Let the Bible Speak UP

Let the Bible Speak UP

Let the Bible Speak is a ministry of the church of Christ in Michigan‘s Upper Peninsula. Here at LTBS, we believe that biblical illiteracy is one of the biggest challenges in modern society. Therefore, our primary goal at LTBS is simple: bring the Bible to as many people as possible. We believe Scripture has the ability to change lives, to change people‘s eternal fate, and may be the cultural catalyst we need to begin transforming our society into once that models God‘s image and values. Most of all, we want people, through God‘s Word, to discover Jesus, the source of salvation, whose love and sacrifice drives the church today. God has blessed us with the privilege to pursue this mission for 49 years on WLUC-TV6, and recently on FOX UP. Now, we‘re working to expand our reach through this podcast. Alex Meredith, the host of the LTBS, is the preaching minister at the Marquette Church of Christ in Marquette, MI. Alex has been in ministry for five years and has a BA Bible & Preaching degree from Harding University. Brian Poe is cohost for the program and preaches at the Escanaba Church of Christ. He also serves as chaplain at OSF Healthcare in Escanaba. Brian holds an MDiv from Heritage Christian University.

Paul saw it his mission to “make the word of God fully known.” This word is referred to as a “mystery hidden for the ages,” but it is hidden no longer. The simple message of Jesus on the cross is a public declaration of God’s broader plan to redeem the created world. That is good news for you and me!

Aliens are real! No, not that kind—not that kind either. When people sin, they are alienated from God. What Christ shows us, however, is that unification between God and the flesh is possible! As early as the Council of Nicaea, Christians were debating whether or to what extend Jesus was human. As it turns out, Jesus’ humanity is not only real but critical to New Testament theology!

The Ancient Greeks believed that divinity would not dare be muddied by donning human flesh, which they believed to be innately impure. This perspective runs in the face of one of the most important moments in Christian history, the Incarnation. Paul writes to the church in Colossae, wrestling with serious questions about God.

In this second week through the book of Colossians, we are all forced to reflect. Are you “bearing fruit” and bearing the name of Christ in such a way that your reputation honors Christ within your community? The Colossians were well known for their love and faith, but they were the exception not the norm. What about you?

In the final installment to our Bible origins series, we discuss the last and arguably most impactful step of the transmission process, interpretation. There are many poor methods of interpretation, but Christians, being called to worship God with our minds also, should apply a critical process to this endeavor, presented right here on LTBS.

Even after years of studying the Bible, there are still some things I don’t understand, in the Bible and otherwise. God does indeed work in mysterious ways, but that doesn’t mean our faith is blind either!

While many Christians treat prayer simply as a tool to petition God, the Bible shows us it is much more than that. It is a vehicle for divine praise!

There’s a stigma within Christianity that God does not want or can not handle our negative emotions. This simply isn’t true. The Bible leaves room and provides language for grief, and this is especially true through prayer.

Prayer never occurs in a vacuum, but rather in the context of the relationship that exists between God and the one praying. God is not a vending machine. Personal prayer is the product of your knowledge of and experience with God, and that matters.
