur
field for many years the king of trainers title started from when i was like
five years old my mom loved tennis she loved boris becker and when boris becker
won the women's championship in 85.

(00:45):
Would buy me the latest tennis shoes and that kind was a big deal back in 80 and then from there.
The kids in the playground were making their trainers because i had the latest trains
and it kind of grew and grew i used to
go to america in the 90s come back
and buy trainers and and bring trains to my friends and i
was kind of researching before it was a thing but apart

(01:08):
from that a lot of things in the world so that's kind of
my nickname and in the business world i've worked with
many different companies all the four companies you can think of consultancy content
content everything you know and I'm an advocate for
social media and social media teaching so I teach social
media in a bunch of universities colleges around trees so yeah
that's impressive Franklin and and what is

(01:31):
it that makes your company different I suppose to all the
other social media managers that we have out there nowadays a lot
of them haven't done as much as work as I have done I'm sorry
to kind of say that but I'm I'm a
true content creator and I'm an influencer before influencing
was even a thing you know wearing items

(01:51):
and trainers and things like that before it became
something in the social space in the physical space where
i'm from in i was influencing back then so at least
now it's kind of you see a lot of trades
nowadays i know 10 years ago you didn't have
makeup artists or freelance hairdressers or influencers
or any of these things and now they just seem

(02:13):
to gone skyrocket it's it's it's really.
Amazing i believe in ireland they're trying to put a tax on
it is that the same in the uk do they tax you for
yeah they try yeah they're trying to yeah i think it's
if you have professional side hustle that's the
kind of quote unquote term a professional side
hustle they're trying to kind of group it together because a.

(02:33):
Lot of these things it was just done as a hobby as a pastime but now they're
serious serious business like influencers are making more money than mps so
so it's now a serious business so wow and do you mentor people for going into
this world if somebody wanted to start off.

(02:54):
Do you mentor them you do mentor them i do i do
i've written about i've got about four or
five audio books on the subject of making money
online and things like that so i've been i've been
the kind of golf club for a long time of
this so i teach i mentor i give
advice i do seminars i do master classes all on

(03:15):
how to kind of use social media to gain a following okay that's impressive And
I think there's a lot of listeners out there that would definitely be interested
in listening to this podcast because a lot of people want to go into that world
of influence and they're making more money than an MP. I can see why.

(03:36):
Have you ever worked with, I suppose, high status clients?
So have you, I know you've worked with big companies, but have you worked with
individuals that are famous, have a bit of a name? I have people like,
I don't know if you know the program Four Rooms.
Four Rooms has a specialist watch dealer called Tom Bolt.
Tom Bolt is my friend and also a client.

(04:00):
I don't even call him a client anymore. He's like a friend. I helped him set
up his social media profile and helped him kind of get on his way.
He's the watch guru. He's probably top two and not number two watch dealers in the world.
He's a big deal. So that's one of my top tier clients.
But he's a friend. I don't even call people class. Well, they're friends, so.

(04:22):
And are you in London? Is that where you live?
Yeah, I'm based in London, North London. Grew up in Tottenham.
And yeah, now live in the suburbs.
Oh, wow. The suburbs, yes. My parents moved to the suburbs for quite your life.
So you started this company in 2010 from your website. That's what it says. Yeah. How many years?

(04:47):
Yeah, well, my social media, it's kind of, yeah, I mean, there was a company
I started called Fabs Network, which was a social media network where it was
kind of like Instagram and Facebook put together.
That one I started in 2010. I ran that for a couple of years.
But in terms of social media teaching and training, I've been teaching since
probably about 2008, you know, trying to kind of get people to understand the

(05:12):
power of social media and how it can impact the future. Yeah.
And I, you know, I know we're going to talk about this later,
but I got a text talking in 2014,
10 years ago, trying to get the government and people to learn,
teach, get people, get the government to teach young people social media from
a young age so they'll understand how it benefits them going forward.

(05:35):
And do you think this is, do you think this is part of schooling?
I suppose that people just end up like sheeps, you know, that they don't actually
want people to have that power.
Like you said, people are making more money than MPs in government.
So do you think they're trying to stop that yeah
well the thing is i think they need to
understand that they can't stop it i think when i done my my

(05:55):
my business at the time was called social media for schools and i i done programs
and develop programs to teach parents and teachers i'd say parents and students
how to use social media effectively and correctly and i wrote to a lot of schools
i've done a few pilots here and there but i didn't really get picked up and
i think i I was just way ahead of my time.

(06:15):
But now, you know, I'm able to teach in colleges.
How did you get this? I mean, okay, I understand we're all coming with the times.
I think when Instagram came out, I probably started it five years after it came out.
I was one of those type of people. But you were probably on it before it was
even a thing in our country. So what was your sudden interest?
Were you one of these, what would you call them, you know, IT geek?

(06:38):
Geek or like do you know
what i wasn't i don't think i was even like i'm kind
of i'm a geek anyway i love i love footwear and trainers and fashion but what
it was for me i i used to learn about social media very very early and the power
of social media so when we look at what's happening now with data leaks and

(06:59):
mark zuckerberg going to and all this stuff stuff i knew this stuff in like 2008.
I knew that social media has a deep part kind of.
What a lot of people don't know is Bill Gates invested, I think it was $160
million in Facebook, before it was Facebook, which gave him like 1.6% of the company.

(07:20):
And this was in the early 2000s before it was kind of big.
When I kind of researched and learned that, I realized there's something deeper
than this. And how can a company be worth billions without no key asset?
So when I researched the key assets being us, the people, we are the assets
for all these social networks.
I built my own social network. and i learned the

(07:40):
kind of dynamics of it and the money involved
and all these different things and the data and then
i said okay we need to i need to kind of teach this and
let people know about it and stuff unfortunately my social
network got hacked fabson network very badly i
don't know who why but then because
of the popularity and success of that and i

(08:02):
really i had a twitter following to kind of push the word out
people called me up and asked me to either tweet at
their events or teach them and and kind of
invite me to do talks at like barclays facebook
edison young and then
it kind of went there so where were you getting the knowledge from was
it america was it how did you how were you having

(08:22):
for everyone over here i suppose yeah so what
i did i i was going i was going to a meetup
group in in the the late 2020 22
thousands called oh god
why is a lot of brain it was basically
a meet and stop group in um city road and what

(08:42):
we used to do there is it was just all about technology and
new technology and things like that so i'll go to that and i'll just literally
sit down and learn i i had no kind of main knowledge and i wasn't really going
but these guys were kind of geniuses in in it and it was just it was called
app junction sorry app junction I remember it now, sorry, App Junction.

(09:04):
And that was like in the early 2010s, early 2000s.
And all they would do is literally sit down and talk about apps,
new app technology and things like that.
And I would just learn. I would just sit down and learn. And they were kind
of talking about technology that was way ahead.
You know, I can kind of tell you something that would blow your mind.
So at one of these meetups, a gentleman was displaying a piece of technology.

(09:29):
And it was two lines of code. two lines of code so like a little two lines of
paragraph code and what he done he had like the back end of the app and he had
his code on the screen together,
and he what he done he copied his code paste it into the back end of this app
then he went on another screen open app what app then did is it will start to

(09:50):
record his face without him knowing and send it somewhere,
And this is, I mean, we're talking like 2009, 2010, when I saw this piece of technology.
And it was just a coding and it would just, it would send it,
it would record his face and send it to a cloud.
And he was saying, this is what apps are doing without us knowing.
When I saw that, I said, no, we're in trouble. People have to know and understand

(10:12):
the power of what these apps and social media is doing.
And we don't know the type of pressure points and stuff that they have in apps.
So I was learning so many different things like 10, 10 plus years ago about what's happening now.
Wow. Well, I can see why your account got closed down because they don't want people to know this.
They don't. I often think myself when people say, you know, oh,

(10:33):
I don't want to get TikTok on the phone because TikTok, you know,
it records your data and this.
And I'm thinking, well, I'm not working for the FBI. I have nothing to hide. You know, why not?
However, it is an invasion of privacy. And I do understand people don't want,
you know, I see people putting things now on. I don't know if you listen to my other podcast.
I had a guy from Forbes like Dean on two weeks ago and he invented a security

(10:56):
screen for phones and laptops and, you know, the computer. So you can't see in my thought.
Wow. I mean, if you know all this knowledge, it must freak you out thinking
people are just oblivious.
It does. But, you know, for me, I'm all about letting people understand and learn.
You know it's a bit like they're saying they want to kind of make tiktok for

(11:18):
over 16s and that's understandable because if you look at and i don't mean to
get too deep but if you look at,
warfare now warfare is happening in the digital
age for example tiktok in the far east is all
about building learning and like
mathematics and things like that so if you look at a tiktok feed in
the far east you don't see any jokes you don't you

(11:40):
see mainly learning karate you know
and psychological kind of advancement but if you look at tiktok in the western
world it's all about jokes and dancing and that is warfare in itself because
i'm not saying jokes and dancing are bad but it's like it dumbs down the community
if we're not constantly feeding people with with learning which they're doing in the far east you know.

(12:04):
It's it's you know so when it comes to kind of warfare let's be
honest a lot of our our children's children will just
be thinking about dancing and you know not feeling that good well that's
very true i've seen grown people my age
in their 30s doing dances in a supermarket
and i thought there's no way i'll ever get tiktok i was
probably on tiktok my nieces got me on it and i was probably on

(12:26):
it about a week and i was one of those 30
year olds dancing and addicted to do it it's it's
fun look i'm not against any fun i just
want us to understand and know what what we're doing i'm on
tiktok i need it for what i do i'll be following on
tiktok but i'm i'm very kind of aware that
every platform i always say that we

(12:48):
need to embrace these platforms learn about them don't
overtake us and that's kind of where my head's at do you
do on your tiktok actually what is your tiktok i'll
look at them it's king of training king of trainer king of trainer so are
are you educating people on it well to be fair
i'm posting up more more diary stuff like trainers and things like that i have
i have done a lot of podcasts so the podcasts on there kind of educate people

(13:13):
about different business journeys and things like so i'm trying to get that
going as much okay and how long does if somebody wants to be trained or have
you coach them how long does it last.
So I have different packages for people. So if people won't go in coaching,
it can last as long as they won.
But I do have different bite-sized things. You know, I always,

(13:36):
you know, say that for me to get paid for information, I'll give you a lot for free.
So at the starting point, I always tell people to look at my website,
which is franklinbuateng.com, B-O-A-T-E-N-G, and it's franklin, but L-O-Y.
And if they look at my website, they will see a book called how to get free
stuff from brands, how to get free stuff from brands.

(13:58):
And that's in the social media book of how to build your social media and it turned into a business.
And that's for free. That's absolutely for free. There's no, there's no links.
There's no hidden costs. They can go on their business for free.
And then when they want to advance, they can hit me up and then we can go and
I can kind of coach them on a further deep into how they can make money on social.

(14:22):
Amazing. Okay. I hope that there. and i've written a turn as well
so just the ted talks you can
find that on youtube yes yeah you
can find on youtube i've done a ted tedx talk 10 years
ago and it's coming up to 10 years in i think november
this year and yeah it
was you know i was way ahead talking about you know how we save our children

(14:47):
from you know bullying online bullying i'm thinking you could be in suicide
respect for the bad things they hear online and really trying to get them to
understand not to take things too deep on social media because nothing's ever that bad.
So I was really trying to kind of protect our children you know,
the youth and probably 10 years ahead.

(15:08):
I'll share it on my platform as well. I'll have a look at it and I'll share it on social.
No problem at all. So tell us, what does the future hold for Franklin?
You're working on ABRIC. Tell us a bit about that.
You've got avarex avarex so avarex jackets so avarex jackets
is the jackets that top gun wore in
that tom cruise wore in top gun his latest.

(15:30):
Film maverick top gun 2 so all the leather jackets and
stuff so i found the
company in the uk and we're doing like
an avarex jacket tour avarex archives tour
around the uk we're hitting all the
major cities london birmingham manchester store people
have told me to come over to ireland so hopefully i might yeah and uh

(15:50):
yeah and uh yeah you know it's
a beautiful brand uh it's been a heritage brand for myself one
of my favorite brands they make some beautiful leather jackets that's
a great you know so you'll be
you'll be seeing that on my social media coming to
a city near you soon no that's brilliant and yeah
i'll send you a few contacts if you wanted to go to ireland i

(16:12):
think they would welcome you there with open arms they love
anything like this that's brilliant i'm very impressed
with that and it's so nice that you've shared that all with us today
because i think we all needed to hear that we're all
using social media and i don't think we're using it properly or
understand the fundamentals but that's brilliant
so franklin if anybody wants to get in contact with you

(16:33):
is it best to use your instagram or your website yeah
i mean my instagram i'm always checking my dms i'll get loads of dms but i try
my best to get back to everyone and yeah so my instagram is at king of trainers
or at franklin f-r-a-n-k-l-i-n what's saying b-o-a-c-e-n-g.

(16:53):
Dot you know or my website is franklinboy.com or
you can google me you'll find me on google so if you google me you'll find so
many things about me and you can reach out i'm always to welcome you that's
brilliant okay thank you so much i hope you have a lovely day and um i hope
